@@Jason-gq1jt maybe more accurate overall but the jp trex actually has to have moving skin and muscle body is interacting with actual lighting and environments so it has to have skin like properties. And animal like movements which the original captures really well also the bumpy skin is pretty close to real life.
I love how meaty this Tyrannosaurus is, it feels more of a real animal and less of a pair of bones with skin just wrapped on it

Blue Rhino Studios has some of the best sculptures ever seen catching even the little details like hairs, bumps, skin, and other things.

I don't even have words to describe watching Sue in this light!! I cannot even fathom to imagine what it would be like to be there in real life and be able to touch her. one day hopefully! in the meantime, I thank the universe for the internet!
like I said before when they first unveiled this statue it would be pretty sweet if they 3D scan this and mass produce a scaled-down version that can fit snugly on your desktop or coffee table
hands down the most life-like reconstruction yet.
I saw a picture of a model of it being used as reference to paint the full size one, can't they just cast a mold of the small model. I'm tired of seeing lipless shrink wrapped t rex figures. Hopefully they make this a figure

really i dont mind the colors or lips. as cool as flashier colors and exposed teeth are idk, i think they way they handled it is perfect. it really doesn't feel too far off from an animal you'd see today which helps to connect with it and realize these were real leaving animals

@@badunk3379 No, not at all. A 1:40 model means it is 1/40th the size of the real animal, while your number would make a microscopic t.rex model. This one is probably 1:1 scale, so the same size as the real animal.

I think if you go off this reference of Sue her weigh 20,000+ lbs is very possible. So awesome to think how big these things were blows my mind every time. They’ve already estimate her at 18,550 lbs and that’s bigger than 2 full grown Indian elephants.
it's a truly gorgeous build. the skin detail is amazing. the eyes is actually my one point of contention. they lack depth IMO. if they had sculpted the iris inward, and then filled it up with resin, you'd get deeper and more piercing gaze

I think the non-feathered reconstruction makes more sense. Even if ancestral species to Tyrannosauridae were feathered, I could easily imagine the larger species losing this in the same way that elephants and rhinos do not have fur. Fur and feathers provide smaller animals or those in cold habitats with insulation but if you're big in a warm climate you have the opposite problem.
Elephants do have hair, though. It's just sparse. It's generally more obvious in younger individuals and certain species (i.e. Asian elephants), but it's still there even in the bigger African bush elephants. It's thickest in certain areas of the body like the head. It's thought that sparse hair on elephants can (counterintuitively) actually help them cool off. I could see the same being true for filamentous feathers on Tyrannosaurs.
I like this T. rex, T. rex was always seen as a terrifying monster when in reality it was this Majestic beast
It would have been cool if the eyes would have that cool effect where they always follow you.

The very first thought that crossed my mind when this video opened up and we got an actual scale image of Fleshy on display was just how absolutely *TERRIFYING* she is. Yeah she’s chonky and that takes away from the predisposed image of the T-Rex that Jurassic Park has taught us, but I believe that this is more fear-striking
There was this interactive facet of the exhibit where you would place your elbows on a table and your hands against your ears. This would trigger the low frequency sounds T. rex was thought to have made, and with your arms on the table, you would both hear and feel it. Standing next to this statue and doing that was something else, I’ll tell you.

As greateful as I am that Dinosaurs no longer exist for our own safety, as contradictory as this sounds I still desperately want to see a live one. And experiencing the growl via touch and sound sounds amazing. Do you know if that’s still available? And where Fleshy is located at to begin with? I want to see her!
Well in Jurassic Parks defense, you would not be as heavy with just eating goats. He was starving.
As a joke good one, but in term of how terrifiiing it is, not even close to JP1 Rexy, go back and watch behind scenes Stan Winstons animatronic T-rex to refresh your memotry, it looks to good to by true, uncomparable much more muscular body, also muscles around jaws, this looks realistic probably muchmore accurate, more animal like, like when you see elephant, fat, slow animal.. JP T-rex has charisma, its whole different creature.
Jurassic Parks T rex is by far the best looking. This doesn't even come close to comparing. JPs was perfect in every way, and I choose to believe that's what they actually looked like and you can't prove otherwise. This looks so dull and boring and unintimidating in comparison.

We actually don't know the gender of Sue
It was named Sue after Sue Hendrickson, the woman who discovered it, this specimen could very well be a male. We only know the gender of two specimens, Jane which is a juvenile and MOR 1125 or B.Rex which is nowhere near as big as Sue or Scotty.

If somebody could answer this... back in the days they said T Rex was 18ft tall. Did that reflect his old stance? Because they also use to say he was 50ft long. Or were these just some random estimates?

i wish the Jurassic park movies would use scientific accurately designs for the dinosaurs especially the t rex I've always loved this t rex design and sue is so gorgeous and intimating to look at i just hope someday i could see sue in person t rexes are my favorite carnivore dinosaur of all time.
Atleast the Jurassic Park T. Rex looks more accurate to a Real T. Rex. Than the Velociraptors and Dilophosaurus looked like in the movie. Compared to their Real life counterparts.
This Rex is so beefy. This depiction in real life would easily weigh close to 10 tons. I think T Rex is probably one of the most heaviest theropods around. Considering he did not run down fast prey, he fought it. Most other theropods chased down faster food.

I love that as we uncover more about the T Rex, the more it becomes a living animal, not a monster. I mean this thing looks similar to a hippo in some regards, and holding that image in mind you can get a sense of how it might have carried itself in real life, with its fat body jiggling as it trots to the heavy clunking sounds it could make when snapping its jaws together. Such a beautiful creature.

Whoever done this sculpturedid an amazing job, I'd almost have to say they have to be psychic cuz I have a tyrannosaurus Rex embryo fossilized baby and in comparison this creature here looks like what I have and no!!! they did not have feathers and did an amazing job.

Thought I was the only one that though that. The only thing I think could have been better was the color choices. Doesn't need to be crazy or multicolored, but they could have used maybe some smuggier shades of brown here and there rather than just a stripped tail. But granted the plain color lets you see the details on the body more.

Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus aren't downright smaller than T.rex.
Giga and Carchar are around 7-8 tons if you are basing it it from a 12-13 m. individual. While a 12 m. T.rex is also roughly 7-8 tons on AVERAGE. You have to remember that Sue and Scotty are oversized individuals and don't represent all T.rex specimens. When someone asks you "How big is a human?", you don't answer "6.5 ft and 240 lbs." do you? You're basically saying every Adult T.rex would have been 13 m. long and 9 tons which IS NOT TRUE.
As for Spinosaurus, Ibrahim confirmed on a Reedit AMA thread back in late 2020 that Spinosaurus was actually much Heavier than expected, being 10-12 tons using better tools and a more accurate 3D model. Spino CAN'T be 15 m. long but also slender in build because of the square cube law. The dinosaur would literally collapse on itself if its bones and muscles weren't reinforced enough to carry its still 15 m. body and 13-15 ft. stature. It's like you are trying to build a 4 story building without using any stone, marble, cement or concrete and expecting it to be a sturdy structure that can withstand heavy storms. It's literally impossible.
As for Rex, being 10 tons or more, that is literally the same problem with the Spino, but in the opposite way, too much weight and bulk would also cause the T.rex to collapse on itself because of the square cube law. The larger an animal is, the more its proportions have to change in order to keep itself mobile under the Earth's Gravitational Pull, and since we know Spinosaurus' proportions are very different, then it is more than likely the larger and heavier of the two. A T.rex being 10 tons or more is a VERY unlikely estimate for a 12-13 m. animal. It is supposed to be a what if scenario to the question "What if T.rex had the same bone density as Spinosaurus?". Which we know isn't accurate at all since T.rex's bones were less dense than Spino's.
So T.rex's ACTUAL size and weight is 12 m. and 7-8 tons for a normal adult, and 8.8-9 tons for larger individuals.

The carcha and giga are much less robust and less muscular and heavy, the spinosaurus and ONLY long slender and not robust, what Ibrahim said UNOFFICIAL but only and PURE SPCULATION.

BOTH Sue and Scotty are said to have been over 28 years old and 30 is the estimated life expectancy of an individual. So both are already Elder Rexes that are long past their prime. Meanwhile Trix is said to have been 30 yrs. old, but she is only 12 m. long and 7.5 tons in weight :/
You are basically just listing Rex specimens and if you didn't notice, ALL of their sizes are around that 11.7-12 m. and 7-8 ton range. Sue and Scotty are the only two who surpassed it.
As for the other 3 apexes, Remember when you were listing down all those random Rex specimens? Spino, Giga and Carchar have nowhere near the same amount of specimens as T.rex which makes them all the more questionable.
You can't just say Giga and Carchar are not as robust and heavy as T.rex when their fossil material are very little. Besides, even though Giga and Carchar aren't as bulky as a Rex, all 3 were still roughly the same size and weight with Giga and Carchar being faster and more agile while a Rex is slower but bulkier. A Giga and Carchar wouldn't have been built to be faster than a Rex at a similar size if they were less muscular, that's just being dumb.
As for Spino, Ibrahim being Unofficial and Pure Speculation? Lmao, he is the one who literally unearthed and examined all of FSAC-KK-11888's bones UP CLOSE. He even provided a table with the math of how he got the higher weight of the young Sub-Adult. Scaling it up to a 15 m. individual with the proper adult proportions and higher bone density, you get a 15 m. Spino that's somewhere between 9-10 tons. 7.5 tons is yielded from a disproportional skeletal and that reconstruction is 7.5 tons AS IS. So what more if you give the Spino its proper thick barrel-shaped torso, deeper gastralia, more muscular paddle tail and higher bone density in proportion to its entire skeleton? Spino was beefier than you think since it needed to be, especially since the environment Spino lived in was way harsher than Rex's.

I honestly wouldn’t mind having a smaller model of this statue. Besides the dull colors and lips every thing else is pretty amazing. I’m pretty sure a lot of people would love it if someone started producing and selling smaller figurines of this statue. Only time will tell if that ever happens.

What evidence exactly? The evidence against lips is stronger, the main arguments for lips are practical ones and the fact most tetrapods have them except birds and crocs which are the closest living relatives of non-avian dinosaurs don’t have lips. So it’s very much up in the air. I find it strange that people like to invoke lizards when talking about dinosaur lips and it took almost a century and a half to move away from the classic lizard image of dinosaurs.

Yes, crocodilians and birds don’t have lips, as one group has beaks and the other are specialized semi aquatic piscivores, so they’re lipless conditions are irrelevant as they have derived away from the basal archosaurian condition.
And the osteological correlates are lined foramina like those of fully lipped lizards, meaning they far more likely had lips than not.

I a tually wouldn’t have minded a leopard or even a Giraffe like pattern on its skin. When you’re as big as a billboard, and your entire way of life depends on not being spotted, having some camouflague to break up your silhouette against the foliage would be pretty handy.

Scott Hartman does a good job of summarizing the touchstone arguments seen on either side of the debate in this blog post. Although I find myself agreeing with his ultimate conclusion, one of the biggest takeaways here is that there is no true scientific consensus.
You may also want to check out PNSO’s making of “Wilson” video as well. They’re a company that are pretty overtly pro-lipless therapods, and they go over some of their reasoning for that in the video.
Ibrahim et al 2014, Carr er al 2017 and Barker et al 2017. You can find them all available online for free.

The T. rex from Jurassic park was 16 feet tall at the hips and 37 feet long.

FANTASTIC!!!... and guess what? no feathers or protofeathers, because we already have T-Rex skin impressions from: neck, torso, leg and tale! No idea why Jurassic World Dominion added protofeathers... they are just insulting paleontology by adding them based on other species.

@@reallycantthinkofausername487 We do have now at the moment, it is called evidence and we have it, we have real skin impressions from the T-Rex neck, torso, leg and tail... no feathers, just scales, no assumptions, real evidence printed in the rock and studies, just search in Google.

Due to gigantothermy, the Tyrannosaurus rex likely had very little to no feathers.
It has been discovered that Tyrannosaurus Rex had scaly skin, found through skin impressions, which is inflicted on Fleshy. We don't know if the Trex had feathers, but we do know that it had scales
Some dudes discovered skin imprints of the rex and it showed scales, but there is still a chance of feathers but doing without is the safest bet
I always imagined that the T. rex started out with a thin layer of down feathers as a chick, but lost almost all of it as they grew larger. I'm not a paleontologist though, so take what I said with a *massive* grain of salt.

only problem is he looks too friendly. You look at lizards snakes alligators, birds, they all look serious and scary. They need to add that scariness to trex models
My only honest problem with the statue is the inclusion of the lizard lips. Overall, its nicely done.
Why? They would have possessed them. Based on the number of foramina in their jaws they would have had fleshy, immobile lips like lizards.
Your only objection is viewer taste. Exposed teeth look menacing, so Hollywood loves them. Science says that works for gators that live in the water, but land animals need lips to keep their teeth moist.
