@@zxcvb7653in the US on major airlines it's fine as a carryon. Never had an issue. Budget airlines and overseas you will need to check it. When I backpacked through Europe with it, I bought an osprey airporter to put it in and protect it. The airporter bag fit secured perfectly inside the compression straps so it doesn't take space inside the bag if you need it
