  • Many of you have asked me in the comments about where is a BETTER &/OR SAFER place to purchase watches in the grey market
In this video, I give my opinion having born & grown up in Singapore and recently lived in Hong Kong for 2 years.

Hi there thank you for watching!! Watch exchange is a seller that I am familiar with… so far, I have also heard decent feedback on them (none of my videos are sponsored by them for open disclosure)
I would implore you to do your own research & due diligence on other shops as well. There could be better shops that I don’t know about

I am recently returned back home to Singapore and have lived in Hong Kong for more than 15 years. Are the watches in HK really more expensive compared to Singapore? Do the grey market dealer in Singapore charged GST?

GST of 3.5% is payable by the dealer in SG & it’s bundled into the sticker price. Price wise HK without GST should be cheaper but where grey is concern, it can go either way

Do you live in either 🇸🇬 or 🇭🇰? Have you RECENTLY compared the grey markets from both cities? Let us know your views below!!

Showcase prices are not accurate. It's just a reference. Really need to go in to the stores.

nowadays the clones are really getting better and better esp submariners since they are the sought after model.

Yes that’s true, and it will only get better (worse for us) as technology improves over time… good to buy with a peace of mind always

    I have to disagree .
    1. U should buy from one that you trust and longstanding (hopefully). At the end of the day, there is no 100 % to prove authenticity given that it doesn’t make sense for dealer to dismantle the movement completely to check. At the end of the day, buyer could also challenge the business for a refund if it is found to be a fake .
    2. There is no such thing as it is better to buy in Singapore . HK has laws too. Singapore also takes stock from hk at times . At the end of the day, u can only rely on the credibility of the dealer mentioned in point 1 and probably for a person who stays in that particular country to buy in that country so that when legal dispute happens, it is much easier to follow up.
    3. Not sure why my experience is completely different from urs . Unless everything changes in the last 2 months. Everything I ask for is at least 5 % cheaper in hk . I can make a call to my trusted dealer and it’s cheaper than anyone in far east plaza. Don’t forget, it’s cheaper to buy rolex in hk as there is no gst .

Thank you for the long reply; much appreciated!!
On the final point where HK is 5% cheaper.. that is more recent in the past 6-9months or so, due to the strength in the SGD.. for watches in SG, the GST is baked into the price for the most part.
To give your sources the benefit of doubt, perhaps I have missed out a dealer (or dealers) that offer the utmost competitive pricing. For the ones that I frequent, I found the HK stores to be a tad more expensive, when the SGDHKD exchange rate is in the 5.6-5.7 range.
On the point where HK is less safe, it’s mainly for folks who are casual watch buyers, and don’t necessarily scrutinise watches to a high degree AND due to the fact that they have a super-clone factory a few miles away. A moot point for buyers who really know the in’s and outs of watches. It’s purely a proximity risk more than anything
