My dad also worked with chimps in college and he said they were so creepily human. He said that one of the female ones developed a crush on him. At one point he brought a girl he liked to visit them. The female chimp got extremely irate and violent.
Carole Hooven is as stellar a scientist and intellectual as she is a warm and empathetic person. Simultaneously very impressive and very endearing. Her assessment on transgenderism is not fully in keeping with her scientific beliefs on sex, which are 100% accurate. It is my understanding that she was forced to take a leave from Harvard for holding to the science on the issue of sex and that is completely unacceptable. On another one, Jordan Harbinger is one of the best interviewers ever.
This was a great episode and it saddens me what has happened to our educational institutions. Great job tackling such a sensitive and difficult subject matter.
I love listening to Carole Hooven and try to seek every interview she's done. This host is amazing. He's such an authentic and open guy. He's also a great interviewer. I'm super impressed. Liked and Subscribed!
I *CANNOT BELIEVE* this woman is 56 years old. I already thought she was extremely attractive for someone in their mid 40s, but she's almost 60???? Jesus!
Very informative and delightful guest. Final chapter is chilling in light of all prior historical events where “people turn their backs…people are scared. They are not trying to be mean, they are trying to protect themselves....(against a) small but very vocal minority of people"…increasingly dehumanizing those who don’t obey their narrative…”I’n not sure I see a future within an academic institution”.. is a heartbreaking wake-up call to rethink the power and role given to unhinged wokeism in our institutions.
As a trans man, my experience talking testosterone has been that there has been slight changes in my sex drive & my emotions but the change has been very slight but the there was a huge sense of alignment! Prior to that ever since puberty it felt there was a constant tug of war going on in my body and even before going on testosterone my sex drive, the ways I experienced sexual attraction & levels of aggression were already closer to what we expect of a man than a woman. Estrogen always felt like a poison in my body & testosterone feels like what’s supposed to be there. My personal theory based on both personal experience, antidotal stories from other trans people, as well as actual scientific studies that I’ve read (though there is certainly a lot more research needed in this area) is that someone like me was likely exposed to overly high levels of testosterone in the womb but only after most of the physical sexual differentiation had already happened & that wired my brain in a way that it was expecting more testosterone when I got to puberty but when instead it got estrogen it felt really wrong.
It really is an interesting theory and there could really be something to that. However I'd hesitate to use the way the testosterone makes you feel as a reason to be invested in that theory. Testosterone makes most people feel better--more energy, and less anxiety. Human bodies evolved to respond to testosterone that way.
Biology/body/brain doesn't go out its way to disrupt homeoestasis (artificial hormones stopping your period, atrophying your reproductive organs and exposing risks to cancer and autoimmune diseases), it's actually very self-preserving. Something else is here at play. Gender-craze didn't exist 10 years ago. Women with higher than average testosterone always existed.
@@collyernicholasjohn If it was social contagion then how did I feel born in the wrong body when I was two when I never even heard of anyone else feeling remotely the same way till I was eight?
So grateful to Riley Gaines! I am a Hall of Fame Women's Basketball Player. Title IX opened doors for me to attend college on a full scholarship. I worked HARD for years to rise to the top. Where are women's sports going? I do not care who you love. I care who competes against whom. How much more are women going to lose before we are invisible? Where are the WOMEN? It’s so sad that a few voices must speak for so many! How many women are asking to play in men’s games? Please! This shouldn't even be a conversation. Testosterone for men starts in the womb. Do your research! Look at the scientists who lost their jobs because they spoke out and stated the facts. (Carole Hooven)- she was teaching at Harvard. "Don’t play any game where women aren’t playing against each other. “Let’s call it take a KNEE.” Other athletes took a knee to have their issues addressed. I have three amazing sons. Both my wife and granddaughter wanted to be a boy around eight years of age, now at 25 and 60 they are really glad they we’re not offered “transitioning“ - a journey without the destination of the other, but some kind of halfway house
I wanted to be a girl when I was about 3-5. Well, not really but I always wanted to wear a skirt and would roleplay as girl characters with my friends. I didn't really conceptualise it as being a girl. Very glad my parents were rational and let me grow out of it.
Telling them to stop taking shots when you get emotional, does nothing but encourage that behavior. Dr Peterson feels it the same way, I believe, because he gets emotional about the same things you do.
Both sides of this argument (outside this podcast) have no compassion for anyone but their own feelings. We can come to the middle of this topic through negotiations. There does have to be limits set so parents can't force their children to transition against their will, while also providing the support needed to have the transition available when considering. Also, as pointed out in the podcast, we do not need to lie about biology to justify why people should be able to transition regardless of whether someone else believes you should or not.
Ain't no way u do that to a child regardless that should never even be a option don't you see what they are doing they it's a money maker for big pharma and if they can sterilize them its population control
It looks as though the entire idea behind tenure is failing in modern universities. It also raises questions about how strong modern culture is. How can tenured people that have been made immune in some sense still choose to be cowards? How weak are these people?
1:30:30 This is the most sincere thing you can do in life, to yourself, therefore towards others. Nice way to end. Look closely at the beginning and the end of something, it tells a lot about life puzzles.
1:15:30 you see it alot in war, one rule of law has broke down so man that do want to or maybe social pressure is gone or an authority is not around. Also often there is dehumanizing of the enemy, states have to dehumanizing other states or people's to get people to want to go fight. So I think social conditioning is big on that kinda thing.
As a trans person, I wouldn’t call her transphobic but I would disagree with her that there are only two sexes. Sex is bimodal not binary. Even if we are only looking at gametes as determining biological sex some people produce neither eggs or sperm so clearly even there there are three categories & I think biological sex is better looked at as being made up of 5 or 6 components: chromosomes, gametes, genitals, hormone levels, & secondary sex characteristics. Gender can either be looked at as separate from biological sex or perhaps more actually it should be looked at as a sixth neurological component of biological sex. These different components can occur in more than just two configurations & although some of these things are immutable, many are not.
As a trans man myself, your answer is something along the lines I would say, thanks for putting it into words. I'm a college student too and just finished one of my honors classes in Genetics and realized there's many other variables to look at and to be scientifically accurate, you can't just ignore them. It is in the same way I see people who label intersex people as outliers when pointing at sex is binary - when quite literally their existence is proof sex is NOT binary.
@@collyernicholasjohn There are two poles to a bimodal system but that is not the same as it being binary. The notion of either gender or sex as binary is nothing more than a social construction.
The more I hear you talk about hormones, the more I realize hormones are "exactly" what determines gender, which can be subjective. Sex you can never change. Gender itself is about behavior and thinking, and not about biological sex. Were it not the hormone's replacement there, transition would never seem to be worth it. Surgery can only do so much when it comes to any transition at all, and why many men may not want to have "sexual reassignment" surgery, being gay, want to look and act like women and just tuck it. Hormones have a very big aspect in these transitions.
It's absolutely wild that there is a whole section if society who mock others to "follow the science" while in the same breath, would label this conversation as oppresive bigotry or even anti-tЯаns lol... This episode was super interesting and eye opening too ... Also it was oddly refreshing. I was waiting for a plot twist along of the lines of "i can't define what a woman is because I'm not a biologist" 😅🙄
I don't understand the arguing on either side of the trans issue. From what I've gathered from both arguments, both are right. Sex is based on biology and chromosomes which is valid and gender is based on the ridiculously complex human psyche so also valid. Hormones change your psyche to behave differently but don't change your chromosomes or the physiology enough to change the sex. Trans people are different in ways but why is that a bad thing? People on both sides and trans people who say it's bad should self reflect on why they think being different just like everyone is bad
I totally agree with you. But I think an adult only should make that decision I genuinely know people who would have transitioned when they were a child even wearing the girls school uniform when they were boys but then really they just liked female activities and now they are older they are totally happy being male doing female activities. I also don't think it should be massively taught in primary and early secondary schools. I know teachers who have kids come in changing their pronouns constantly. I know I wouldn't want any pressure on my kids to feel either way I just want them to be kids and then if they come to me because they don't feel okay we can talk about it get help if needed. It's not easier to be trans or gay and I want my kids to have easy life's as much as possible.
