    As a Kiwi i think we need to integrate with our Aussie neighbors in defence matters.
    Set up a Marine Corp type unit and do away with having three management systems for the different forces and trim management to a minimum.
    We could be so much more efficient integrated effectively with Aussie and that can only worl out well for both countries. Any future conflict in the south pacific will see us working closely again. Get the ball in motion now.

Why not develop a niche industry gor defense with our track record of innovation rather than try to punch above our weight and still not have an effective fighting force. The reason Australia has a better trading relationship with India and the USA is because it has committed to having better military capability. That is what has been missing for NZ. Our Navy has a Labour shortage, we have a ratio of 40% officers and 60% ranks (officers working in offices and ranks working.) Due to Austerity measures the Navy now has a budjet deficit of $150 Million Dollars.
      what do the high ranking offers do? - they with their 6 figure incomes, cut pay to the ranks, fire contractors, and reduce future rank intake capacity. all while Australia is increasing their military budget and offering double the pay for our rank sailours
      It's not the fact we can't afford to run the millitairy and Healthcare properly. Its the fact we have too many middle managers (i.e. we have 141 commanders with 9 ships to command (8 now that HMNZS manawanui's hit a reef )
      and those managers make life a living hell for the people actually doing the work in order to keep their 6 figures and stable paper shuffling jobs.

    New Zealand should think about integrating their defence force with the Australian Defence Force. An example of this is the Dutch Army integrating into the German Army. Some Australian jet fighters could be stationed at New Zealand bases. NZ infantry could be trained to use Australian weapon systems such as the boxer IFV, Himars etc that are coming soon. Australia would benefit from getting a manpower boost and NZ would become better protected.

    @kcharles8857 7 дней назад +1

    Constitutionally, New Zealand can become an Australian state whenever it wishes. Multiple benefits to be had. Just think, unbeatable national rugby team. Final solution to the Pavlova origin issue. Mutual condemnation of Greg Chappell. NZ becomes a Continent. Australians finally get to do Hakkas. NZ becomes Australia's 3rd biggest state. The New Zealand Defense Force can stop pretending it's a thing. Australia gets Peter Jackson, Russel Crowe, and Flight of the Conchords. Australia's land area will increase by a little bit. AND, Australians will legitimately allowed to say sux instead of six and not be accused of cultural appropriation.

    Our Navy needs a major shake up & investment. Yes, we're a small nation but look at our economic exclusion zone, its massive just over 4 million square miles or 15 x the size of NZ. We need sailors and need to pay them a decent income, once we do that then we can man our existing ships, then we need more modern ships South Korean made ships would be suitable, our Seasprites need to be replaced with American made seahawks to have them compatible with Australian/US Navy systems.

    • @TyreseSummers

    We need to get the fk out of the 5 EYES and and stop sticking our noses into other countries business on behalf of the US. We need to beef up our Navy and Airforce in order that they can protect our economic zone. Our army needs to stay at home and become adept and skilled at defending NZ on our own soil. We need compulsory national service for our young people in order that we sort out discipline in society and to provide numbers for homeland defense should we need it.

    • @martinsmith4866
      @martinsmith4866 13 дней назад

      We can’t beef up our army via our tiny economy. So if we have these options
      1. Agree to stay 5 eyes & have no real say in things & hope the other 5 eyes partners act in our interests @ at least defend us if under attack. It’s delusional to think we can donor without help.
      2. Go it alone, ditch 5 eyes & stay with a tinpot military & hope everything somehow ends up ok (you could call this the (Simpson’s Defence Theory)
      3. Become a neutral country so no military alliances and follow Switzerland model - but I understand this also means you may have to take political exiles etc
      4. Stay in 5 eyes @ agree to have Australia to effectively take over subsume of our Military forces with the guarantee a large slice of the total forces will always be directed towards NZ - this multiplying our defence capabilities by a factor of say 5 to twenty fold. You might call this a “deal with the devil”
