Thanks for all the great comments! A problem with one person trying to do a video every two weeks (especially when the videos take a lot of editing like these) is that you make some mistakes. Thankfully some of you have pointed them out so I can correct them here: At best, industrial was influenced a bit by goth in the 80's, and didn't cause as big of a shift as my wording implies. The new Black Doldrums album is "In Limerance." The soundtrack Kaelan Mikla recently worked on is "The Phantom Carriage." The genre I couldn't bring to mind when talking about Chain Cult is death rock. Boy Harsher consider themselves an EBM band, which is a whole other thing from goth, and descended more from industrial than goth. But since they have a lot of goth appeal, I would've included them anyway, just maybe pointed this out. And even when I watch interviews to see how to pronounce Molchat Doma correctly, I'm a dork who still can't manage it.
Hey, just say this! Well stated! Glad to hear that Boy Harsher understands that they are EBM. They are not darkwave, thus not goth. Doesn't make them any less cool or good. Also, I still don't know how to pronounce Molchat Doma. LMAO.
@@chameleon47Mol- as "Mall", -chat as "chut" (not a word, but maybe you can read it easier?). Accent on "chut". Doma - accent on the end. By the way, the bands name means "The Houses Keep Silent"
Preoccupations is really good! And She Past Away is a favourite for me, although they've been around a little bit too long to have fit with the theme for this one.
Wonderful, I'm glad I was able to find quite a few that'll be new to you! Was there a goth scene at all where you were growing up? I grew up in a small midwest city, and I hung out with the goth and alternative kids in high school, although I didn't have the confidence at the time to commit to any kind of aesthetic that would make me stand out, haha
I've been straight up obsessed with Boy Harsher right now! Her voice legit gives me chills, especially on the song Face The Fire! I'm excited to check out some more of these bands 🙏
Yeah, her voice is amazing, and perfect for the style of music they do! I hope you enjoy some of the others, too... Caress in particular shares some vocal similarities with Boy Harsher, although she's only put out one album so far.
@eclecticism-uk Chain Cult is the band I'm loving the most so far. They're like a perfect blend between Joy Division and Danzig era Misfits! Great band for sure! Thanks for this list 🖤
You're very welcome! I'm also mortified that I left a word out of your album title and can't change it now, haha 🤦Best of luck with the new album rollout, and if you want to do an interview with a London-based RUclipsr who never mixes up his facts, let me know...
@@eclecticism-uk haha don’t be, actually didn’t notice 😅 that was a highly comprehensive review and timeline you did, thank you. That would be wonderful, we’d really love to do that!
I'm sure you're a bit busy with the album launch at the moment, but I messaged on Insta... No idea if there's a better way to reach out to coordinate :D
Others to check out: Urban Heat, TR/ST, Male Tears, Haunt Me, Harsh Symmetry, Secret Shame, Drab Majesty, Corlyx, Lebanon Hanover (might have been age here), ACTORS, Bootblacks, and Ritual Howls are all contemporary bands heavy in my rotation.
It was age with both Drab Majesty and Lebanon Hanover! Eventually I'll do another goth/darkwave video without an age restriction, because I'd love to talk about both bands. Thanks for the other suggestions. There are several I've not heard of before!
@@eclecticism-ukLight Asylum is another solid "aged" band. Unfortunately, they only released 1 EP & 1 album around 10 years ago....I've been hoping for another album ever since. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Topographies (Lol Tolhurst's son is the lead vocalist).
Holy F@#$ing s@#$ dude. I was waiting for Twin Tribes to show up on this list. I also..... was sure from their sound. That they were a post-punk/ darkwave band, that have been around, that I had just missed somehow. They are amazing.
@@danvsjeep8062 It does feel that way! And with their albums having sort of a vintage darkwave look to them too, I bet a lot of people think they’ve been around for longer than they actually have.
What a great video eclecticism!!! We're an experimental goth duo from LA and you included so many of our influences here and also managed to introduce us to some amazing new artists! Keep up the amazing work brother! subscribed
Mareux, Casket Cassette, Steintor Herrenchor, Closed tear, She Passed Away and Nuovo Testemento are some of my favorites not mentioned. I love that this sound is taking off so much. Got some new ones to check out from this video. Thank you!
She Past Away is one of my favourites too! They only didn't make it onto this list because they're a bit too old for the parameters in this one, but I'm sure I'll talk about them at some point :) Thanks for the other recs as well, I haven't heard several of them yet!
@@opethfan9000 Try the band Dark out. Nyctophilia, Gothic Love and Lovers in the Dark are all great songs. I just found them the other day and I'm obsessed!
This is a pretty great list. I definitely was introduced to some new artists. I would be interested in seeing what kind of Goth Metal bands you have discovered. I don't know many and a fan of TON who unfortunately is no longer active since Pete died. Keep up the great content.
That would be a good topic! Unto Others and Tribulation are both two I've been into that aren't just long-running bands putting out new material. But there are a lot of those still doing good stuff too, like Paradise Lost. And if you want someone who is really similar in sound to Type O Negative, I came across a band called October Noir this year. Sometime I forgot I wasn't listening to Type O Negative.
@@eclecticism-uk Thanks so much. I know about Unto Others and have seen them in concert recently as they are a local band here. :) I hadn't heard about Tribulation. I've heard of Paradise Lost, but don't think I've had a chance to hear them yet. I will check them out along with October Noir as well. Thanks so much! 🦇
@@Sciathan_Leathair sure thing! And not long after I replied to your comment, I saw Forgemaster Metal has a new video covering some other new gothic metal bands. Check that out when you’re ready for some more!
I’m obsessed with Boy Harsher. They’re the first new addition to my list of favourite musicians in about a decade. Even my ska-punk husband finds their music interesting, and he does not share my appreciation for synths. I really enjoyed your video and I’m excited to try Kaelan Mikla, thanks.
Thanks for the comment, and I hope you enjoy them! Yes, Boy Harsher is excellent. It feels like a while since they've released something, although Augustus has been involved in some soundtrack projects more recently... but Jae's voice adds so much to the mix for me, so I'm really hoping for more of them working together soon.
@@subsectl.a.8987 Thank you, I can read. It is, however- posted on a video titled "13 of the best current goth and darkwave bands", so it is logical to think it likely that anyone posting a list of bands they enjoy would follow suit. "This post doesn't say they're goth"
Wow! It really surprised me to hear you naming Soda Stereo when you were talking about Twin Tribes. They were one of the most popular and influential bands in Latin America in the 80's. And, actually, I saw Twin Tribes the past year. They played some covers of popular Spanish postpunk songs.
I've heard a little Soda Stereo in the past, but not enough to be able to spot any influences in anyone else! That's cool that Twin Tribes works some of that material into their live shows. Other than Sumo, I can't think of any post punk 80's Latin American bands... are there any others you'd recommend?
@@eclecticism-uk Thank you for asking! There are not many bands from the 80s. Some popular rock bands started with a post-punk and new-wave influence, but they mixed with other genres. But some popular songs from that decade are: - Hombre Lobo en París by La Unión - Tren al Sur by Los Prisioneros - El Velo by Estados Alterados
My wife and I just caught Creeper opening for Twin Temple last week, and I was instantly hooked. Such a good live show, great hooks, and you deacribed them almost EXACTLY like I have been to people. Particularly the Alkaline Trio and Jim Steinman comparisons. Great video.
This list is a good mix. As for contemporary bands adding something new to the genre, I'd look at Urban Heat, A Cloud of Ravens, Vision Video, and Ritual Howls.
Thanks for this list. Definitely agree with Boy Harsher at #1, just an amazing band over all. Also love Twins Tribes, Molchat Dolma, Vision Video, & Kaelan Mikla. I'm a little surprised that neither Lebanon Hanover nor She Past Away were on here as they seem to be two of the bigger modern goth bands, but I do think they both formed in 2012 so maybe they just miss your cut-off date. Creeper I had never heard of, but they sounded good in the clip so definitely gonna go check them out.
Yep, both were bands that were immediately on the list... but then I decided to make the cut off a bit later since I didn't want to spend too much time going through bands I see as the most popular of the modern ones. People have really been enjoying these goth videos, so I could definitely see doing a "getting into modern goth" video that covers the two of them, and some of the others that have been around a bit too long for this one!
@@eclecticism-uk For me personally, Gothic-Rock has always been my favorite genre. Beyond that though, it legitimately feels like the genre is experiencing somewhat of a revival. The Cure's new album "Songs from the Lost World" is easily their darkest album since Disintegration, maybe even Pornography, and it spent most of November at #1 on the Billboard charts. A number of bands you listed here also managed to get on the lower tiers of the charts, a major accomplishment for a non-mainstream genre in general.
Enjoyed your video . As a an older metal fan with a goth girlfriend I’ve seen quite a bit this last decade so maybe a follow up on this,Ash Code, She Passed Away, Faces of Sarah could be included, keep this format up
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I'm planning to do some more of these "current bands in long-lasting genres" videos for sure, probably eventually getting into metal as well. I listen to a lot of it, but still feel like a bit of a noob, haha!
Awesome video. I definitely have a couple bands and lots of music to analyse. Some bands I would add or would like to have mentioned are: 1. Nox Novacula 2. The Kentucky Vampires 3. (Lesbian Bed Death) Not really a new name but the lineup was essentially fully refreshed with new faces 4. Ludovico Technique 5. Pagefire 6. Sonsombre 7. Velvet Mist 8. Vlad in Tears 9. Whispering Sons 10.Aeon Sable
Awesome vid. About Chain Cult, the genre you're looking for is deathrock. Deathrock = goth + punk rock. Another newish deathrock band is The Wraith from LA starting in 2016. They also put out a new album this year. And also Rope Sect from Germany, started in 2017.
RIP Davey Bales! It was hard for me to listen to Ghost March only because Davey was one of my favorite singers! When I first saw Rope, I thought The Rope (who also just dropped a new album, Nightbird). Yama Uba dropped their debut album Silhouettes, which is amazing.
@ositox5659 I didn't follow them that closely and it's been a while since I listened to them so I didn't know. That sucks though. RIP. Thanks for the recs on the other two, I'll definitely check them out
Thanks for the deathrock recs! I've heard Rope Sect, but the rest of these are new to me. I love some of the 80's deathrock bands, but I've only recently started digging into the newer ones, which might be why I didn't even think of Chain Cult as being deathrock until you mentioned it.
@@eclecticism-uk Check out Rudimentary Peni- anything from Cacophony onward. While initially anarcho punk, everything Cacophony onward is arguably more death rock.
I love your channel. Great research and information. I am a DJ at a rather popular local Goth club and I'm always looking for new bands to share with our rather large audience.
Thanks for the kind words! It's good to know there are still goth clubs out there thriving. I hope at least a handful of these were new to you... I tried to cover a range of the popular bands and also some new up and coming acts.
Brilliant viddi mate. Hadn't heard of a single one of them. Love that you have that Belarus band, their sound really is classic and sharp. As an old school goth/punk alt nerd, I often wonder what's going on currently, but rarely find anything. This collection is more than I have found in the last ten years and then some. Absolutely love it and will be snapping up a bunch of stuff now.
Thanks for the kind words! I hope you find a few that stick around as some new favourites. I've found out about a lot of other good ones in the comments, and the one that jumps to mind right away is Actors. For slightly older but still very good bands, She Past Away and Drab Majesty are both very good. Cheers!
Void Vision - dark wave synth magic. A lot of vintage synths sounds and great vox True Body - goth rock/coldwave. Saw them on tour with Gost, and they were excellent 🤌
OG Goth here - I saw all the original bands when I was a teen in the early to mid 80s. I am up to date on Goth bands up to around the early 2000s, but haven’t been looking hard for newer bands lately. This is a great list. I’m going to dive into some of these newer ones (I just made a giant playlist), and come back to look at the comments, too.
I'm envious you got to see the original bands when they were in their prime! It does feel like there's been a resurgence since about the 2010's, but I'm not sure if that's just because I wasn't paying much attention during the 2000's. Either way, there are a lot of great bands to explore now!
Loved the video. I took the recommendation of House of Harm and have had the Vicious Pastimes album on repeat since! Turns out they are also in the UK in November so I'm going to see them. Again, thanks for the recommendation!
Oh cool! I'm glad you're gonna make it to see them. I'm also in the UK and have seen so many bands doing shows I want to go to next month. Black Doldrums are doing their album launch party on November 1st in London, but I'll still be recovering from a Chelsea Wolfe show at that point, haha! I'll have to look into the House of Harm tour and see if I can fit one of their shows in. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying them! Playground is also really good... I've listened to it more since making this video, and it's catching up with Vicious Pastimes.
Thanks for the recommendations! I would add Actors, Naut, Noktva, The Flatfield, Then Comes Silence , Soror Dolorosa, Urban Heat and Date At Midnight, to name a few...
Thanks for some new bands to check out. Reading comments is exciting; I've been listening to a lot of what I consider "new goth," thanks to new technology recommending new bands based on my playlists. Seems like enough of us are hearing the vibe we recognize in similar bands. I have to give shout out to twin tribes- absolutely amazing and continuing to impress me. TR/ST, Drab Majesty, ACTORS, KVB, She Past Away, Buzz Kull, Harsh Symmetry, Patriarchy, Soft Kill, Aeon Sable, Light Asylum
That's a good list of bands! I just started listening to Patriarchy today, actually, after randomly stumbling across them. And I learned about ACTORS from one of the comments on here, and I don't know how I was missing them for this long! She Past Away and Drab Majesty are both favourites of mine, but were just a bit too old to make it onto this particular list... but I'm sure I'll find a chance to talk about them :)
I really like Boy Harsher's remix colab with Special Interest-steel pulse beat. Tiredsky is a great youtube channel where I get my goth/indie fix. Keep up the good work.
great list, so glad I found this channel, just added all of these to my downloads. Im old enough to remember the classics like bauhaus and joy division and these new bands are great too
some other bands to add to the other suggestions here, these bands are dark but not necessarily goth 😇throat, crows, coughin vicars, health, a.a williams, blood red shoes, chelsea wolfe, fourth dominion, unto others
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope you like some of the videos I've done on other genres, too... although I will be doing some more goth topics as well! I've been listening to some of those first wave goth bands for a long time, too, and they're still some of my very favourites.
Oh yeah, I'll second Chelsea Wolfe and Health.... I thought about both for this video, but they didn't fit quite neatly enough into goth. But they're both excellent!
Great list! I love quite a few of them! Other shout-outs I’d include is 1. Lebanon Hanover 2. She Past Away 3. The Twilight Sad 4. Ritual Howls 5. Drab Majesty 6. Je T’aime 7. Lycia 8. Ist Ist
I am new here on your channel and so honored that there are channels covering new goth bands as just from the usual old 80's and early 90's goth bands .I do see most of the bands that was mentioned here has still have that classic post punk and darkwave as we all know very well and one of them is Twin Tribes which i really have most respect for. I would really want to see more of new modern goth bands been mentioned in here . A very great band is the Awakening who is originally from South Africa but now based in the USA since 2009 .The band is originally driven by one person who is a songwriter/vocalist and multi instrumental artist whose music is described as Gothic rock/New wave/ dark wave/ industrial which i think needs to be looked as well and is currently releasing a new Album in October under same name as the band. Another great band from Germany which i also want to see featured in here is WISBORG who also have that darkwave / goth rock/ synth pop influences .Thank you so much for this review and let us support more Goth music and bands out there
Thank you was waiting for a list like this, usually its older goth groups, making my playlist. Recommend you try out Prayers theyre sorta considered the founders of Cholo-Goth. Thanks again.
Great list! Other cool bands that fit the criteria: WINGTIPS, Urban Heat, Actors, Traitrs, Creux Lies, Minuet Machine, Harsh Symmetry, and Drab Majesty. House of Harm and Twin Tribes are awesome and the live shows for these two as well as Urban Heat and WINGTIPS are so much fun.
We've been lucky to catch RGFP several times, from the back of a coffee shop to playing at Dark Force Fest. They are always a blast and seem to be really fun people in person.
❌You must have your ear to the ground as you really convey a knack for finding new bands I’ve never heard of, in genres I enjoy. Bravo! May I add a few that I currently listen to: Drab Majesty/ VR Sex Soft Kill topographies Cold Showers Death of Lovers …& I really enjoy Peter Murphy from Bauhaus solo stuff. Great voice!
I love Drab Majesty! They're one of my favourites that would fit with this style, just been around a bit too long to fit with this topic. I like what I've heard from Soft Kill and Peter Murphy, but I'll need to check out the others... Thanks for the recs, and I'm glad you're finding some new discoveries from these videos!
@@danvsjeep8062 They were only left off because they'd been around a few years too long! Same with Drab Majesty and the Soft Moon. Topographies is one I still need to check out!
Clan of Xymox... forgotten godfathers of Goth / Darkwave, from the Netherlands. New album called EXODUS and amazing song "Blood of Christ". Saw them recently in Cambridge, MA.
They are amazing, and really should've gotten a shout at the beginning of this video! They've steadily been making good music ever since the 80's, with a great level of consistency the whole time.
Mate. Your take on this genre of music is both informative and knowledgeable. I thought I was "up to date" on this... apparently not :-). Also, props for mentioning curve. Best band I saw live, and will always be so. Completely underated IMO. You got yourself a sub bruv.
Thanks, glad to have you aboard :) Honestly, after making each of these videos, people in the comments give me about 100 bands I've never heard of, so I never really feel up to date myself :D Curve is excellent, definitely one of the most underrated/underknown of the original shoegaze bands.
Thanks for the suggestions. I actually saw Creeper at Warped tour years ago and they were great. I'm a goth who does stand-up comedy and a lot of my material touches on the dark alternative underground.
I've seen Rosegarden Funeral Party, Kaelan Mikla, Twin Tribes, and Vision Video live. They are all amazing bands and are equally amazing on stage. I was somewhat surprised that there were some bands on your list I wasn't familiar with that I am now following. Thank you for that! I know several people have mentioned bands they'd like to add to your list and here are mine (I know this list was limiting the bands to 10 years, and some in my list may be a bit older): Creux Lies DARK Then Comes Silence Nox Novacula Doors in the Labyrinth Delusions of Madness Pass/Ages Gulf Blvd Panic Priest
Thanks for the kind words! Nox Novacula is quite good, but you have a lot of others on here I've not heard yet, so I'll have to add them to my list. One thing I love about doing this type of video is that you can get a little introduction from the bands in the video, but then the comments section captures a huge range of what's going on in the genre, and gives you so much more to explore. Thanks for the recs!
Another rabbit hole would be American 80’s experimental electronic underground music, such as the Nightcrawlers. A lot of the artists only recorded on tapes, and they were prolific. Awesome stuff that you can find on RUclips. Cheers!
Deceits, Give My Remains to Broadway, Casket Cassette, This Cold Night, Drab Majesty, Traitrs, Forever Grey, Body of Light, Dancing Plague, Xiu Xiu, Jack Stauber, The Exit Bags
I was glad to see a few of my favorites on this list, but even better were a few you mentioned that I’ll be digging in to - Rosegarden Funeral Party, Chain Cult, and Creeper. I think you’d like Convert, from Milwaukee WI. Convert fits in with this list and has a very low monthly listener count on Spotify, similar to some others on this list. They’re great live and worth a listen.
I am a one man goth band, also from Georgia. I work mostly with gothic metal and have seen a pretty big rise in heavier forms of gothic music. I hope people can find joy in the heaviness and darkness that i try to convey, check it out sometime!
Thanks for the video. I will check all mentioned bands out. I was only aware of 2 of them, The Creeper (through Scream 2022 and Salem's song) and Boy Harsher (thorugh Halloween Ends)
I'm impatient to discover more of your channel. That's the first video I watched of you, and I just want to say thanks. You're precious and accurate on this video, and I'd discovered some great band and it make me wanna listen again some other that I already know 🖤. (Sorry for my English, I'm french).
Thanks for the kind words! I've gone from making these mostly for my own entertainment to having a lot of viewers quite quickly, and it's been wonderful seeing the reaction to the last few videos. I hope you enjoy some of the bands you found on the list! And there will be more goth coming to the channel soon, along with some other genres I've yet to cover :)
Love this. Twin tribes started me down a rabbit hole starting in Texas and working my way south. Monitor,Gloory Hole(yes it’s a band and my fav) and La Texana to start. Leonora Post Punk
Thanks for the suggestion! I remember some witch house artists from a while ago like Salem and Crystal Castles, but haven't kept up very well on any newer ones. Are there certain ones you recommend checking out?
incredible list, definitely gonna check some of these people out! as a little baby bat myself, I've gotta give a shout out to Twice Dark! partially cause he's a family friend, mostly cause he's crazy talented! darkwave, industrial, goth vibes all around. personal favorite is Pagan Disco.
I recently found your channel, and I love your extensive research, & music recommendations, thank you!!! I would love to see a video of yours covering Post-Hardcore!
Thank you for watching!! I do like post-hardcore, so that would be a fun topic. Even if it isn't the official pick for next month, I'll definitely be covering it!
Just discovered your channel and this is exactly the thing i like, thanks for all these awesome new goth band suggestions - there is so much more to Goth than Sisters of Mercy and great that these are all new ❤ I’ve seen Creeper live once before and am going to see them again in a few weeks, highly recommended!!!!
Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you like what you've seen so far! I've not had a chance to see Creeper live, or any of the bands on this list, actually, so I'm a bit envious, lol. Based on what I've seen on RUclips, it looks like they put on a great show!
This is a terrific video, like a friend passing on a great mix-tape, gonna have fun checking these bands out. Also look for Frozen Autumn and Pleasure Symbols, not new on the scene but not often spoken about, great material.
I love that way of putting it :) Honestly, I'd been thinking about doing a channel for years and didn't know for sure what I should do it on. Then I realised most of my time online was researching/talking about music, and most of my close friends were getting tired of the constant music recs. Then I knew what my topic should be :D
I don't know if She Past Away would be beyond the age limit you were discussing, but I have noticed I am hearing more bands with that style coming out these days I am really enjoying them. You certainly mentioned some groups on that list, and some others I am definitely going to be checking out. I just wanted to name a few that were not on the list that I have discovered recently, that are less than ten years old. Fearing Octavian Winters Ashes Fallen Vosh False Figure Minuit Machine Soft Vein Scary Black Matte Blvck 4dversary This Eternal Decay And there's a couple that were short lived that should not have been In Letter Form Holygram And probably more leaning industrial here, but they have been touring with Clan of Xymox and seem to be receiving very positive feedback is, Curse Mackey, and his partner, Rona, who has her own project that is called SINE which is really good.
@@ZetaReticuli_ Thanks for sharing these, you listed quite a few I haven’t heard yet! Yeah, She past Away would’ve made the list if they weren’t just around for a little too long.
@@eclecticism-uk And thank you for doing this list, I love how you covered them. You earned my subscription as you helped me expand my music library. I can't believe though that I forgot to mention Darkways in my list.
@@ZetaReticuli_ Thanks for subscribing! I've got another video that is partially goth bands coming up soon, although less of a focus on new bands. I keep hearing Darkways mentioned, but still haven't listened.... Okay, fine, I'm adding them right now, haha! Cheers.
Great overview on modern Goth/Darkwave artists. Consider the following acts for the next instalment - In Letter Form from the US, Talk To Her (Italy), Deathtrippers (UK), Golden Age Of Nothing (UK) and of course us - The Scarlet Hour (UK). We’ve had over 3k views on our video for Torment, released our debut album Warnings last year on vinyl and released our 2nd EP Pursuit.
Thanks! This was such a good video. You should check out lifeless past. They're a really great Dutch goth band who have been making some amazing stuff lately.
I've not heard them yet, but will definitely check them out! Glad to come across someone else who likes The Cold Field, since I've not heard nearly enough conversation about them.
@eclecticism-uk Thanks for introducing me to them, I'm Australian but I'd not heard of them before. Yes, definitely check out FP, I'm sure you'll like them.
Im 47 , live in Munich , during 👑 lockdown I found all these amazing new bands and since then I’m in total revival! ❤️🔥 I watched slowdive, kontravoid,Traitrs! Wonderful! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I'll definitely be doing some more on goth, including some that aren't just the newest bands... although they'll be mixed in with lots of other genres, since my taste is all over the map :D Yes, Drab Majesty is one of my very favourites of the modern bands, and would've talked about them and She Past Away if I hadn't given myself the "2013 and later" restriction.
Great list, Boy Harsher is definitely one of my favs. I'm surprised you didn't mention Mareux though. On a side note, I'd like to recommend Sad Madona, a darkwave artist from France who I'm acquainted with. He's a good dude, very humble, as well as an up-and-coming artist in the genre. At least that's what I reckon
Actually, I'd totally missed out on Mareux until just days ago... now that I've started listening, I'm really enjoying him! Thanks for sharing Sad Madona, I just found him on streaming, so I'll check out some of his singles. Cheers!
To this day I still listen and blast Type O Negative but I also enjoy other bands… my friend and I use to go to the goth clubs all the time and miss all the sounds from then.. so I love this video because now I have new bands to check out. I made my list and will pull them up now. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment, I hope you enjoy some of the bands on here you haven't heard! Yeah, Type O Negative is great, often imitated but never matched. They're also perfect music for the lead up to Halloween, too.
Haunt Me is a GEM! You should check them out if you haven’t already. Thanks for the list. Really enjoyed checking out The Cold Field and Pesadilla Gris! 🙌
Thank you for this! I am such a fan of the goth 80's melancholy music genre and have found a great deal of bands like this on Spotify (some of yours as well)! I am so glad this type of music is making a comeback! Have you also heard of Sacred Skin and Topographies?
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, pretty much everything that feels dark and 80's inspired is a great combo for me, too, from goth to death rock to synth pop. I recently started listening to Topographies thanks to a comment on this video, but I've still not hear Sacred Skin. Thanks for the rec, I'll check them out!
Try: Hapax, Ash Code, Talk To Her, Geometric Vision, The Second Still, Creux Lies, The Expoloding Boy, Actors, The Agnes Circle, Cut City, Delphine Coma, The Foreign Resort, Whispering Sons, Under The Skin, Specters, Clan Of Xymox, Traitrs, Ist Ist, Silent Runners, Ritual Howls, She Past Away, Principe Valiente, Iamtheshadow etc...... Not all new bands but still going strong
Lots of new bands to check out on this list. Thanks for the suggestions. :) Mine is more of an industrial metal goth band, but I definitely suggest people check out Ludovico Technique. Their stuff is killer and the lead singer is super nice to chat with. :D I'd probably suggest Dommin too, even though they formed in 1999 they didn't release anything until 2010; but they really sound like Tiger Army and I love it.
Informative video. Always looking for new music in this genre. I find goth and darkwave can sound samey , samey at times , so I feel good songwriting, is even more important in the genre. My top artists are Actors, Cold Cave, Zola Jesus and most definitely Boy Harsher. Glad you mentioned House of Harm, being from Boston, have seen them 3 times and feel their song writing has improved quite a bit. I’ve just discovered an artist called Silent Mass, a bit shoegaze as well as goth.
Ooh, that's a good list. I thought about Cold Cave and Zola, but both had been around too long for this particular topic... but I'm sure I'll cover more goth and goth-adjacent artists in the future. Somehow I'd actually never come across Actors until I started seeing their name in these comments. I'm not sure how that happened... actually, I suspect when people have mentioned them I've assumed they were talking about Actress, who I've been a fan of for a long time. Now that I've started listening, I'm really enjoying them. And Silent Mass makes gorgeous music... I'm listening to their debut for the first time right now and can already tell I'm gonna be into this.
sorry this comment refers to ‘undiscovered or influential but forgotten 80s Goth’ but in 1986 England ,a cool nipper in our pub lent me an album with Chinese or Soviet Communist Party cover art & the sound inside was for its time was absolutely nuts - where Rockabilly met Industrial. i think the band was one guy called Foetus / Scraping Foetus & the album was titled Hole & released in 84,85 or 86. when i1st heard NiN many years after as an out of touch grandpa,i immediately recalled a track on Hole called “I’ll meet you in Poland Baby” from a decade before the 1st NiN album. 🙄👍❤️🐢👽
I saw Rosegarden Funeral Party for the first time this year, and after years of being a fan (I first heard them years ago on Communion After Dark) it was worth the wait. They have the coveted "Mr IndustrialPants Seal of Approval".
There's this band from Mexico City called Stranger and Lovers. They play a blend of post punk, dark wave and even some EBM in their albums. If you're looking for something that sounds straight out of a vampire club, this is the band for you. Songs: Death song, Masochistic love, Atado junto a ti, and Blood dance
Some other bands to check out: Nox Novacula Kentucky Vampires ACTORS A Cloud of Ravens Zanias Erich Zann's Excess Winter Severity Index TR/ST Lone Assembly Hapax Sacred Skin Secret Shame
I saw Creeper a couple of weekends ago opening for Twin Temple followed the next night by Al1ce, Night Ritualz, Wingtips and Urban Heat (who I've seen play with Vision Video and Twin Tribes off your list) Great list, I'll have to check into the bands I haven't heard or seen off your list
Black Doldrums - Love them. Also: Then Comes Silence, Agent Side Grinder and Sounds Like Winter - three bands whose albums are masterpieces. Strangers, Inner Noises and Porcelain are three respective awesome tracks that I can recommend as starters.
Twin Tribes and Boy Harsher are my favorite bands on this list, their songs are so addictive and eargasmic. I think Pendulum is probably the best album of the year.
I want to mention Deine Lakaien - a German band, singing mostly in English. They are around for more than 30 years now and are so good. A lot of others, I missed on the list are already mentioned. Deine Lakaien are pretty popular in the US too judging by US goth I talked to. Another band, I really love is Rezurex, I think, they are from the US. But they fall more into the horrorpunk category, I think. Some bands from your list, I didn't know before, so thank you for new recomendations :)
Thanks for all the great comments! A problem with one person trying to do a video every two weeks (especially when the videos take a lot of editing like these) is that you make some mistakes. Thankfully some of you have pointed them out so I can correct them here:
At best, industrial was influenced a bit by goth in the 80's, and didn't cause as big of a shift as my wording implies.
@@lunarabenherz Oh thanks! I was mostly joking, but I actually did not know that the accent is on the final syllable.

@@ianmesssenger991 Hey, stop being good, we'll stop talking about you ! ;)
"Then comes silence" and "She past away" should definitely be presented too! ...and "The KVB"...and "Preoccupations"...✌️
Preoccupations is really good! And She Past Away is a favourite for me, although they've been around a little bit too long to have fit with the theme for this one.
I'm 48 and was a small town 90's goth. I only know of two of those bands. Thanks for the new bands to check out ❤
Wonderful, I'm glad I was able to find quite a few that'll be new to you!
Thanks for including us! Hope you love In Limerence :)
Been obsessed with Actors from Canada, Vision Video, Urban Heat, Vandal Moon, Drab Majesty.
Actors is quite good! Out of these, I've never heard Vandal Moon, so I'll have to check them out. Is there an album you'd recommend starting with?
Leathers is quite good
Drab majesty is freakin legit
Drab Majesty opened for Blaqk Audio and I really loved how powerful their stuff is.
Ritual Howls!
@@eclecticism-uk Yes please!
@@eclecticism-uk Note that TR/ST and Male Tears are not goth/darkwave, they are electronic/electropop/synthpop. I don't know about some of the others.
@@eclecticism-uk both you and OP- check out Darkways. Definite actual darkwave, very new. and very good.

Thanks, and thanks for sharing your music! I've been checking it out and enjoying
Thank you. Sexual Purity is also a fun band I discovered while listening to Boy Harsher.
Mareux, Casket Cassette, Steintor Herrenchor, Closed tear, She Passed Away and Nuovo Testemento are some of my favorites not mentioned. I love that this sound is taking off so much. Got some new ones to check out from this video. Thank you!
Ohh Nuovo Testemento is a wonderful choice❤

I also wanted to suggest Mareux, love his work!

Same here. Definitely my favourite dark wave group.
Boy Harsher is an awesome band. I heard then admit 1 year ago and fell in love with their music.
Traitrs, A Cloud Of Ravens, Cold Cave, VNV Nation, Ritual Howls: Playlist gold!
Traitrs is my jam!
Ravens! 🙌
VNV Nation is not goth. They are synthpop, EBM, etc.
@@chameleon47 This post doesn't say they're goth.
But some popular songs from that decade are:
- Hombre Lobo en París by La Unión
- Tren al Sur by Los Prisioneros
- El Velo by Estados Alterados
Soda stereo is an awesome 80's band. I found out of them due to my ex wife. 🤮
Dark wave, post punk, even if it's new junk, it's still rock 'n' roll to me. (and it's all good!)
@@ValEGwangi this deserves more likes. Cheers!

Some bands I would add or would like to have mentioned are:
1. Nox Novacula
2. The Kentucky Vampires
3. (Lesbian Bed Death) Not really a new name but the lineup was essentially fully refreshed with new faces
4. Ludovico Technique
5. Pagefire
6. Sonsombre
7. Velvet Mist
8. Vlad in Tears
9. Whispering Sons
10.Aeon Sable
@eclecticism-uk dude, for deathrock, I highly recommend Detoxi, Cult Strange, Head Cut, Tears For The Dying, and Medusa Stare.
Thanks for all the recs. Now I have a bunch of new albums to munch my way through
Molchat Doma is awesome! Their "What's in my Bag" at Amoeba is fantastic.
Hey, thanks for the info. I enjoyed learning about those bands. Apart from Molchat Doma, Kaelan Mikla and Boy Harsher those were all new to me.
Awesome, I'm glad you found some new ones on the list! I hope you enjoy some of the new ones.
Cheers!
Twin Tribes came to San Antonio on Super Bowl Sunday, and the add read "bring your best superb owl"😆🤣
Selofan is my personal favorite out of the modern goth groups. This is a great mix. I love House of Harm and Boy Harsher.
Void Vision - dark wave synth magic. A lot of vintage synths sounds and great vox
True Body - goth rock/coldwave.
Oh yeah, that's such a good remix! Alli's vocals sound great over that minimal synth. That's another one I've put on several mixes.

some other bands to add to the other suggestions here, these bands are dark but not necessarily goth 😇throat, crows, coughin vicars, health, a.a williams, blood red shoes, chelsea wolfe, fourth dominion, unto others

I know several people have mentioned bands they'd like to add to your list and here are mine (I know this list was limiting the bands to 10 years, and some in my list may be a bit older):
Creux Lies
DARK
Then Comes Silence
Nox Novacula
Doors in the Labyrinth
Delusions of Madness
Pass/Ages
Gulf Blvd
Panic Priest
Thanks for the kind words! Nox Novacula is quite good, but you have a lot of others on here I've not heard yet, so I'll have to add them to my list. One thing I love about doing this type of video is that you can get a little introduction from the bands in the video, but then the comments section captures a huge range of what's going on in the genre, and gives you so much more to explore.

Love this. Twin tribes started me down a rabbit hole starting in Texas and working my way south. Monitor,Gloory Hole(yes it’s a band and my fav) and La Texana to start. Leonora Post Punk
I've not heard of any of these others, actually. Thanks for sharing them!
Suggestion for future video, look into the modern goth world of witch house and related dark electronic genres
Great content…thx.. I remember a DJ always played the band breeding ground..song called ‘this time tomorrow’& epic.happy now i know!!
Fearing
Octavian Winters
Ashes Fallen
Vosh
False Figure
Minuit Machine
Soft Vein
Scary Black
Matte Blvck
4dversary
This Eternal Decay
And there's a couple that were short lived that should not have been
In Letter Form
Holygram
And probably more leaning industrial here, but they have been touring with Clan of Xymox and seem to be receiving very positive feedback is, Curse Mackey, and his partner, Rona, who has her own project that is called SINE which is really good.
Cheers.
@@eclecticism-uk I am looking forward to that video. 👍
Love Vision Video great show in Seattle
Thanks! I now have several new bands to check... Suggestion: Whispering Sons from Belgium
Thanks for sharing some other new bands! I'll check these out, and I'm trying out your debut as well :)
You had me at Vision Video! All hail, Goth Dad! ❤
Have you heard the Spotify compilation he put together called Coffin Candy-the Best of Goth Pop?
Thanks! This was such a good video. You should check out lifeless past. They're a really great Dutch goth band who have been making some amazing stuff lately.
@@annethropophagy Thanks for the kind words, and for the recommendation! I’ve never heard them, so I’lll check them out.
The Cold Oi movement coming out of France right now is definitely worth checking out. Syndrome 81 is a great band to start with.
Good video and thanks for pointing out some bands that have missed my Radar.. Liked and subscribed
@@JONINXBOX Thanks for the kind words and for subscribing, I hope you enjoy the new bands!
Great list. I especially love Chain Cult and The Cold Field. My favourite recent discovery are French Police, from Chicago.
Wonderful! Next concerts: molchat Doma,Twin tribes, she past away, DIIV, french police, Lebanon Hannover soooo looking forward 🖤🥳 I absolutely love Drab Majesty Mareux & Minuit Machine & Sidney Valette and it goes on and on There are MANY! Make part 2 😉Gr8 video! Thank u 🖤
Cheers!
@@eclecticism-uk Great! I hope some of the tracks meet your expectations
@@eclecticism-uk long time ago my friend and I seen then in concert for Halloween. It was amazing! I miss Pete and the band.
You saw them at a Halloween show? Ah, I bet that was amazing! They're one of the many, many bands I wish I would've seen live when I had a chance.
I loveee twin tribes. A couple of other goth/darkwave artists I would recommend are French police & harsh symmetry
Mine is more of an industrial metal goth band, but I definitely suggest people check out Ludovico Technique. Their stuff is killer and the lead singer is super nice to chat with. :D
I'd probably suggest Dommin too, even though they formed in 1999 they didn't release anything until 2010; but they really sound like Tiger Army and I love it.
Goth is alive and kicking which I thought could not resurrect in the post 2020 era
Been looking for new goth bands. God send
Wonderful, I hope you find some on here that you get really into!
Some other bands to check out:
Nox Novacula
Kentucky Vampires
ACTORS
A Cloud of Ravens
Zanias
Erich Zann's Excess
Winter Severity Index
TR/ST
Lone Assembly
Hapax
Sacred Skin
Secret Shame
Nox Novacula is definitely one of my current favorites. They are sooo good!
Kentucky Vampires are sooooo good!
@@westonvirginia6458 Their latest LP is outstanding!
@@brqh3gre Yeah, I got my friend, who's more of a metal head, into them. I hope they're working on a new LP.
A cloud of ravens and Nox novacula 💯
Distant Stares: love disappears
She Past Away: Kasvetli Kutlama
Love this. For the bump I wish Urban Heat was in the mix.
Thanks for the rec! I've seen their name come up before, so clearly now's the time to check them out. Cheers!
@@eclecticism-uk If you have a chance to see them on tour, jump at it. Their live shows are fantastic.
I recommend to give a listen to those two bands:
- moonvampire from Kazakhstan
- Hangwire from Uruguay
❤
I love Deine Lakaien but they are definitely not for everybody...
Have you heard of the band Rome??
@@delicateBruise I have, but they are not my cup of tea.
Heartworms is an excellent up-and-coming band. Their debut full length is being released in February
