The tree photo is magic.
Thank you! It's amazing how fog can make a difference. I probably wouldn't have noticed that tree on a clear day.
Thanks Brenda - best thing is to have a location in mind and then wait a foggy day!
Thank you once again for your brave experience! Seeing you out there braving the weather as you try to get a good shoot in such an unpredictable weather condition is a class in itself. Thank you again. I'm really amazed at the fact that you seem to be going on these trips all by yourself!
I've watched a lot of photography videos, & I am pleased to say I enjoy yours more than most. I am not new to photography, and I am not by any stretch a young man; but I must say your presentations are so easy to follow; so detailed in your descriptions and your personality so pleasant, I'm happy to have come across your channel. Keep up your good work. You have a great eye and you are a good tea her.
Love your commitment and enthusiasm Brenda.
Brenda hi just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for your videos . I have just got into photography so very much a beginner. I love the way you are able to communicate your love and enthusiasm for photography and make it enjoyable and easy to understand what it is your are trying to get over. Keep up the good work.
That's great! I'm really glad to hear that. Best of luck with getting started in photography and feel free to drop me questions along the way.
Thank you for these vids. I live in Newfoundland so I expect our weather experiences would be much the same as we photograph the outdoors.
Hoping for a good summer!
Here's hoping! :) We are already into some spring weather here - seems as though we are in for an early season. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a big snow storm this month though! Newfoundland is gorgeous - definitely on my bucket list!
Recently I have gone through your video and all the videos are really helpful . Keep up your great works. Thanks
Another great video Brenda, The pictures of the tree with the fog in the background was great, But the picture of the lake with the little stream and rocks in the foreground and the mountains in the background was Absolutely Stunning.
Really it's an excellent photography classes which is very much helpful for me. You are a great teacher for Landscape photography. I loved it very well. Thank you so madam carry on with your best and helpful experience and knowledge. Thanks a million once again for your exceptional presentation. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Its so helpful for a beginner like me, knowing things , though i am not in a cold country. its very impressive your tips for landscape and hyper focal techniques. Thank you !
You're welcome! Glad the videos are helpful!
I really love the way you take your photos 😁 You're wandering in the nature
The pet seat protector! Such a good solution, I just started using one as well so I don't have to worry about tossing bag on the seat.
Yes! It works great for my dogs as well ; ).
I love this! Well done! Being up in the mountains in national parks, fog presents the opportunities to get some very dramatic photos of landscapes.
I always pack at least a couple of flashes with me: the upper-end Canon devices I use are tuneable for output, and not only do I carry some different colored gelatin filters for use when I want to “warm up” light of tree foliage, branches, etc in relatively lousy light, I also carry some cut-down pillow cases - white, yellow, orange and red - to put over the flash and further mute light output, but give the light warmer tones. These flash units can be mounted on a fixture which in turn can be mounted on a stick which I’ll use to allow me handsfree operation of the flashes, all triggered by a master transmitter mounted on my camera’s hotshoe.
Love your videos! Very well done.
Hi Brenda, Super video. And I love the Tree photo. You do a great job. Thanks
Thanks so much, Robert!
Loved your video. Great shots!
Hi Brenda, some really nice shots, we get a lot of practice shooting on grey days here in the UK. Really love the way you pass on so much information during your shoots, really reminded me I must do the same when I'm shooting mine!!
Hi Scott - thanks so much! Glad you found the info helpful. I'll check out your channel too!
Hi Brenda, You're my new favorite landscape photography RUclipsr. I just love the videos you make in snowy and foggy weather. They almost make me want to move from South Carolina to Vermont, except that right now our days are in the 60's or so and you're probably sub-zero. Keep the videos coming.
Yay! Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! We are actually *finally* experiencing some spring weather this week - the snow is melting pretty rapidly, which means our streams are full and our roads are a muddy mess. Not the most picturesque time of year here, but things should turn green in the next month or so, hopefully. I bet it is gorgeous down in SC about now!
Lovely composition. When composing shots like that, focus peaking usually comes to my rescue.
My D810 doesn't have that feature. Good to hear that you find it useful!
I did this type of photograph years and years ago with a Pentax 67. Came out nice.
Beautiful composition Brenda. Awesome video!!!🙏
Gorgeous,great video Brenda!
Great fog video. I like the image very much and I also think that the stacked log ends covered with falling snow would have made an interesting photograph. As time passes I’m learning and enjoying your older Blogs.
Thanks for watching them! I'm excited to get back to these types of videos once I'm done with my PhotoPills Friday series.
Good luck with your project to re connect. Good, videos, very helpful for photo newbies like me!
Great! I'm glad to hear that! Thanks for tuning in :).
terrific video. great instruction and beautiful photos. congratulation! loved it!
Thanks so much, Rachel!
Hei Brenda , great video , i found it very informatif and the picture of the tree is beautiful . Thank you
Thanks so much, Mark!
Very interesting indeed.
Thank you.
Great!!!
Thanks for the video Brenda. You got a new subscriber.
Awesome! Thanks, Jim! :)
Congrats! Great work.
Thanks so much!
That tree shot is pristine.
Hi Brenda just found your channel I love the snow and the intimate shots with the water falls are gorgeous I'm from the UK and travel to Scotland to get the right conditions which is a 9 hour drive but if I can shoot anything like yours then it will be worth it I like the fun element you put into your photography as well as the Great image's happy new year and keep safe
We get a fair amount of fog in the mountains of South Carolina. I like to shoot woodlands in the fog as it can help reduce the chaos of the woods. Shooting old wooden bridges lined by trees is also a great fog subject. You have probably seen Simon Baxter's videos on foggy woodlands but if not, they are excellent. I wish we got snow but it is very infrequent here. I just found your channel and have subscribed.
Thanks, Philip! I may be heading to SC later this month for the first time. I hear it is beautiful! I haven't checked out Simon Baxter's videos - thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to check them out. Have fun photographing fog!
Love your video! And that you are from Vermont!!!
Thanks! Glad you loved it! Stay tuned for more! :)
Great Pic of that tree!!!! I like your style and now you've got a new follower! Greets from Berlin 👋👋👋
Wunderbar! Vielen dank! :)
thank you good Info....................:)
Thank you, Bob!
Amazing video.
Got a new sub Brenda! :)
Great! Thank you!
That was very helpful, thanks for putting this together. It would be also helpful if you could, when you add the picture to include the data for the picture (ISO, f/stop, exposure). Thank you.
Great video nice
A woman after my own heart! And yes annoyed with myself for doing it but once did a shoot like this and clean forgot the power lines ! Oh well you live and learn, I have a pic well a few like your tree one will try add it on here as my profile pic so you can see it. Will be subscribing to you too, all the best from the UK.
Thank you for you video. I enjoyed seeing the process you were going through to compose your image. I particularly liked the image with the tree. What precautions do you take with your equipment in cold weather?
Hi there - thank you for the feedback! I have been thinking of doing a tutorial about shooting in cold weather, so please stay tuned for that. I've spent some time in the Yukon where it was -35F, and definitely have a few tips to share! One quick tip -prevent condensation by putting your camera in a sealed bag before returning indoors.
My two cents if you spot meter for the snow it should be 18% gray aka zone 5 open up two stops and that should put you in zone 7 white with detail thanks for all yor hard work...cheers
I agree - thanks for commenting!
Love the channel, Thanks! Can you suggest a less expensive polarizing filter?
great video, thank you... my question is if you are not using manual focus where and what would the focus setup be?
Brenda, enjoyed your presentation. I watched you commons on the weather. Just wondering is it worth "exposing" your gear to weather elements for a photo? Question is what effects weather (moisture & sun) other environmental effects have on your gear.. Hope to see a discussion in the future.
👏
Hi Brenda, just stumbled across your channel and really enjoyed the video. Amazing location and great images. With regards to subscribing.... I’m in👍🏻
That's great! Thanks so much, Peter!
Great video. I live in Naples Florida, we don't get snow or even different colors to photograph. And how many times can you photograph an alligator?
hi Brenda!! Nice video. Just one comment, having your subject that far away, it is not necessary you to bring the diaphragm to f14..... even f6,3 would serve you. Besides you avoid the potential difraction issue. best regards
great!
any tips to avoid damage camera/lens from fog, condensation, temperature etc? (beside covering it)
¿maybe i can use heating belts, or something similar?
i a bit new in this
Hi Brenda, just discovered your channel and I have watched a few videos so far. Nice job! Question about the first photo in this vlog--the isolated tree. I am curious why you chose f14 for this image. It seems that given the distance to the subject that you could maintain sharp focus down to at least f8 or possibly even lower. Was there a creative reason for selecting f14? I am not experienced shooting in fog, but normally my instincts would say to use a wider aperture for this type of composition. I am interested in your reasoning. Thanks.
Hi Jeff - thanks so much, I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the videos. You are a very keen observer! There really isn't a good reason as to why I used f/14, other than that is my go to landscape photography aperture - it's my usual starting place. That said, most of my compositions usually include some element of foreground, which this shot did not, so using f/8 or f/11 should have worked just fine. It wasn't a windy day, so using a slower shutter speed (to accommodate a larger aperture) should have been ok.
OK, I"m in Walla Walla, Washington and just before going to sleep it's 25˚ outside with 5' of snow. I wake up in the morning to go to work. It's 58˚, there is almost NO snow on the ground and now there are rivers everywhere. It's called a Chinook Wind. Temperatures can change 50˚ in 2 hours. It was a trip!!!!!
Sounds crazy and cool!
Great video. Whenever I get excited about taking photos of fog, I'm almost always disappointed with the result because it seems like the camera doesn't really show the fog. Does that make sense? To the eye, it can look very foggy but when you take a photo, it looks a lot less foggy. Any idea why that happens and how I can overcome it?
Brenda, At 7:40 into the video would it not have been wise to use a lens hood when it was snowing on your lens??
I just discovered your channel. We need more female Photog RUclipsrs, so thank you for your video! Being in Oregon, I sometimes wonder what's happening on the East Coast as far as photography, lol. If you're ever interested in photographing the Pacific Northwest (PNW), I can show you around! I'm following you on Instagram now :)
Thanks, Candae! I thought so too, which is partly why I thought, what the heck - I should make some videos! It's been a lot of fun so far. I'd love to photograph the PNW sometime! I'll reach out if I'm ever out that way. Be sure to let me know if you come East!
Don’t you think that the image of the mountain Gap at the lake (In the fog video) Is totally Unbalanced? I do understand that you were freezing.
I probably would have taken several different compositions if the weather was more cooperative and I wasn't freezing. That was the one shot so I shared it.
You can't use exposure compensation in manual mode.
Yep - you are absolutely right. I should have switched to shutter priority or aperture priority to demonstrate that better. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for catching that!
679 ...
Great, a photog and female who isn't from the UK.
:) Thanks, Jeff! Glad to hear I can add something new.
I know right. It’s nice to see another US female photography vlogger.
Jeff Nielsen Lol
Why did you centre the tree, oooo.
Video very good, but the sound is all over the place.
What the hell is un polarized?
Old trick: If you don’t have enough fog,,, you can lightly breathe on your lens to get a bit more of fog…
spent more time adjusting my volume then wathcing the video, up & down , then a speaker blast, had to stop halfway through, lost interest
