In our first Head2Head, we take a look at Rebor's Killer Queen Plain Variant, and the recently released Nanmu "Alpha" Tyrannosaurus rex figure.
    Which one deserves to reign supreme? Find out on this episode of Head2Head

    Excellent review. I would choose the Nanmu. It comes closest to the W-Dragon 'Rexy', which I choose over these two for at least four reasons: 1) virtually no seam-lines visible (high production standards - also in relation to the different materials used to prevent warping or bending), 2) beautifully statuesque, 3) correct proportions (compare the arms on the W-Dragon 'Rexy' with the wonky, spindly arms on the Rebor, for example), and 4) more realistic detailing, i.e. not over-textured, which would take away from the feeling of scale, or what a real Tyrannosaurus would look like at a distance). The W-Dragon model does have the 'disadvantage' of higher price, though, so the comparison would not be fair, I guess.
    But... if the publicity photographs are anything to go by (nicely beefy and good screen accuracy), the upcoming Nanmu 'buck' Tyrannosaurus rex is going to be a sure buy for me :-)

    I hope there will be a W-Dragon vs Nanmu Spinosaurus contest, it will be very hard to decide between the two, everyone migth have his opinion, but for me there is no clear winner here.

Also I think that Rebor's jungle version looks better than Nanmu's Green one. But in the other hand I think that the plain version it's better in Nanmu's.

Now that I've done it, I might trade out my plain variant for a jungle. I'll also agree that the nanmu green rex doesn't really resemble the bull in my eyes, so perhaps that is one comparison rebor would win.

    Kinda hoping Rebor takes another crack at the JP T. rex one of these days, I think if they really tried they could nail the likeness pretty hard like with their Vanilla Ice and upcoming Crimson King Requiem. The Killer Queen looks less like a proper JP rex figure and more like a sort of generic JP-inspired design, which for me is why Nanmu takes the win here, but it’d be nice if Rebor put out their own slightly more affordable JP rex to compete with Nanmu’s offering

    • @Killershrewfan
      @Killershrewfan  3 года назад +1

      I can see an argument for both sides. On one hand, they’ve done several JP raptors, and the popularity of the JP T.rex would make a new mood a guaranteed seller. On the other hand, lately REBOR have been trying to focus on original works. They say one of the reasons they canceled their JP3 Spinosaurus is because Nammu already made one so they felt they didn’t need to. With that sort of mentality, I could see them saying they don’t need to make another JP rex.
      Also, I’m really starting to sweat their carnotaurus requiem.

    Alas, neither is perfect. If we take some features from each of them, we can make a perfect Rexie. The posture of the Alpha is bizarre. They ruined the whole effect. The body is leaning left and, moreover, the head (which is the best head imaginable, albeit kinda small) is tilted further left - why? My Alpha's right leg rests on the one toe which is the only one supposed to be in the air (maybe it's just my specimen). The Queen's skin looks too artificial but the pose is fantastic. So if we take the Alpha's head and skin and the Queen's body, we have the best T. Rex! Maybe someday we'll get to see the perfect, ultimate JP Rex.
