It is clearly evident, and Tom hinted at it as well, this title was lead designed for PS4. One would expect it to perform acceptably on a game designed around the hardware, afterall the PS4 does enjoy 40% more compute performance over base Xbox One and it shows here.
Although they were released in the same year the Xbox One really shows its age more than the PS4 in the most recent games (from 2018 to now), even running the game in a lower resolution than the PS4 and still has more problems in maintaining a good framerate.
"Uncompromised, true 4K". The devs took that quote to heart and always traded performance for resolution on One X. It's why a few people I know picked the Pro in 2017. A resolution tradeoff is a lot more welcome than a performance penalty.
It's really sad that a studio as large as Infinity Ward is so trash at optimizing for all the platforms. It's extremely clear they are capable of doing it, just sad they don't take make the effort.
It doesn't looks or run the best, but man, the One, a 9 year old machine that was already underpowered on launch, still running this, is incredible. I loved that console. Loving the Series as well!
Nah. Last gen it was the same. Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3. All we're cross-gen. Only the 4th entry finally broke the shackles. And while Advanced Warfare was the one that first looked "next-gen", I'd say WW2 was the one that was the true generational jump.
i know they talk about how "unacceptable" the ones can be sometimes reaching 30fps, id still rather have that than no game at all. i hope them saying stuff like this doesn't make the devs think ah well why try. cause people like me still use the older consoles and cant just go out and buy a better one. honestly i think 90% of people don't care that much about fps unless its particularly egregious like below 20 fps

IW really should provide a toggle to switch between the performance mode and resolution mode on Xbox One X. This machine is absolutely capable to run CoD at a solid 60 fps on 1440p.
Xbox One S is completely acceptable. I am very impressed with the results given the age and power of the hardware. A 720p 30 FPS experience hypothetically is well and playable. And it's averaging more than that! Props that this old hardware that is still being pushed to it's absolute limits.

well the reason xbox one x/microsoft is to blame as well is because it's marketed as a 4k console and probably a stipulation implemented by ms to the developers, that's why u keep seeing it even go for higher res compared to the series s, when occasion it could have clearly benefited of running the same res for better performance and such

That 4K baton has been handed on to the current gen consoles.
Sadly if One X had the basic options every PC has of being able to adjust resolution to 1440p, we'd have a locked 60fps. Really baffling they chose full 4k as the target to dynamically scale on one x. I don't think anyone would have an issue targeting 1800p or less as the target resolution and dynamically dropping from there. Given how well optimized even base ps4 performs, one x really just is not acceptable. Seems like a total waste and overreach to go for 4k
Man, looks like we are reaching Black ops 3 xbox 360 levels of frame rates at this point for the xbox one. I sure hope this is the last cod game on last gen consoles, because oh boy then we definetly reach Black Ops 3 levels of bad for the rest of the package if they did.
I think a lot of it has to do with developer priorities. Nobody remembers much about Advanced Warfare, but it was one of the best looking, best performing CoDs to come out on 360/PS3. Nonetheless, it was followed by one of the worst looking, worst running ports for those systems…
Most prioritizes the Ps4 family of systems now a days. I mean Resident Evil 4 isn’t even releasing on xbox one/x. Can they get it to run on it? yea maybe but that’s resources on a console that didn’t do as good as the ps4 in terms of sales and is weaker to develop for. The xbox one/x can definetly push out good looking games still but it just comes down to what the developers want and we’re reaching that point where their starting to leave it behind.
I don't get why they mess up the Xbox ports every time? Seem odd to be honest. I don't even think it would be enough for the One X to simply target the same settings as PS4 Pro, when you look at the different drops. Seems more optimized for the PlayStation development platform.

It's a shame they don't sell the campaign they worked so hard on separate. They did all that work just for some fans not to engage as I am not paying for multiplayer I will never use.
I'm not sure if combining single player with multiplayer into one package is done to avoid legal trouble. If you get banned from an online game and try to sue for removing your right to use a license you paid for, they could easily say, "You only paid for the single player campaign. The multiplayer portion is included as a free add-on."

These older consoles are doing alright considering the age of them, what gets me is everyone talking about "true next gen", look at pc where we have alot more then just 6 different hardwares to work with where the game scales based on settings(custom/low/ultra) which does not hurt the title in question, just the way it looks to the user. So I don't see how the older hardware is holding a game back for current gen hardware which would just get better settings to look better and (would hope)play better(optimization).
Activision notoriously optimizes their games better for PlayStation probably somewhere in a contract too, Xbox One X always performs worse even though it's more powerful
It's really awkward that the PS4 Pro version is smoother because the Xbox One X version has to target full 4K for no apparent reason. That's nearly twice the pixel count of PS4 Pro. Of course this would lead to performance issues. It's literally as simple as setting a new maximum resolution. A small hotfix could do the job. I’m genuinely impressed with how well Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 run and look on the PS4 Pro. It’s literally photorealistic and it shows that optimization is key. The fact that it runs at a solid 60fps at over 1440p on a last gen console is insane
Since the new update, MW2 2022 on PS4 Slim has very strange shadows. They look like grainy black dots. Other than that, the game handles amazingly. First few days were full of glitches and still have an issue saving Campaign progress but it still amazes me how well the graphics and gameplay handle on PS4.
Old comment but you ever experience the glitch in the campaign where if your game crashed mid mission, everytime you tried to resume mission it would just crash while loading and the only way to fix it was to restart the whole mission?
i dont understood why the one x would rise to 4k, because the pro has 1536, maybe 1800p could better for the one x
We usually see a cut to resolution and wobbly framerates on Xbox One S in comparison to PS4, but it looks like IW really skewed their resources towards Sony on this one. I mean that ship sequence running at ~60% of the average framerate on PS4, despite the drop in resolution, is astonishing.
Yeah you could make the argument that one s is weaker than ps4 but when you look at one X performance you clearly see xbox optimization is much less than ps4 consoles . So Microsoft bought them to do their job equally well .
@@50H3i1 If they drop target resolution on One X to 1800p it should be a significant improvement to performance. at 11:08 "we see again xbox one x makes the same mistakes" I think the developers optimize the game, not the console, so they make the same "mistake".
well the reason xbox one x/microsoft is to blame as well is because it's marketed as a 4k console and probably a stipulation implemented by ms to the developers, that's why u keep seeing it even go for higher res compared to the series s, when occasion it could have clearly benefited of running the same res for better performance and such
Given the price of "current" gen I know they had to release this on previous gen but it is actually quite surprising that they manage to optimize it this well

PS3-PS4: Last gen running on lower than PC's lowest preset, trouble even reaching 30fps
PS2-PS3: Basically different games by different teams
I'm surprised that One X is dipping under 60fps since it's the most powerful of the last gen consoles. They need to lower the resolution.
U expect them to optimize for the console that sold the lest of the 4 consoles by a lot really why would they !

@KML III Yep, more like 1620p, while set the Pro at 1440p. You'd find any stability issues would just vanish. For some reason, Dev's still try to push the old mid-gen consoles far beyond their capabilities. There's no need, the days of them pushing out 4K are now long gone. That 4K baton has been handed on to the current gen consoles.

So... Pro should have been 1440p and Series X should have been 1536p

These older consoles are doing alright considering the age of them, what gets me is everyone talking about "true next gen", look at pc where we have alot more then just 6 different hardwares to work with where the game scales based on settings(custom/low/ultra) which does not hurt the title in question, just the way it looks to the user.
