Thanks so much for all the comments on this one, it's been awesome hearing what some of your other favourite punk bands are, so please continue sharing recs below! The Japanese punk scene is very alive. Diving on to the Japanese rock scene remotely from Sweden I found more and more First I wanna shout out to Shonen Knife. Playing early poppunk för over 40 years is legendary. Maybe Junky58% will take over the heritage? They have something they call Scandicore over there. Definitely, I discovered them myself around 2021/22 because I was listening to Sleaford Mods. All excellent bands! IMO, punk is a spirit more than a genre. And for that reason, it can never die. It rather continues to melt and warp into new, strange manifestations. And I'm always here for it! Thank you for the vid! ✌️🫶🦐
I've written two punkified songs last year if any punk band wants them, "Something I Don't Want" referring to women who only want a man as a walking purse and not to love him, the other one is "Abomination" describing being a devil's child who nobody would dare love.
The Linda Lindas are another nice Punk Band that opened for Green Day... I saw The Sniffers at a theater show and they were energetic to say the least...
Yeah, I like what I've heard from them! And I'm liking the tracks from the new album even more than their earlier stuff. I'm envious of the Amyl and the Sniffers show... they sold out really fast in London, so I'm not gonna be able to see them this time through.
Thanks for introducing me to Otoboke Beaver, I was familiar with the rest but I'm always happy to find something new. Especially in harder to find genre music
They're honestly one of my favourites, even on this list! Possibly more hardcore than some punk fans will enjoy, but my tastes tend to go a bit hardcore right now. I hope you enjoy them!
Dunno if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Bob Vylan is somewhere between punk, hip-hop, and dance musically but punk AF in spirit and is an amazing band.
The combination of recommending Otoboke Beaver while having Jorge Ben Jor's Africa Brasil on the background means an instant subscription from me, no questions asked.
Honestly, I'm not sure how I didn't think of them while working on this script, although I did realise they would've fit perfectly while editing. They're incredible. I'll just have to save them for another video!
I love Idles, and they crossed my mind while working on this, but their last couple albums sound like they've moved into post-punk / post-hardcore and not something purely punk. I'd love to talk about them at some point, but I didn't think they were a perfect fit in this particular video! Oh yeah, The Slits are excellent, along with some other early female-led punk bands like Au Pairs and The Raincoats.
Don't forget SCOWL, a hardcore band from Southern California. No less than Greenday mentioned them in a recent interview. The singer of SCOWL is a 25 year old girl, Kat Moss. The speed and ferocity of their music will remind you of early 1980s Punk. People are talking about them in the mainstream. If I were to mention one Punk band that will go mainstream, I'd say it's SCOWL. It gives me hope that Rock is going to be mainstream one day again...
hey, so glad I found your channel. Being an old punk I love seeing new bands (and existing). I've recently been getting into Soft Play (formerly Slaves) and their song punk is dead is likely why I spotted your video :) Also loving Teen Mortgage. Oh, and recently saw The Hives live in DC :) Cheers
Thanks for the comment! Haha, I named it after the old Exploited album, but it's such a slogan in punk that it connects to a lot of other songs and moments, too. I bet The Hives were excellent live! I hadn't heard Soft Play until recently, but I'm loving their earlier albums. Maybe it's just because I've gotten better at finding them, but it does feel like there's a lot of thriving punk styles and scenes around, which is reigniting my excitement for punk. Cheers!
Great video. This sentiment crawled into my brain over the past year, where I saw a lot of young people with new bands who were clearly carrying the punk torch. It has really made me feel positive about the world in a surprising way.
That's awesome! It feels to me like when you're not actively searching for good music, it's easy to hear the popular stuff and feel like music has gotten boring... but the more you explore, the more you realise there's more good music than you'll ever have time to keep up with.
Happy to see Otoboke Beaver on this list. I stumbled across their music this year thanks to the RUclips algorithm suggesting the video you showed of Kahokiss on drums. I got to see them on their recent tour, which was amazing. And I hope to see them on their Japan tour when I'm there in December. You did miss their first album, though, which is called Okoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver.
Nice, they're amazing live! I bet seeing them while actually in Japan would be awesome. Right, I didn't mention Okoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver, and I probably should've. I was thinking of it as a compilation more than a debut album, since tracks were from previous singles and EPs. But it was still worth giving a mention either way!
I've been listening to Amyl and the Sniffers for years, GEL and Otoboke Beaver a lot more recently - thanks for introducing the other three sick punk bands. Nice one!
Otoboke Beaver is clearly the sensation in this list and the comments to this band says it all. I expected Scowl to be in this list but it can not be complete at all. Good job! I liked it was from UK, USA and Japan. Many more countries have cool bands from Argentina to Mexico, Spain to Italy or Germany and Japan of course. Even China. Lots of active places to check out bands and offer them publicity.
I've recently been getting into Scowl, but don't know as much about them as the bands I included for this one. They're great, though! Yeah, there are so many good bands out there now, and I'm looking forward to covering some more of them in upcoming videos!
I’ve listened to an awful lot of Amyl and the Sniffers already, but hadn’t heard of any of the other bands. That’s going to change, great recommendations. These all seem like they could become pretty high rotation.
Wha?- The Dwarves Are Younger & Even Better Looking than the rest. The clip of them playing with Zeke in the club they used to perform at with Nirvana was pretty sweet in the Kurt & Courtney movie starring Eldon Hoke. The Dwarves Must Die, but they still Invented Rock n’ Roll. Mannequin Pussy is this summer’s top band though. *fun fact - Kurt & Dave Grohl were evicted from their shared house apartment rental, only to find their belongings on the street corner upon returning from tour a few weeks after Nevermind was released. This was due in part to The Dwarves being the only band in history to ink a seven-figure deal with Sub•Pop Records for Blood, Guts, & Pussy
How did three young ladies and a big black bear create the most significant “pop” punk masterpiece since Nevermind? IDK - I Got Heaven by Mannequin Pussy
Mannequin Pussy was definitely considered for this list! Definitely a band worth checking out, and I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention them
I’ve been into punk since I was 12 thanks to an older brother I’m nearly 60 now. I absolutely love a lot of the older bands but am always on the lookout for newer bands interesting list only really aware of Amyl and the Sniffers. One new UK band I’ve recently discovered is Dead Pony
Thanks for the comment! I got into punk at around the same age, although it was through the mid-nineties pop punk bands that were a gateway into a lot of the great older bands. I've not heard Dead Pony yet, but I'll check them out!
Thank you so much for the video. Amyl and the sniffers is one of the best shows I’ve been to. You should check out Snooper (started by a former teacher probably one of the most fun bands I’ve seen live), Pyrex (think they’re only on Bandcamp I saw them open for snooper), Music Mouse (they only have one ep so far that I can’t stop listening to. I first heard them live opening for Pyrex and snooper. (It was a really fun show)), and Pure Adult (one album of weird experimental awesomeness. I also first heard them live as an opener) I hope you check them out and please let me know if you like any of them cause I love sharing music
Thanks so much for the recs! I've seen snooper a few times in this chat now, so I'm literally going to put them on next. I always like hearing new music, and with all the great recommendations in this comments section, I'll probably do a follow-up video with my favourites I found in the comments. Once I've actually had time to hear all of them, which may take me a while!
@@thomasrowles348 follow up: I’ve now listened to Super Snooper several times, and it’s great! Very quirky and fun, but also not predictable either. You may enjoy The Okmoniks, a bit older of a band that I think only made one album, very fun and goofy garage punk with retro sounding keyboards. For some reason, Snooper got me thinking of them
out of these six bands I only knew Otoboke Beaver and Amyl, big fan of the latter. Now I became a fan of Petrol Girls and Gel too, thanks for the recommends!
Nice picks! I'm definitely an Otoboke Beaver and Amyl & the Sniffers fanboy. You might also want to check Drinking Boys & Girls Choir. And I need to ask: would Hotwax qualify as a punk band? Sounds so to me but I'm not 100% sure
Thanks for the comment! I got to see DB&GC open for OB, and they were excellent. And I think HotWax is really fun, regardless of genre... their tempo varies enough that I probably wouldn't think "punk" as my first genre tag for them, even though the vocals have a definite punk feel to them. Either way, a very fun band!
I live in South East Asia and there is quite an unknown scene happening over here. There is a band 9xactly from Saigon that has the sound attutude and stage presence of a hardcore punk band from the 80s. Rebel Riot are a punk band whose members have disbanded due to actual political strife happening in the country. In Malaysia and Indonesia they put on punk shows on islands in remote areas due to licensing issues and permits in the country. Punk rock went mainstream in the 90s but great bands like The Descendents finally got their due and blew up. Its a genre that is diverse in nature and ever changing. Punk is the music of outsiders and those who think outside the box it was the birth of grindcore and noise as well. It has progressed beyond just a carbon copy of itself especially abroad.
Glad you enjoyed the video! That scene's got some amazing bands! My knowledge of it is pretty basic other than the most obvious bands from it, but hopefully I can learn enough to do a video focused on it at some point.
Thank you for this. The Spotify algorithm failed hard not suggesting THE CHISEL. Sometimes I guess humans need to share with other humans, even if it’s through a You Tube video.
Yeah, sometimes the RUclips or streaming algorithms come up with something good, but I always find it more fun to hear recommendations from other people! If you enjoy The Chisel, you might also be into Crown Court or Conservative Military Image, both of which I learned from comments on here! They both fit within that Oi scene, but with their own takes on the sound. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment! I think the main problem is that I'm so obsessed with albums.... Usually I don't pay much attention to a band until they have at least a first album out, although a really good EP can sometimes catch my attention. And I've seen so many bands make one good album and then fall off immediately, so maybe I'm jaded about expecting a lot from a band really early in their career. But, to continue my long reply to your quick comment, when I do a follow-up to this video, I'm planning to highlight some bands with just a really strong first EP, although that won't be all the bands I go over.
@eclecticism-uk excellent point, I guess i really am getting old. Forgot what an impossible task it is keeping your finger on the pulse of the punk scene. I do look forward to hearing of some new ish to get in to, though. I subbed, so I'll see you soon!
I found out about them around the time of Itekoma Hits, but I now enjoy their earlier stuff too. I hope you enjoy some of the others when you get a chance to listen!
@@eclecticism-uk Oh, I took notes from your video and the comments. I've got about a week's worth of listening. I love it. Of all genres, I have kept up on punk the least, but this will definitely fix that. 🤘
I'd like to recommend The Erections from Japan and The Defectives from Italy. They both have an old school 80s Oi punk sound reminiscent of the bands I listened to as a dirty Minneapolis punk rocker forty years ago. Thanks for the content from a first time viewer and new subscriber.
Pretty good list. I'd also recommend Spiritual Cramp, Militarie Gun, and Destroy Boys in the punk scene. For more hardcore sounding bands, I really like Violencia, End It, and Jesus Piece.
@@eclecticism-uk Destroy Boys are pretty awesome. "Should've Been Me", "American River", "Beg For The Torture", "Locker Room Bully" are good ones to start with. I recommend checking out PUP, if you haven't already. They used to be call Topanga, but changed their name in 2013. They have four studio albums, three EPs, and three live albums.
I thinkof them as an Australian novelty surf punk band, not a bad thing! 6L GTR is an awesome song with a great video, I think it was animated by the same guy who did About to Crack by Vitamin X, another good hard-core band.
The best thing about youtube is discovering new music! Here are a few of the punk bands I'm currently enjoying: Snooper, Soft Play, Mini Skirt, Squid Pisser, KLONNS. Yobs, CUIR, Ismatic Guru. Theee Retail Simps, Chat Pile, Finale, Gee Tee, Aborted Tortoise, Flop Machine.
Thanks for the recs! I've seen a few people mentioning Snooper, so clearly I've been missing out, but this comments section is the first place I've seen them mentioned. Guess it's time to check them out!
Very interesting list. I'm a tremendous fan of The Chisel and have enjoyed Petrol Girls a lot, but never gotten into the others much. I'd recommend Sick Thoughts as truly punk (versus the hardcore leanings of most of this list) and Militarie Gun as bands I think could be considered for this sort of list as well. Either way, dig this for sure! Punx not dead!
Thanks for the recs! I hadn't heard either, but I'm listening to Sick Thoughts and really enjoying them. Some definite Ramones vibes, very oldschool garage punk
As a 55 yr old growing up with 80’s punk it makes me so glad that there are still pissed off youth making ass kicking music. And Amyl…one of the best live shows I’ve ever been to.
I can't wait to get a chance to see them! Haha, my gateway band into punk was Green Day, but I quickly started learning more about the 70's and 80's bands. There's so much to explore, even without trying to keep up with new stuff, which is a good problem to have.
Banshimoku's two albums in '22 is some of the most fun punk in a good long time. A three piece band with the distinct and almost cartoon voice of Chiga Shion. Ball & Cube with Vegetable , 芸術は大爆発だ!, MAZUUTAGUTTEKAKARE, and just about every song on those albums are just pure punk fun.
Thanks for the sub, and I hope you enjoy some more Soul Glo! Yeah, they definitely have some added elements and none of the reggae influence, but they do have the same wild energy and "Let's play every kind of music we like all at once" approach
Great video, some really good suggestions for new bands to try. I found the explanation of 'Oi' to be spot-on too. The only thing I didn't like was the pronunciation of 'Sparrer' which should be like Sparrow in a London accent
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Haha, after about a year and a half in the UK, I don't know if my accent has started evolving at all, although I've picked up a lot of Britishisms in my vocabulary (bin, hoover, quid, cheers)
So great to see Amyl and the Sniffers included - Australia represent! It's always nice to hear Australian singers embrace their accent. They released their Comfort to Me album during the lock down in Melbourne so they did their release with no audience on a pier, but fuck it rocks. If you like em checkout the live release/performance of Comfort to Me. Also recommend Viagra Boys, their vocalist did a duet with Amy from Amyl & the Sniffers and I can't stop listening to it!
@@eclecticism-uk The Chats are another great Aussie punk band that embrace their Australian-ness so check em out if you have time. I recommend "Smoko". Keep keeping us up to date with all the current punk bands from around the world.
@@alex11n1wonderland Yeah, they're really good! I haven't explored all that many releases so far, but they're one of my favourite new discoveries... I only started listening when someone recommended them in this chat. There will definitely be some more punk content coming up, and other genres as well.
Punk has never died out in the slightest…I think people who don’t know the genre or can’t define it, just assume it’s not around because it’s not in the charts all the time..I’ve been into punk rock since I was a teen, now I’m in my 40s, and I’ve been continuously discovering bands that I would class as punk rock the entire time
Very true. And if you are open to things that fall into the descended genres like post-hardcore and post-punk, the sounds of punk are always evolving in new ways too. Lots of great traditionalists and innovators if you're paying attention!
❌Never heard of Gel or the Chisel but I’m now listening & I really like what I hear Thanks for the introduction On another note, some sort of Doom compilation/review would be much appreciated as well.
Found Amyl and the Sniffers recently and been loving them, looking forward to checking out the rest of your recommendations! I'm a relative punk-enjoyer newbie, but I'll throw out a recommendation for lovely little Canadian band: Cross Dog.
Thanks for the rec, and welcome to punk! I listen to a lot of genres, but punk's usually my favourite. I'll have a few more punk videos coming up in the near future, so hopefully they help with finding some more good punk bands you haven't come across yet!
THANK YOU!!! This had great timing, and your choices will probably have an effect on someone's life long taste in music. Not me, although these bands are now all getting on my playlists. My 9yo son has been into punk for almost a year now, and it will be nice to introduce him to some bands he might be able to see play. Right now he likes SNFU, Bad Religion, and early AC/DC. We sometimes ride around with a distressingly loud DIY bluetooth speaker mounted on his bikes rat trap, blasting punk or singing Big Balls. Flying the flag and annoying the civilians. Eventially he will start finding his own bands, and some of it I will think sounds like crap, but for now I am enjoying playing the older brother, introducing him to bands, buying patches for his jacket, buying jackets after his mother throws out the one we put patches on, showing him how to spike his hair with egg whites ans kool ade....good times....almost makes up for the 3 years of screaming, vomit, feces, and broken stuff that is early childhood, almost.
That's awesome to hear! I can imagine that giving you a renewed excitement about the music, too, since it's always more fun when you can share new bands you're into with someone you care about. If you haven't stumbled across it yet, you and your son may want to check out the RUclips channel 'little punk people.' The kid on the channel talks about his love of music, and has interviewed a ton of punk and metal musicians. And he was very young in the earlier videos, probably only a few years older than your son. Enjoy, and I'll be posting more videos about current bands--and scenes from the past too--so you might find some more good bands to explore together on here :)
The chats (as every commenter in here has said) are also a fantastic and fun band. Whole lotta antics and 4 awesome albums. I’d also recommend the dead pioneers, a native American lead punk band that gets pretty political and made me really think. They’ve got one album and it’s awesome. Idles are great too, but they’re more post punk and a lil older. The Viagra boys are also a fantastic punk and post punk outfit, super creative and always keeping me engaged. Private function, pist idiots, and boing boing are also great aus punk outfits. DETHRONED is an easy German hardcore band with a serious attitude and some killer breakdowns. Their EP primal instinct is the detention of stank face. Restraining order and civic are two great modern bands that really do a good job at emulating that early 80’s socal and Bay Area punk scene, I see a lot of black flag, germs, and circle jerks in them. And lastly gotta give that local band shoutout, go check out diskount vodka for some super energetic punk, they’ve got a great DIY aesthetic and kinda have some Amyl and the Sniffers vibes. Also this is a fantastic vid, your list was peak. So many great modern punk bands are out there today!
Thanks for the recs, and for the kind words! I love Viagra Boys, they're so unique and fun, but always experimenting, too, which is great. Dead Pioneers sounds like something I'd be into, so I'm excited to check them out! And wow, just saw some of Diskount Vodka on RUclips. I hope they get more added to Bandcamp, they've got a great energy the vocalist's got a great voice, too!
Something I witnessed in Japan blew my tiny English Brain. I flew to Japan in 2023 to follow Band-Maid on tour for a few weeks (Hard rock/punk/metal). At one point I got to Sapporo the day before the Maids were to play and went to check out where the venue was. When I got there a punk band was loading in. I decided to buy a ticket. The Band-Maid shows were (as usual) about 85-90% males with an average age of at least 50. This punk gig (two all male bands playing - one was called Tendouji) the audience was about 75-80% female with an average age of about 18. Yes, a huge portion of the crowd were under 18 young females. Many attending on their own. Some in large 'gangs' lol! The girl in front of me was 13 if she was a day. The crowd went totally nuts. One band was crowd surfing on wooden boards about the size of two doors while playing a song. There was a bar and absolutely no security. Everyone was safe and well behaved, I didn't see any under age drinking either. It made this old punk (I'm 57) VERY happy to see youngsters rocking out to punk rock! I've been a fan of Otoboke Beaver for years. Other great Japanese punk bands I know of Komsume - 3 piece pop-punk The Do Do Do's - 3 piece pop-punk Pinky Donna Seskimo Midori - Jazz Punk (now split unfortunately) I's - Punk band of the legend that is Ano Polkadot Stingray Tonaroko Rammy - 4 piece all female punk Tendouji - who I saw in Sapporo
That's awesome to hear! I'm excited to see how many people are fans of Otoboke Beaver. In my 'real life,' I've only met one other person who had even heard them. I'll need to check out most of those bands you listed, but I love Midori.. such a great, original band!

Thanks for the rec, I'm trying out "High Risk Behavior" right now, and love it so far!
The Chats are great, really keeping the aussie pub rock tradition alive
Seconding the Chats
They have that Cosplaying how we grew up Rehash Energy
El panorama Punk actual Australiano, sin duda vive el mejor momento hasta ahora,PRIVATE FUNCTION,SPLIT SYSTEM,MINI, SKIRT,ALF etc....
Die Spitz are an up and coming punk band that show a lot of potential.
I've been listening to them these last few days, and they're excellent!
They opened for Amyl & the Sniffers in Phoenix last year
Die Spitz is remarkable.
Yes! Just saw Bob Vylan and it was an awesome show!
The combination of recommending Otoboke Beaver while having Jorge Ben Jor's Africa Brasil on the background means an instant subscription from me, no questions asked.
Thanks for the subscription! Yeah, Africa Brasil is SO good... It was one of the first albums I got on vinyl, an instant pickup when I had the chance
And viagra boys?
Honestly, I'm not sure how I didn't think of them while working on this script, although I did realise they would've fit perfectly while editing. They're incredible. I'll just have to save them for another video!
Didn't Amy from Amyl and the sniffers do a song with the Viagra boys?
Good point.
Soft play? (Formerly called slaves)
Thanks for the list. Otoboke Beaver remind me a bit of The Slits. The Sniffers are bloody awesome. How about Idles?
I love Idles, and they crossed my mind while working on this, but their last couple albums sound like they've moved into post-punk / post-hardcore and not something purely punk. I'd love to talk about them at some point, but I didn't think they were a perfect fit in this particular video!
Oh yeah, The Slits are excellent, along with some other early female-led punk bands like Au Pairs and The Raincoats.
Very much appreciated this video. You've given me new music to listen to 💯 RIP NOFX
Yeah, talk about an iconic band :(
Don't forget SCOWL, a hardcore band from Southern California.
Cheers!
@@eclecticism-uk Check out Wine Lips, they are an up and coming Canadian punk band with a lot of Ramones influence.
I’m so obsessed with SOFT PLAY!
@@theHotpointHoodlum Same here, and I love the dark humour in their videos too
@@micktheoldpunk you check out baby Dave his solo project? That’s where the song mirror muscles originated
Got to see Otoboke Beaver earlier this year and they were phenomenal. Didn't know the other bands & will definitely check them out.
Thanks for the comment. I hope you find some more bands you enjoy on the list!
Soul Glo live is a life altering experience. Solid list here, nice work
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
But it was still worth giving a mention either way!
awesome video. you featured many of today's great punk bands.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the picks! Obviously you can't get all the good ones on a list of 6, but that just means I'll need to make more lists
So glad you called out Gel. They are amazing! And The Chisel sounds like The Clash crossed with Rancid.
I've been listening to Amyl and the Sniffers for years, GEL and Otoboke Beaver a lot more recently - thanks for introducing the other three sick punk bands. Nice one!
You're welcome! Hope you enjoy the new ones. There's a lot of great punk right now!
I'm glad you like what you've heard so far! Yeah, there's a lot of great punk coming out, and a bunch of amazing recs in this comment section too.
GEL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! absolutely love them
I'm stuck in the 90s, can't escape, can't leave the safe Fat Wreck / Lookout / Epitaph bubble. Excep for White Lung. RIP White Lung!
White Lung!
throw in Nitro, Vagrant, Drive-Thru, Asian Man, Hopeless and Fearless records/bands! lol!
The Dwarves are still around.
And are still the best to ever do it.
Definitely a band worth checking out, and I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention them
I came for the bewbs, and stayed for the music. Dwarves 5/5 *'s
@@eclecticism-uk I look forward to it! Honestly the hardest part is not recommending like 20 bands all at once
For some reason, Snooper got me thinking of them
Really enjoyed your critique. Thanks. I also reckon Redskins should have been one of your recommended early Oi sounds to explore.
Thanks for the rec! That's one of the oi bands I've never come across, so I'll check them out.
out of these six bands I only knew Otoboke Beaver and Amyl, big fan of the latter. Now I became a fan of Petrol Girls and Gel too, thanks for the recommends!
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you found a couple new discoveries in here :)
Excellent video and selection of bands. Can I also recommend the Pill and Sooks, which I think would have fit into this lineup just perfectly.
Thanks for the recommendations! I don't think either have been mentioned yet in these comments. I'll definitely check them out!
Can confirm Otoboke Beavers is great live. Already knew of Gel and Amyl but didn't know the other bands, thanks for the recommendations!
Probably the best show I've been to this year. I hope you enjoy the other bands as well!
Dead??? Aah! Not while im alive!!!
Great job, kid. Cheers!
thank you thank you thank you!!!! Love it! I'm really into the original OI scene so when you spoke about it I nearly fell out of my chair!
Cheers!
Check out Dead Pioneers.
Great video, these are all bands that deserve more attention. But, do one on bands that are actually new, not 5-15 years old.
Otoboke Beaver is the only one I knew and I've been listening to them for 8 or 10 years. I'm eager to listen to the rest.
Glad you mentioned Gel!
They're so good!
Unknowingly wandering into a Gel mosh pit at a festival this summer, is one of the best things I've done all year.
Thanks for the recs! I've heard a little Militarie Gun, but the rest of these are new to me. I'm looking forward to checking them out!
They have four studio albums, three EPs, and three live albums.
glad to see otoboke beaver getting recognition
Oooo. Thanks for this. Hadn't heard of soul glo. love discovering new bands.
They're really fun. Hope you enjoy them!
Great list. Thanks♡
You're welcome :) Thanks for watching!
didn't know petrol girls or gel. gonna being diving into them now. thanks for the recs.
Sure thing, thanks for the comment! I hope you enjoy them
@@eclecticism-uk that journey also led me to ecca vandal, and die spitz. thanks for the discoveries.
Happy to see I already knew 2 out of 6! Amyl and the Sniffers and Otoboke Beaver have awesome energy. 🤘
Look at you! They're both awesome bands, for sure.
I knew 3 of some new stuff to look into, thanks
Glad you enjoyed, and that I introduced you to a few new ones!
Hey don't forget the Chats! Evenif they're a bit meme-y they're plenty of good ole garage punk fun.
I somehow didn't actually hear them before seeing them in this comment section today. I'm correcting that mistake now... they're excellent!
@@eclecticism-uk Saw them live in late 2019 at Vera in Groningen, great venue where many legendary bands have visited!
Snooper have a bunch of fun music videos but don't miss this great live set: ruclips.net/video/W_p0MqdYC3E/видео.htmlsi=XlaT1bqxD6I8XN9u
Big YES for Chat Pile ....
Punk never dies. I took my daughter to her first concert when she was 12. It was Gwar. Been going to metal shows ever since.
Haven't heard of any of these. But now I'jm going to check them out. THanks.
Yay me, i got one out of six. I've been listening to Amyl & The Sniffers for a few years now.
I'll gladly check all these bands out
As a 55 yr old growing up with 80’s punk it makes me so glad that there are still pissed off youth making ass kicking music.
Nice rec! I've been trying them out this morning, and they're quite unique and a lot of fun.
Thanks man, here's a sub! Soul Glo is giving off heavy Bad Brains type energy for my 1965 ass! Thanks for the reviews
Thanks for the sub, and I hope you enjoy some more Soul Glo! Yeah, they definitely have some added elements and none of the reggae influence, but they do have the same wild energy and "Let's play every kind of music we like all at once" approach
GEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're so good!
Honorable mention to Scowl if were going in the hardcore punk direction.
check out Cerce. JIVEBOMB, and RUTT.
One of the best live shows!!
Pretty much everyone in the USA pronounces it wrong. I think the assumption there is that it's to do with sparring, as in someone who spars.
Chats, Sniffers, Lambrini Girls, Soft Play and Electro Punk gods Sleaford Mods are playing daily for me
So great to see Amyl and the Sniffers included - Australia represent!
I love Viagra Boys! And yeah, that pier performance is really good. Australia has a lot of great punk bands!
Glad to see Otoboke Beaver on the list. Love them.
nOI!se, cinderblock, the virus, the ruffians, the unseen...
That's a lot of homework, but I'll check them out, thanks for the recs! I've heard The Unseen, but the rest of these are new to me
The virus and the unseen are both like 30 years old. Cinderblock is sick
NOISE and so good and great dudes.
Good choices. I'm digging Lambrini Girls as well at the moment. Bob Vylan too but more in a rap / electronic vein.
I'll check them both out! I know I've heard of Bob Vylan, but I've never gotten around to trying him out yet
I just checked out Lambrini Girls, bangin', good call
following GEL and Amyl & the sniffers since years ago, alse heard about otoboke beaver, thnx 4 recommendations
❌Never heard of Gel or the Chisel but I’m now listening & I really like what I hear
Thanks for the introduction
On another note, some sort of Doom compilation/review would be much appreciated as well.
The Chisel fucking rule!!!!!!
They sound great, but a lot like early Fucked Up.
@lextalonis839 no they don't. Besides sharing some influences. They sound nothing alike
I fucking loved Petrol Girls. Thanks a lot. I’m very early in the morning watching this and can’t wait to show it to my wife.
They're so good, aren't they? Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing it with your wife as well!
Dude....The Chats?
Greatest thing since sliced bread
Amyl, Gel and Otoboke Beaver are all bands I'm familiar with. Amyl and the Sniffers are fantastic live. Lucky to have seen them twice.
Not punk but punk-inspired / punk-adjacent and enjoyed by former punks immensely: Band-Maid.
I clicked because I was just happy to see a Chameleons album in the back ground.
The Chameleons are one of the most underrated bands! I have a couple of theirs on vinyl so far.

I've seen beaver 6 times each time gets better
Been punk since the 70s. Not stopping.
I discovered Gel, just yesterday and is awesome
I had only heard of Amyl and the Sniffers. I hope they come to the US where I live. Please play Houston! Thanks for the excellent video!
Caught Otoboke Beaver in Detroit earlier this year with Drinking Boys and Girls Choir. Both were great!
Yeah, both bands bring so much energy and fun to the stage!
Amyl & The Sniffers is great, Australia has some great Punk bands now, The Chats are my favorite.
Other great Japanese punk bands I know of
Komsume - 3 piece pop-punk
The Do Do Do's - 3 piece pop-punk
Pinky Donna
Seskimo
Midori - Jazz Punk (now split unfortunately)
I's - Punk band of the legend that is Ano
Polkadot Stingray
Tonaroko Rammy - 4 piece all female punk
Tendouji - who I saw in Sapporo
That's awesome to hear! I'm excited to see how many people are fans of Otoboke Beaver. In my 'real life,' I've only met one other person who had even heard them. I'll need to check out most of those bands you listed, but I love Midori.. such a great, original band!
Thanks for the tips! Another one I've gotten into recently is Candy Apple ... silly name, but some serious noise. Love it.
Thanks for watching, and for the rec! I'll check Candy Apple out. Cheers!
@@eclecticism-uk you're welcome! And I hope you dig it!
Good stuff, thanks for the info!
Sure thing, I hope you enjoy some of the bands covered!
yay for Otoboke Beaver - highlight of this year's Glastonbury
I saw the show online, and it was so, so good!
Amy is so wonderful. I've never seen her not smiling. I've described her to newcomers as Angus without the guitar.
