Such a relevant topic given the impacts of social media on mental health driven by feelings of inadequacies.

I feel the discussion @ 25:00, we as humans are ultimately seeking power which coincides with the reasoning behind taking a title change over away raise in a job.

"The more you hang out with your rich neighbors, the unhappier you are..." some of the most interesting people I have met were not rich, and I would risk criticism to say that talking to wealthy people (Bezos, Trump, ..) would be boring because they have specialized in their field so much and
excluded themselves of what the common person experiences.

I always think of status as demonstrating your fitness to mate. Schopenhauer wrote about Will powering everything but from a human ape point of view I have always seen it as 'Mate with me, I'll take care of you'
However after you spawn and birth and raise your kids, what is the point?
It seems like status is a rut, along term habit...to continue to count coup as we age into Forgetville.
But i do think we do not want to acknowledge our status thoughts, wasn't Vance Packard's 'The Status Seekers' one of the last big ones.

Currently the virtue game of Wokeism is trying to say the world should not have success games and the only virtue success games that should exist are the ones that agree with their moral script.

Do status instincts cause the creation of value hierarchies and/or social credit? Are there deeper levels to status instincts that are more permanent regardless of the environment?

  • @dangold6381
    @dangold6381 2 года назад

    So true.
Joke (or is it?) alert: Stop obsessing about your Status -so we will have another less person in this world, that might threaten ours somehow. Even one (Humanity) divided by 8 billion - this is a contribution to myself's sense of Superiority. Nano contribution, but still it "position" me in a better, relatively, step of the Global Status Ladder.
We like downfalls stories- also because it makes us feel better about our own weaknesses - which are potential threats to our "given" Status at present.
BTW, defining any person, *any* - as "an asshole" or "ridiculous"
    makes one feel "superior".
    Yours,
    The World Champion in meekness.

TO WIN IN THE STATUS GAME OF LIFE:
Warmth (im not going to play dominance with you)
Sincerity (im gonna be honest with you, I'm gonna say when things are going badly and when they're going well)
Competence (I'm gonna be useful to the group, I'm gonna show skills and you are gonna learn some skills from me)
