- I was so excited about this - so sad that the Hemline Sewing Advent Calendar is just not as exciting as I had hoped!

A lot of the items looked like things that were in my grandmother's sewing box. I would expect an advent calendar for 2022 would have more modern notions.

Honestly. Yeah. Watching it it’s all “useful” items but it’s a basic notions kit that you probably could have purchased cheaper. I’m glad you opened it all in one day instead of dragging out disappointment.
It almost feels like they’re out of touch of what sewists need.

I bought this advent calendar 3 years ago when I started sewing. I was disappointed then, I thought a lot of the item were cheap. How sad to see that the pin cushion is still the same! I cannot believe that people go back and buy it the following year. I thought it was disappointing before I started bag making, so no way I would buy it ever again. I did love watching the video though, I could guess your face before seeing it! Loved it! I really can't wait to open your calendar even more now

I don’t find hemline products very good quality, so not surprised about the contents. Packaging was lovely and could be reused filling it with all sorts of goodies
Yes that’s true. I’m not sure what I thought I’d get but at least the packaging is good!

I bought this a few years ago, when the packaging wasn’t so nice, so was even more disappointed ! I now buy myself lots of little things when I go to a quilt show, to package up. These boxes would at least have been useful for that ! (So glad I got your 12 Days!). Thanks Emma.

Apparently the ends are for putting between your fabric and your button to create a space to sew a shank. You can also put a pin in the orange part and draw a circle, I’m off to try it once I finish watching you Emma. Ps thank you for your 12 Days Advent Calendar that you created- def worth the money 📆

Omg… I’d have been majorly p***ed off to get that junk for that price! That is alllll stuff that comes in a cheap sewing set you could have got for less than a 1/3 of the price which no one ever uses because it is so cheap… but yeah, the packaging is sweet!

The thing is, this is more for hand sewers. Not really for machine sewers. So it is understandable as to why you wouldn't thing this isn't that great! I hand sew everything (machines (even the used ones) are too expensive). So, I was looking at what you were getting and loving it 😅
Yes that’s true it is more for hand sewers and for sure whilst this isn’t ground breaking it could be good for new sewers. At least the packaging is lovely!
The packaging is amazing, really exciting to open! 🤩 But what's inside is really disappointing, it makes you think you're paying more for the packaging design and print than the items inside. It sort of reminds me of what you would get in cheap Christmas Crackers but without the paper hat and cheesy joke! I think even for beginner sewists or children it would be disappointing, there's just no love or thought put into it, I would be really upset opening this or watching a loved one I had bought it for opening it. I think there's an amazing opportunity for a company like Hemline to create a really exciting advent calendar. Hopefully, they see all the comments here, use the constructive feedback, and make next year's calendar better 🤔🤞
Christmas crackers is about right! If only the people designing the packaging had a hand in the contents also.

Definitely good for someone just starting out with sewing, but that is about it. And yes, you're right, people who sew a lot are more likely to purchase an advent calendar. I would be very disappointed if I bought this. The only items I do not already have are the kilt pin and the shirring elastic. And I have no use for those. I'm looking forward to seeing what other advent calendars you have 😃

I love Advent calendars! I almost bought that same one on Amazon but because they did show the contents, I decided to not purchase it. I was ably to snatch one from “Sew Yours.” I can’t wait to see what they unveil daily! What other sewing related Advent calendars (great ones) are out there? Thanks!
Me too 😎. Oh cool! I’m not unboxing that one. I have two more brand ones and then mine that I’m doing- but not the sew yours one. Please watch this space, the other 2 are really cool! But also you don’t have to watch if you don’t want to ruin the surprise 🥰
They could have at least put in some Christmas buttons or holiday packaging needles if it was going to be so basic they could have put some superficial sparkle to it at least

This seems like it would be perfect for someone who hand sews or a beginner. I think we require sturdier items for bag making.
But won’t most newbies have the majority of this? I don’t know I feel an advent calendar should be a bit more exciting 🙈

My sister and i bought one from a couple of years ago , this one you opened was a tiny bit better , but its very very disappointing, we are re using the boxes and filling it forceach other for next year , we will never buy the hemline one again .
It’s such a shame that they don’t hit the mark. There’s some lovely lux ones around but well they have a lux price tag too 🫣

A bit of excitement- it’s an advent calendar- a gift whether for yourself or a friend/partner. I’d want a surprise or something not so plain?

I'm of 2 minds on this. It's a great idea. Paying 35 pound though is a rip off. Most of the objects are worth a pound at most...some 50p so I would be just as disappointed. Some nay sayers do have a point. If you read the back you wouldn't buy it. A lot of things they say are great if you are starting out. True but if you dont have a machine some of the stuff is useless. So read the back and save your money.
Yes I guess that’s why they have it there. I just don’t think you’d get this if you were a beginner? Maybe? Im not sure a sewing advent is what you’d get unless you’re hooked into it? We all know it doesn’t take long before you’re hooked though 😂. I wish they’d have tried harder. I did find last years version online with the contents and it’s not very different 😫

That Advent calendar is only good for children that you want to teach how to sew. For us grownups, even if one is a newbie, already have most of those items.

I’ve watched it out of curiosity…I’m not a sewer. (As in person that sews not the other kind). If I received this…I actually would be quite excited sadly, only because I have very little sewing supplies and a daughter that wants to sew. Plus I have no idea of the value…..so wouldn’t have had an issue with that. Having said all that, if you do sew, I can understand the disappointment…things like pins, needles, safety pins and black and white thread are pretty laughable. Thank you for doing this….there are so many companies ripping people off with poor quality advent calendars (ahem…Lego) and Christmas Eve boxes, it’s actually very useful to have an idea of what you are getting for your money!!

Oh my gosh! What a load of rubbish. I'd be gutted if I'd spend my hard earned money on this. It looked like someone's child had filled up the little boxes from last year's calendar. Nothing was even packaged. When you buy a spool of thread, it has a plastic wrap around it. Four clips? Random selection of tiny, non matching buttons? And, Emma, you absolutely can have too many needles. hahaha

I think this would be great for a child just getting into sewing. It has everything that you would need to start a stash of sewing supplies.
