- Today, we're taking a deep dive into the gothic and doom metal scene, exploring its role in the gothic subculture.
Gothic and doom metal are subgenres that blend heavy, gloomy sounds with dark, atmospheric elements. These genres often feature themes of despair, sorrow, and existential reflection, making them a perfect fit for the gothic subculture. This subculture celebrates the beauty in darkness, and gothic and doom metal provide the soundtrack for this aesthetic.

This is a high class and great list. I think she forgot about The Sins of thy Beloved, if not i heavely recomend. Awesome vídeo and the german guys keep falleng at her, even now.
I did forgot, yap, thank you)) But those "guys that keep falleng at me" were Americans I'm pretty sure😉No matter what topic, what bands etc I'm planning on making a video about, there will always be people who won't agree with me. It's the most normal thing. Thank you for watching🖤
Like it, very decent list. I would add CELTIC FROST here for historical reasons. Their 3rd album "Into The Pandemonium" from 1987 is definitely the first ever, fully conscious mix of metal with gothic/darkwave music. It directly spawned bands like Paradise Lost, Anathema, Type O Negative, Moonspell etc. and then countless of others on that evolution path.
From more goth side of things (goth bands who became more metallic over time, like Lacrimosa) I would add CHRISTIAN DEATH, FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, CREAMING JESUS, 45 GRAVE, STILLBORN (Sweden), BALAAM AND THE ANGEL, LOVE LIKE BLOOD, THE GARDEN OF DELIGHT, DREADFUL SHADOWS, SEIGMEN etc.
@paravan2000 Absolutely, but It worth a 1hour long video, and although I said that it's a deep dive at the beginning, the video calls "a quick guide"😉 Maybe some day I'll make one decent long video, but for a start I think it's enough. Thank you for watching 🖤
Lacrimas Profundere forever.
I have been listening to goth music since 1986 and metal has never been a part of it. There is nothing wrong with metal music but it is not under the goth umbrella, metal is its own thing. This is the truth of it. I see you lashing out at others telling you the same thing. You are hurt because you are finding out that your self identification as a goth is coming into question. Maybe do some soul searching before you lash out at others trying to help you.
Well, I've been listening to gothic music since 2008 and came to this subculture gradually through gothic metal. I'm quite aware of what exactly is gothic and what is not, so I don't need the so-called help from pseudo-experts trying to prove that they are something more than they actually are. Over the years, I've been to various gothic parties and festivals in different countries. If we place a subculture in the context of different cultures, we get its different shades. Metal (namely gothic) has become a part of the gothic subculture, as well as everyone's favorite the Cure, that weren't considered a gothic band back in the 80s.
@@helgaketurka I think you are getting the terms 'goth' and 'gothic' mixed up. Gothic means a style of architecture, books,etc... The term goth means the modern music based subculture that was founded around 1980. The term 'gothic metal' means it is metal music that is inspired by gothic tropes, not the actual goth subculture. The Cure is considered one of the big four goth bands, not 'gothic' bands. They were definitely considered goth to some people in the 80's where the term 'goth' was being used. The term 'goth' wasn't fully spread around North America until the early to mid 90's.
This is correct. Metal is definitely not Goth. What we have here is yet another middle aged online poser. It's really pathetic and embarrassing.
@@helgaketurka poser.
@@megmcguigan3857 Please stop that pretentious nonsense. GOTHIC rock or GOTH rock means the same thing. GOTHIC metal or GOTH metal also means the same thing.
Awesome bands and also I want to mention "Crematory" gothic metal band from Germany 🤘🖤
Excellent list,I would also add "The Sins Of Thy Beloved".👽🤘🖤
Thanks, that's smth new🤍
I remember once seeing Draconian along with Saturnus... Draconian only had 2 albums released back then ... Absolutely amazing set list 😊
@@Ilnath Oh, that must be magical😊
There arent many bands that can top the run Katatonia had from Last Fair Deal to Dead End Kings.
@NavelOrangeGazer Well, kinda agree, but it's so subjective;) Plus Katatonia (unfortunately) happened to be very bad at performing live🫤
@@helgaketurka hmmm they were awesome live when I saw them on The Fall of Hearts tour. Might have been an off night.
@@NavelOrangeGazer shit happens, but I heard that from other people as well. Anyways I absolutelly love their music, it gives me someting that no other band can give🙂
Thanks for the video I have not heard of some of these and will give them a listen, thank you.
Its good music, but its not "true" goth music, like goth rock.
What a bullshit. You just basically cut a huge part of the subculture, because of the "frames" that you put yourself. So a "true" goth is the one that listens only like post punk, goth rock and dathrock? Narrow minded or seems like some sort of mental health issues
@@helgaketurkano, it isn't bull. Gothic Metal isn't Goth. It's Metal. Gothic and Goth are not the same thing, poser.
@@helgaketurkano, you're wrong. Gothic Metal is Metal and not Goth. I've been a DJ in the Goth clubs for years. We don't play Doom and Gothic Metal, because they are Metal genres. Typical poser, name calling others for simply speaking the truth..
@@helgaketurka Gothic and Doom Metal are not a part of the subculure, you poser. They are a part of the Metal subculture. Goth and Metal are worlds apart, and you clearly are not a part of either subculture if you're this confused. Name calling and getting defensive just shows everyone here that you know you are wrong. Grow up. You're over 40, and should know your genres by now.
@@thiscorrosion3843 I have people under my other videos who say that agrotech, dark electro are not for goth. I have a different experience in life, where the gothic subculture has a different direction, and I assume a wider range of genres. Being a DJ does not make you more knowledgeable about music. And the gothic subculture is not only about clubs, it is also about separate parties and festivals (if we are talking about this aspect). Poser
Like the video, but 10 minutes is far away from a deep dive!
@katsumotoamaya6540 Totaly agree, but I didn't want to quote the Wikipedia and instead gave my own view on a subject 😉 What would you add?
It's nice to know of someone that has the same favorites as me. 😊
Приветствую, желаю творческого вдохновения в дальнейшем творчестве, вы мне нравитесь💜
Спасибо большущее 🖤

My bad 🤦♂️👍. Respect 👍💪❤️
This video brought so much nostalgia!
It's true these bands formed a generation, and such music seems like it will never be written again.
About Type 0 Negative I have the exact same opinion, rather daring to say they sound very "American"? Dont know how to explain, but the guitar riffs and vocals sound somehow commercial-90s American band vibe?
Nonetheless, good video there!
@unselsliuthon Absolutely, Type of negative simply don't fit the whole crew😁Thanks so much, it means a lot to me😊
Type O Negative is Metal, not Goth.
@@thiscorrosion3843 .....and Type O Negative was not an actual goth band, they were 100% metal.
Type O Negative were literally The Sisters Of Mercy of the 90s.
@@megmcguigan3857 Nah, if you said that for CARNIVORE it would make sense, but not for Type O Negative which is too goth for average metalheads.
