Why do these devs still target 4k for the One X..thats way too ambitious. Giving it the same resolution target for PS4 Pro is the reasonable thing and would even perform better than the PS4 Pro
Because the gpu of the one x is more powerful than the pro's but the cpu is clocked lower. Therefore, the one x can handle higher resolutions and even if the resolution were to be 480p, the fps would still be pretty much the same. The Xbox One X doesn't support M.2 drives, so either you're using a USB adapter or you're using the wrong term for a SATA SSD. If you're using an adapter, you wasted your money dedicating an M.2 drive to a console that's capped at 5gbps externally and 6gbps internally, and if it's an internal SSD, it might help a bit, but not as much as you think given that the console is already CPU bottlenecked and it takes CPU power to stream those assets faster. I'm sure it helps a little, but past the first minute or so once everything is loaded, it's doing next to nothing for you. USB 3.0 is capped at 5gbps and SATA at 6gbps, while M.2 can be several times faster, but if going through an adapter, would be less than those 5 or 6 gbps speeds due to how adapters work.

Was about to comment this. My guess is Alex is doing a very extensive breakdown of the Ray-Tracing and all its woes. There are so many problems on PC, it's taking DF longer than expected.
It's not about hardware between Playstation and Xbox, it's about people behind that hardware. When I saw how God of War Ragnarok looks on a 65" 4k tv on a base PS4 and how it runs, it just proves that last gen console is powerful enough to give a satisfying experience when you have people behind the that hardware and project to optimize it properly. Warzone 2.0 is probably the same story. Sony has more "heart" when it comes to gaming, compared to Microsoft.
Don't understand the obsession on One X to make it 4K. They should of lowered the resolution to make it locked 60fps. 1440p/60 would of been a perfect balance.
A famous man once said 'Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should'. I think this applies to last gen
How do you have matching footage for the different consoles? Since warzone is only 4 players max how would you get all 4 consoles to spectate a 5th identical person? Since you can only spectate the person that killed you, did you somehow have all 4 consoles die from the same player?
Hopefully not waiting for CDPR to fix it so he can act like CDPR didn’t just BOTCH THE CRAP out of their Witcher 3 next gen update. But in truth I don’t think that’s what is happening, I’m sure Alex is doing extensive testing and will go very hard on CDPR coz honestly the PC version is a monstrosity, if he doesn’t go super hard on them that would be wrong, you can’t drag Gotham Knights through the mud then act like W3 update is not just as bad if not worse😬
@George that's all I'm waiting to see because I'm on a 4090 and it hasn't been a smooth experience at all so I'm hoping they call CDPR/Nvidia out on crapping this one out. I'm still excited to see what Alex produces but with how this has been going I feel he won't be giving it the love he gave Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.
Mostly what I expected from this. Very good job syncing everything up so well. You guys should do a GTAV video on the new Ray Tracing added to the game the other day. It's actually quite impressive to me and I've been playing quality mode on for Ps5 since it was added. I'd like to see how well I'm able to tell the framerate staying stable while in the new quality mode with Ray-Tracing on. It still feels so much better than the Ps4 Pro version did I played for so long even in the new Ray Tracing Quality mode. Before the Ray Tracing was added the other day it wasn't worth it to me to not play in Performance RT mode. Now that full Ray-Tracing looks and runs stable to me I can't go back with how much better the game really looks.
Absolutely. The reflections even don't lower the resolution or harm the performance. That's how it's done. When I'm looking at CDPR, that's another story..yeah, I know RTGI is extremely demanding in this game etc. but the framerate is horrible and the image-quality blurry af
I dont understand why devs are going for 4K on 1X, when a lower res would give more stable gameplay. Drop down to PS4Pro res and it would be way better...
I’d be extremely interested in seeing how the texture streaming performs on the older machines with internal SSD replacements over the mechanical hard drives. I’m surprised DF never tests the performance of the PS4 and Xbox One with a good internal SSD replacement. I got significant performance gains in many games on my original PS4 and PS4 Pro after installing a really fast Samsung SSD for the internal hard drive. It also made the OS 100% perfectly responsive and crisp, even on the older PS4. It should be it’s own platform for testing to be honest lol.
Same here on my Xbox One X with texture streaming set to high, the game looks really good on campaign and multi-player and I have no late textures filling in doors, walls and floors and the game looks good, upgrading the HDD to a SSD was well worth it given plan on keeping mine till the next enhanced consoles come out.
@@MrInuhanyou123 Yeah it’s already a LOT for them to test, but in situations like this one it would’ve been worth tossing it into the mix to show that there actually is a middle ground on this game if you have an SSD in any of the last gen consoles.
I feel like at this point it has to be on Microsoft. I've seen so many games do the same thing where they push 4k over performance. And it was marketed as native 4k machine. It has to be because I also don't understand why devs wouldn't make that sacrifice for performance
its not make any diffrence on one s ı tested but on pc intel xe quality or pefromance thing make diffrence .infact the one s look like those intel xe on pc.
I have an idea. Why not compare the ps4 pro/ xbox one x to current gen consoles, but give the last gen consoles a ssd upgrade. Im curious how it would fair with load times and texture streaming and pop in.
Even with SSD, they're restricted by the SATA bus, and the fact that they borrow CPU resources for storage decompression/streaming, while the Series and PS5 have dedicated IO co-processors for hardware-accelerated decompression. Having said that, last-gen can capitalize on the raw physical spec speed of an installed SSD. To speed up loading and 'massage' some asset/LoD streaming that may stumble on the default spinning plate HDD. It can't produce miracles, however, given the last-gen console inherently bottlenecks any recent SSD's best case performance due to lacking dedicated IO hardware.
@@griffgames9538 True, nevertheless, a ssd will maximize the ps4 pro and x box x performance. That's why Im interested in the upgrade, and results it will show.
@@damoncattleman5504 I have a PS4 Pro w/ internal 1 tb Samsung 860 Evo SSD upgrade. Honestly it's no slouch in overall performance on any PS4 Pro enhanced games(ALOT) and a massive upgrade from a stock ps4. Games are generally 1440- to up to up to1800p resolution; and 4k resolution output. It varies depending on game though. The loading speed is definitely (on average) 2x as fast as a stock PS4 HDD. Games load up fast enough for sure; not an annoyance like stock PS4 HDD. At this point I would just wait to get the new upcoming PS5 model with detachable disc drive. That comes out in an estimated 6-9 months. Unless you already own a Pro and plan on swapping an SSD into it, then I would wait to get new PS5 model. I bought my Pro w/SSD 1.5 yrs ago, I sold my PS4 to decrease the cost of that purchase. I plan on keeping my Pro even after buying the upcoming PS5 model with detachable disc drive.
@@damoncattleman5504 A PS4 Pro W/SSD is 40% faster loading speeds than a Pro HDD; Pro HDD is only 10% faster loading than a stock PS4 HDD. I own ALOT of game consoles, and sold some of them too. As a good example --Even the recent open world game Elden Ring loads up very quickly on a Pro w/SSD. Honestly, I wouldn't care to buy a PS5 EVER if PS4 games support/release was continued. But, PS4 game release will eventually end.
I wish you guys dived deeper into the different combinations of texture streaming settings and how those affect performance both initially and after playing a couple games. When I played my first game on ps4 pro, it was full of unloaded textures and performance tanked to absolutely unacceptable framerates. This game is not an "install, boot and compare" kinda thing.
You’re not getting that. They have already cut it back as much as they can. It’s currently cpu and storage limited because of the world. The only thing they can do is cap to 30fps and increase resolution a bit.
I agree with you on this one 720P 60 on base PS4 And Xbox One and 1080-1440/60P on the enhanced consoles. I think it's messed up that developers have not been adding the 1080P/60 mode on the enhanced consoles anymore besides Halo Infinite.
I suppose it's nice for those running on last generation. I'm really shocked it drops to lower than vita's native screen resolution on ps4 and even worse on xbox one though. A possible cap to 30 might have done well for those who would like a higher screen resolution when it's hitting that low. I know it might not be everyone cup of tea, but the choice might be appreciated for some.
If they capped frame rate to 30 then nobody would buy the game, competitive fps games that cap at 30fps tend to die off pretty quick because it's not ideal
you only see that below 720p resolations on starting loading assets and some intense moments. its not that bad. you see those on video more bcosue they try t ocapture it.
Am I the only one who thinks warzone looks outdated? It doesnt look terrible but if you would have told me that a game from 2016 I would believe it. Everything just looks really flat. A game like battlefield 1 from 2016 still looks graphically better. They really gotta do something with this engine.
Pretty amazing that devs are still working on the base Xbox One. Even at the beginning of its life it struggled to maintain 1080p on pretty much every game. Crazy that almost 10 years later it’s still going.
its not 10 years out ont 2014 its 8 year.the xbox 360 out 2005 it end 2013. techolgy changed on 2011 era directx 9 directx 11 games. now directx 11 to 12 games not a change only updgrade some effects like ray tracing. loading times a joke. nintendo 64 was using cartridge against next gen cd and dvd it was faster but people buy ps1 ps2 still. loading times not make you next gen. if you compare base ps4 only 20 third pary aaa games 1080p on base ps4 like rdr2 elden ring mgs5 etc against one..the 60 fps and 1080p games mgs 5 cods and mortal kombats. thats it. around 20 aaa games both console 1080 p 60 fps. and around 30 aaa games like dooms bethesda games etc both 1080p 30fps . and rest both console 900p for many games. there is bunch of xbox one games get 1080p after df reviews. like witcher 3 batman arkam knight. basicly its not so diffrent each other. those 1080p games also not always 1080p mostly both consoles. if you compare exlusive titles on ps4 grantrisomos 1080p 60 fps on xbox one forza 567. ps4 exlusive cinematic games on base ps4 30 fps. on xbox one halos gears of wars 60 fps and bcouse of more forza games xbox one actualy have more 1080p 60fps games on exlusive. only forza horizons 30fps.
the xbox one was very weak already but this game could have been a little bit better since it is more optimisized for ps consoles all of them perform better than the xbox counterparts
easy make shadows quality lowest one s run way better. infact game looks same low and lowest texture qulity and ı think one s is texture quality not lowest its low. if you make those lowest not low it can run better than base ps4 and look same.
I'm very happy with the performance on the ps5! It plays wonderful. My friends on ps4 are not very happy. They prefer wz1 because of the performance issues from WZ2.
I guess it's getting pretty clear developers need to make a clean break between Xbox One (X) and Series S/X. The Xbox One is still a great console, but we need to keep our expectations down in regard to what kind of graphics to expect from it. It doesn't mean games can't look great, such as Yooka-Laylee, but highly realistic games are not viable.
Great review as usual from Tom, which is a CoD and BF _connoisseur_ at this point. But One X being slower than PS4 Pro is inexcusable, it's clear only PS4 Amateur and Pro versions were optimized.
If I were a base Xbox One owner I'd be BEGGING Infinity Ward to dramatically reduces graphical settings on it even to mw3 last gen quality if it meant any extra pixels or frames at all. Very sad state of affairs there, tho still mightily impressive on other systems
It's already at dramatically reduced settings with the resolution dropping very low. Not much more that can be done other than the option of a 30FPS cap for consistency.
Well the console is nearly TEN years old, millions of the poor thing is old and tired at this point not only being simply inadequate CPU wise even for 2014 standards, but also probably begging to be serviced. Not to mention how slow it is to boot up, or load games and assets off that slow laptop spinning HDD.
I see what you guys are saying, for sure, that doesn't negate the slight CPU clock advantage toward the Xbox One. (1.6 ghz PS4 & around 1.8ghz for Xbox One.) In the Hitman reboot you can see the CPU advantage in play giving the Xbox higher fps. So if they brutally compromised and retooled the visuals. I see it easily hitting PS4 frame rates. They won't and it should be retired. Better yet shouldn't have been released. Doesn't change the fact that they did release it & clearly went for feature parity for some reason instead of compromising sharply for memory bandwidth/GPU deficiency. So I agree pretty much with everything being said, so if I only used Xbone and couldn't upgrade. I'd be cool with Blops 3 on PS360 visuals if they could hit higher fps. Or as someone said, LOCK IT TOOOOO 30FPS
@@SHGames97 Where did you see this? Hitman drops frames harder and more often on xbox one, and uses more cpu for its front end than ps4. DF coverage showed this... If youre gonna lie, make sure the evidence isnt 1 search away
great coverage. While i understand the sentiment of wanting them to move on from previous gen, I find myself feeling for those who can't fully enjoy their consoles anymore bc of the performance on new games. I had to sell my PS5 for financial reasons for about 9 months and had to play all my games on base PS4. It was fine, but I was privileged enough to know it was temporary. I feel as though this performance is an injustice to fans. Maybe this SHOULD be the last COD to support last gen, but it should support it well regardless.
As always the Xbox One X is pushed for resolution vs a true 60fps mode. All they had to do was match the resolution to the PS4 Pro and it would lock more consistently the 60 fps even above the former system since it’s CPU is faster along with extra/faster ram and that monster GPU.
It's ironic you used the term "True 60fps" -- considering the Xbox One X was launched trumpeting the "True 4K" slogan. The One X launched a full year after PS4 Pro and cost $100 more than the Pro, but you received a better spec on paper for that 100 buck premium. Sadly, both the Pro and One X were stuck with the ancient Jaguar CPU, as AMD had no new APU to offer MS and Sony for the mid-gens in 2016-17. So the Pro and One X are just turbocharged versions of the same 2012-era laptop chipset. The One X is far better equipped to produce 'True' 4K (2160p) frame buffers than the Pro, while the Pro has specialized reconstruction hardware to hit 4K output. The rub off, unfortunately, is that too many One X versions attempted higher than recommended resolutions, which compromised frame-rate. Still hamstrung by the frail Jaguar cores.
@@griffgames9538 It’s up to devs as to what resolution they seek along with the the performance they want. If Call of Duty is supposed to be about 60fps simply bumping the resolution down to PS4 Pro level as I stated would put it above it in performance metric since the more capable hardware would be better suited at stick to said fps. I suspect Sony’s deal with Activision with it being the lead platform is the reason. Xbox One X Jaguar CPU run at 2.3 GHz while the Pro run at 2.1 GHz. The PS4 Pro does nothing in terms of reconstruction that Xbox can’t and Call of Duty uses a great reconstruction or up sampler of their own. At the very least there should have been a resolution and fps mode on Xbox One X but anyone with a freesync or VRR TV or monitor will fare better.
@@ZeitGeist_TV It's the One X vastly superior game-available VRAM + superior bus bandwidth and GPU spec that leads to higher resolution aspirations compared to the Pro, but unfortunately the frail Jaguar CPU cores in the One X, regardless of minor clockspeed boost, can't hold up their side of the spec balance.
@@griffgames9538 Correct which is why I don't like the arbitrary need to push for higher resolution over performance when there is no offering of performance mode. My hope is that the Activision deal goes through and we get a dual mode feature implemented for both the Pro and One X.
The maximum resolution targets seem ludicriously ambitious - dynamic resolution is a useful tool but should be picking up the slack, not permanently leaned upon. Taking the One X for example, surely a 2560x1440 with a 60fps target and 10-20% dynamic resolution would be infinitely preferable? If performance still won't comply to a 16.6ms frame time with dynamic res they need to be reduced.
I don't understand the push of 4K resolution on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X for current games when their hardware are old now. Also those last gen console only support 4K 30Hz through HDMI and they don't support outputing 1440p, only either 4K or 1080p
its clear that this game favors ps consoles rather than the xbox counterparts the xbox one x shoud be performing the same or better at dynamic 4k compared to the 1512p ps4 pro since most games like rdr2 show the xbox at 4k and the ps4 pro checkerboard or 1440p and the xbox always performs better
If this was the S in this video then it's either going to be the same or worse. Probably best avoided unless you have a really high tolerance for unfair deaths.
The GPU in the One S is clocked higher to 914MHz, up from 853MHz, which bumps the overall power to 1.4Tflops from 1.31Tflops. It also has faster ESRAM Bandwidth 219GB/s from 204GB/s. It doesn't make a very noticeable difference overall but maybe a few frames here or there.
Would have been nice to have seen a FOV comparison on the PS5 + Xbox Series video too. Also I think you should have compared the resolution in addition to the FPS when switching between 80 and 120 FOV.
My main concern is they should give the person the ability to adjust settings as they want instead of a one size fits all! That’s what closes the gap between pc and consoles! Consoles are powerful enough to set fps or resolution to however you want it! My personal example is fps isn’t everything, a higher fov vs 60fps I will probably beat the other guy trying to shoot me first lol!

Right, there is no "next gen" as long as we are dragging "last gen" around, kicking and screaming.
The Battlefield games on PS3 and 360 were far worse in that aspect.

How do you have matching footage for the different consoles? Since warzone is only 4 players max how would you get all 4 consoles to spectate a 5th identical person? Since you can only spectate the person that killed you, did you somehow have all 4 consoles die from the same player?
Day 3 of no Witcher 3. Alex Wyd.

Are you guys doing witcher 3 enhanced optimized settings for pc?
I believe Alex said on Twitter that he will be.
@@SOTVT I thought the experience is great on ps5/xsx, unlike on PC. lol.

Because they have tons of other things to test and going over 7 platforms alone is hard enough
@@MrInuhanyou123 Yeah it’s already a LOT for them to test, but in situations like this one it would’ve been worth tossing it into the mix to show that there actually is a middle ground on this game if you have an SSD in any of the last gen consoles.
Why don't they just make the one x the best last gen version by making it a locked 1440p 60fps locked
It's so dumb to push the one x to 4k when it can not reach 60 FPS....
it's because they hate xbox
I feel like at this point it has to be on Microsoft. I've seen so many games do the same thing where they push 4k over performance. And it was marketed as native 4k machine. It has to be because I also don't understand why devs wouldn't make that sacrifice for performance

@@GBDogg504 Nice, bro, Im interested on how it would stack against a HDD ps4 pro in terms off loads times, texture streaming and pop in.
@@damoncattleman5504 A PS4 Pro W/SSD is 40% faster loading speeds than a Pro HDD; Pro HDD is only 10% faster loading than a stock PS4 HDD. I own ALOT of game consoles, and sold some of them too.
Looks the same to me . When we was kids and play kids games, we was lucky if it run the game. It didn't matter the graphics.
WITCHER 3 NEXT-GEN?
Great review as usual from Tom, which is a CoD and BF _connoisseur_ at this point. But One X being slower than PS4 Pro is inexcusable, it's clear only PS4 Amateur and Pro versions were optimized.
Xbox One X looks great even with a few framedrops. What people forget the One X is pushing 4k and the others are Much lower resolution.
I agree, an optimized settings for Warzone would be great
i would say they are lucky the base consoles are supported at all. ps3 and 360 didnt see this kind of after life support
If I were a base Xbox One owner I'd be BEGGING Infinity Ward to dramatically reduces graphical settings on it even to mw3 last gen quality if it meant any extra pixels or frames at all. Very sad state of affairs there, tho still mightily impressive on other systems
It's not gonna do it, dipping to 450p resolution and still drops into the 30s haha. It's long overdue to retire that system forever.
(1.6 ghz PS4 & around 1.8ghz for Xbox One.)
In the Hitman reboot you can see the CPU advantage in play giving the Xbox higher fps.
DF coverage showed this...

great coverage.
So the ps4 pro's locked vertical resolution is higher than the ps5's minimum vertical resolution?
Cod lost its way after 2012 but wow everything since 19 has been a new level of low
The option to turn off vsync should be given for such variable frame rate.
Hey DF, will you review Witcher 3 Next Gen on PC? It’s really bad performance even on 4090….
The texture pop in and audio dropouts on the xbone reminds me of bf4 on xbox 360.

That’s good news for COD coming back to a Nintendo console, they are practicing the optimization on Xbox first lol
@@spenny2cents they may as well just port cod mobile onto the switch as that's the only one I could see it being able to run.
@G P Options like 1620p and 1800p can reconstruct to 4K output in a very pleasing way, if the temporal solution is adequate.

I wonder what the framerate on the pro is like when set to 1080p
@@superqaxclub What are you talking about both PS4 Pro and X1X support 4K 60Hz and X1X fully supports 1440p at up to 120Hz as well

If this was the S in this video then it's either going to be the same or worse. Probably best avoided unless you have a really high tolerance for unfair deaths.
There baisically the same won’t really notice any meaningful difference.
