After she parallel parked in front of the barber shop, I fell out of the car, though I was not seriously hurt at all or upset. I then noticed she was crying (presumably from the reports on the radio) and everybody along this briskly busy shopping street across from the Newton Center, MA MBTA station were milling about in a somber, sad stupor. I remember asking what happened and I’m sure the answer was to the effect that President Kennedy was shot and it’s serious, but I don’t think I was able to comprehend the meaning or significance of those words at that age, though I did recognize the oddly zombie-like shocked reactions of really everybody.

The 9/11 attacks were terrible and a lot of people died, but I could not really feel as deeply about it and worried there was something wrong with me. I asked a friend who was a counselor. She said she had already talked to others who were like me. She said we were children in a time when we saw things no one should have seen or some had lived through war and had the same reaction. It wasn't that I was not feeling anything in fact I was very upset. I remember people saying that they had not experienced anything like that and it was the first time they had not felt safe. I have tried to be hopeful. In today's world it is really hard. It was announced that the plane carrying his body would land at Andrew’s Air Force Base around 6pm that night. We were all huddled around the old TV set and then the door opened. We saw her covered with blood holding the hand of Robert Kennedy. The American public seating the harsh realty of the violence that had been unleashed on our President. The films taken by Abraham Zapruter were not realized until 1967 by Life Magazine and we saw the true horror of what she witnessed first hand. May she rest in eternal peace such a role model.

I think that was extremely callous. As much as the fact that Kennedy was killed in cold blood, his blood was barely cold when Johnson took the oath. I could never understand that because he had nothing to prove - he automatically became the president anyway. I lived through this horrendous time in our history. The streets that Friday with people either hysterically crying or in dead silence. No cell phones or instant news. It was announced that the plane carrying his body would land at Andrew’s Air Force Base around 6pm that night. We were all huddled around the old TV set and then the door opened. We saw her covered with blood holding the hand of Robert Kennedy. The American public seating the harsh realty of the violence that had been unleashed on our President. The films taken by Abraham Zapruter were not realized until 1967 by Life Magazine and we saw the true horror of what she witnessed first hand. May she rest in eternal peace such a role model.
After this the USA have changed and lost their innocence...

I still to this day dont know how she remained so calm about everything after the assassination. I would of been in absolute shock and the public wouldnt of seen me ever again.

Both assassins received money from third party connections. Oswald was originally planning on moving to Havana after his marriage to his wife started falling apart. His passport was denied. I think that was extremely callous. As much as the fact that Kennedy was killed in cold blood, his blood was barely cold when Johnson took the oath. I could never understand that because he had nothing to prove - he automatically became the president anyway. And there is every chance that he was behind the Kennedy assassination, and if that's true, then that is truly sad, especially when he had Jackie standing right beside him and if I'm correct, he requested himself that she be there when he took the oath. In all honesty, I'm not sure if Johnson was behind the Kennedy assassination, although there are those who are of the firm conviction that he was, but I think he must have at least known about it. I always found it odd how Johnson took the oath practically when Kennedy's heart was still beating and probably between the realms of earth and the Afterlife. And I also wonder if Kennedy had suspected anything himself, because if it was an inside job, which it clearly looks to be the case, then how did they manage to keep this from Kennedy, the man himself - the head of state.
As cold-hearted as it may sound, the government had to keep functioning and the country had to go on. The swearing in had to be done so the reins of power were passed smoothly. Nor did LBJ make Jackie attend, she was asked if she wanted to and replied "Yes. In the light of history, it would be better if I were there." Nor was JFK's heart still beating - the extent of his injury meant he was killed more or less instantly. Doctors did attempt resuscitation at Parklands Hospital, but they were working on a corpse, and he was declared dead soon afterwards.
