    Paul Keating. Never before, never again. How privileged am I to have lived through the Keating era. How loudly do I proclaim that he is my biggest inspiration, my hero.

    Paul Keating, one of the great Australians. Regrettably today there is no one to match him.

    What's amazing about Keating is that he has a mind as rigorous as any intellectual yet he left school at 14.........wouldn't get a guy like him nowadays

    • @pablononpicasso1977
      @pablononpicasso1977 8 лет назад +3

      Why not? In a country outside of here you would likely get someone with the nous and street cred to educate themselves, like say in Africa where mostly you don't have the options as we do here. My father finished high school at 13 in 1931, which was the norm in the countryside, but he applied himself and got somewhere. It was a different era.

      Paul Denne trouble is everybody has to be seen as “educated” as on gone to uni otherwise they just write you off

    He and Barry Humphries are the two greatest contributors to the country.

    To a point it is unfortunate that this discussion is bogged down in history on the basis of geography and nationalisms. Forward thinking, the future, of the ideal kind would be more in terms of the world as one.

    I could not be more in agreement with Paul with regards to the carbon tax. I skimmed some of the legislation and (I’m no accountant) but it seemed like a super profits tax. IE. The business is going so well indeed. I think the super profit tax makes a lot of sense. They couldn’t have sold free ice creams on a warm arvo.

    • @lloydsingline340

      I disagree with that.I liked Hawke and Keating and Keating worked well with both Hawke and Bill Kelty to bring the much needed changes to advance the Australian economy into the rapidly changing world.

      Why would he be insecure?He made necessary changes to assist with Australia's disadvantage of being isolated from European trade and promoted Australia in the Asian region ( ASEAN ).Keating was a leader with foresight.No one compares to him from today's self centred politicians.
