- In the most unorthodox and expected way Pleasure Beach Resort confirmed a new attraction today that will replace the currently SBNO Grand Prix, but what is it?
Amanda also confirmed that Ice Blast will be returning but with all the cables cut, signage for the ride removed and plans in place for its removal we question what actually will happen to this S&S shot tower during the 2024 season.
Also, I REALLY like the latest reiteration of the logo. It's smart. It's a shame they're shunning Blackpool but the logo is MUCH better now!

Confirmation that one of the rumours is true as Grand Prix has closed permanently at Pleasure Beach Resort as announced today but what does this mean for the other rumours and most importantly, what do you think will replace Grand Prix? Comment below!

@@TheLilyGraceLife The space is HUGE you could fit an army of Pendulums in there, I'd love a Pendulum ride instead of Ice Blast at the front of the park, Viking themed, absolute top tier with wooden accents so it looks really old school

Rumours make the world go round but with how Ice Blast looks today that thing is gonna need either replacing entirely or the majority of parts replacing... it's in an absolute state. Signage all gone and the rest of it, saying it's coming back and then looking at it.... they must either be pumping some serious cash into it or just delaying the inevitable (it's closure)

Seems Pleasure Beach are taking the direct opposite approach to say Thorpe Park who are proving that being open with the public/ pass holders is far more engaging and in the long term rewarding.

Of course Amanda is going to be protective of her park, however over the years their have been alot of bad choices & decisions that upset general public not just enthusiasts. 1. Its an amusement park, not a theme park or resort. 2. Non rider entry, i was in Blackpool twice last year & because most the family dont do rides & with nothing new BPB wasnt our choice because of cost. 3. Unannounced removal of Wild Mouse are just some things to note, hope this new attraction is something to be excited for, keep up the good work
Couldn't agree with you more, I do feel sorry for her at times but the people around her don't seem to be making the right decisions. Just look at the barcode system... one day the park has been open and everyone is complaining about that absolute shitshow of an implementation that serves no purpose. They need to scale it back and go back to basics and realise there's a reason people are avoiding the park, address those issues, get people in THEN improve the park from there when you have footfall and sustainable income to make those changes
I'm sorry but pleasure beach resort is an awful name. To me a pleasure beach and a resort are two different types of theme parks and whilst to us up north it is just "The Pleasure Beach" there are multiple pleasure beaches around britain.
People will still call it Blackpool Pleasure Beach just like Nemesis will never be called Nemesis Reborn
They need a USP. They had that in having the uk tallest coaster. Id try to have a coaster that no one in the uk has. You can see where this is going an RMC if they can afford it would be ideal.
Thry could even go for a 2 ride deal and have their moose coaster for where the wild mouse used to be

A B&M dive coaster would fit in really well at pleasure beach, similar to Valkyria at Liseberg. It would definitely pull in the crowds imo.

A dive coaster would be such a simple way for Pleasure Beach to take back the UK height record (as a bonus they'd also get the world's tallest dive too). This is Pleasure Beach Resort though and I don't know if they'd want to spend the money to go as tall as that.
I just think a Dive coaster ticks a lot of boxes. They could take back the height record as mentioned, they could have a double drop like Shirkra at Busch gardens. The GP would love it as would enthusiasts if they did it right...but this is pleasure beach we're talking about!
Take that record off Thorpe after a couple of operating seasons for Hyperia, would be a world class move, and maybe start a UK coaster war 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
They’re also capacity machines, which along with Icon is going to help.

Been to Pleasure Beach for years and I have been today the park feels very run down today, here is the list of ride closures:
Big One Down
Infusion Down
Grand National Down most of the day
Avalanche stalled and it went down most of the day
Revolution had issues and went Down after lunch
Icon had issues in the morning and was late to open
Steeplechase had some downtime
Nicklodeon Streak also went down
River caves and Ghost Train also went down throughout the day.
Ice Blast SBNO
Grand Prix SBNO
The two most reliable rides of the day were Big DIpper and Valhalla.
I know rides have downtime but sheesh thats a lot, the park also feels very rundown with very little care, look at Grand National paintwork rotting in the station and coaster itself, River Caves had an anamitronic snake all mechanics exposed underneath, operations were also slow. Its so disappointing when we all know it could be so much better, I all for Parques Reunidos to take over Pleasure Beach as they own Kennywood so have experience with historic park.

I hate hearing them say stuff without the definite article. “We’re looking forward to welcoming people back to Pleasure Beach this Saturday” just sounds wrong. Really not impressed with the language used in that announcement either. I just don’t get why TPTB@BPB/PBR/… can’t be a bit more open (and friendly?) about plans for the park. Why not simply announce that Ice Blast will be SBNO for the first half of the season so that people know what to expect? They could’ve done that in one of those Instagram Winter Updates very easily. More frustrating is the way that the closure of historic rides isn’t made public until it’s too late for those who love the ride to get a last circuit in. I’ve never forgotten the way Cyclone was made unrideable the day they announced the closure of Southport Pleasureland. I guess the risk of last-minute applications for listed status are seen as too much of a risk, but wouldn’t it have been nicer for future owners of the site to have had the option of a classic coaster?
Yeah... it's a real shame how they just take stuff out of the line-up without any real heads up, look at the uproar around Wild Mouse. This won't have the same impact obviously but for those who appreciate / have attachments and memories to the rides it would be nice to have had a last ride on it or at the very least a track walk or behind the scenes tour to give it a send off to those who wish to do so!
I don’t see why companies think that ‘resort’ adds a significant amount of marketing value to their brand? If it’s not a true resort then it just feel disappointing. Also Amanda’s tweets are a slap in the back of the head! 😬

That was such an aggressive tweet 😂 they know people haven't been happy with the park, so they then choose to put out a tweet like that 😂 10/10 good management right there 😂 I joke though, it was a funny and bizarre tweet 😂 I really don't like everything they're currently doing with the rebranding, and it doesn't seem like it's getting better... hopefully I'm wrong and it does improve in the future 😄

I wouldn’t call Grand Prix a heritage ride personally, there are plenty of rides of pleasure beach thigh would give that name to, but Grand Prix wasn’t one of them IMO.
It’s one of Walt’s inspirations at the park, I’d say that’s heritage to me as they nabbed a few of his ideas aha
they could try and take back the height record, i could see that happening.
They need something to keep them relevant so this would be a good shout although fitting something of THAT size in there may be tricky!

I know, I’ve already said this in the comments of one of your previous videos, but it’s Time Amanda some of her management team need to go, and fast!
It’s clear now more than ever that after everything that’s happened over the last 20 years since she first took over in June 2004, so many rides have been removed and not replaced, some of which being major historical ones, hardly ever open in the dark nowadays, which was another thing that made the place very special, and even when they are, the rides, aren’t as illuminated anywhere near they once were.
Boring bland colours I’m not just a lot of the rides but the general aesthetics of the park which, for a seaside amusement park. Even one that tries to modernise is just not good.
if pleasure beach is to really get back to its glory days, then it needs to return much closer to its roots Not just in the business model but so many of how they did things back then.

Not relying on the heritage side of it, if that means doing a way or not even trying to keep the mix of old rides and new rides, then I’m sorry it’s time for them to either change the management or sell up!
That is the one thing left, that still makes pleasure, be different from so many other parks and all of the other parks in the UK, take that away and it’s just another amusement park like any other and therefore why bother even operating at all!

Pleasure beach does a good job of fitting many rides in a small space but moving the flat rises around would create more workable space in my opinion.

I feel abit sorry for her on occasions as running a park trying to cater for everyone must be a mare, but i dont think she helps herself neither by saying remarks like that. I’d love to, I’ve suggested it, I was shot down rather abruptly and offered an alternative interview with someone which I politely declined. I don’t want a pre approved marketing interview, I want an honest chat!
@LiftHillsandThrills I think personally that's her down fall, we all know it's her business and she will run it as she wants, but let people in be more open and social about the park, it may have a positive effect for her business, otherwise I think she may ruin BPB
What I see happening is a flat ride being installed in place of where Grand Prix's station and starting helixes (i dont know what else to call them 😂) are initially, with a coaster or more major attraction installed once Avalanche dies. Grand Prix takes up a big space but a lot of the ride runs under Avalanche so if Avalanche is indeed rumoured to close within the next 5 years and get removed, that's an Icon-sized plot for a hefty investment.
I'm thinking it most likely will be a very tall flat BECAUSE Avalanche isn't going anywhere soon, sadly.
C'mon I really hope they get something that could compete with all the new additions that are coming to UK parks, even LIGHTWATER VALLEY is getting a coaster! Something like an RMC Raptor would be brilliant there!
I'd love a raptor in that space although someone posted once that RMC can't actually build a coaster in the UK yet due to some restriction, the more I tried to dig deeper the more confused I got so as far as that info goes, I have no clue!

@LiftHillsandThrills unfortunately it was just rumour I had seen. Their post about the new ride is Rocket Rollercoaster so kinda fits the bill, & being a kids park now like you say won't be anything exciting, just another park that is full of bad decisions

As much as I'd love Grand Prix's replacement to be a major rollercoaster, I feel like there should be something for younger children too, to keep the balance. Maybe a flat ride, and a family coaster.
I like the thinking although I do feel most younger children stuff is all focused within Nickelodeon Land so maybe a family thrill might be a good option although with the rides Pleasure Beach has the investment would need to bring in footfall so if that was me, I'd want something top tier thrill level to draw the crowds in. No point spending all that money if it's not going to market the park.
I went to Blackpool pleasure beach today and i noticed that the grand prixs was closed all day when i walked passed and also ice blasted seats as now gone on the attraction also big one was closed all day 😊

Surely they will need to remove Avalanche if they are planning a new roller coaster as most of the track for Grand Prix is around Avalanche. Would they have the space to build a new coaster if Avalanche stays? Would love to see an RMC as a replacement.
Depends on the timescales but yes they’d probably need to remove Avalanche too so I’ll stick with a big flat ride until we know otherwise

Thoosies can be a bit much, i get that.
But. Imagine having a product (the park/resort) that people are so passionate about they talk about it even when the product isn’t available for months and responding with: stop talking about it. Its just mind blowing. How many marketing teams would kill for that kind of engagement?!
Also. While thoosies do tend to overestimate their proportion of a parks audience, for a park thats strapped for cash, its a really bold move to alienate any proportion.
It's just utterly utterly baffling and makes me quite sad for a real piece of our heritage.

Ngl mate I worked on cliff hanger in 2018, that ride bearly works half the time. Or it did when I worked there, they mainly got parts from s&s themselves or they could be fabricated in the maintenance house. Also to note not a lot of the engineers there are theme park engineer qualified, I saw so many times the rides being bodge jobbed. It was unbelievable. It’s the reason why a lot of theme park rides there don’t last 15 years+

@@LiftHillsandThrills issue is no manufacturers/the sector offers training role, it’s all done in house, which completely knackers it like, reasons why a lot rides don’t last long, not trying to be a bad person about it. Just speaking from experience, also mechanic qualification as well. So I know a couple of things about the sector on fixing things. It’s just a big car really
They really pushed up the prices a couple of years ago and you carnt even take a sandwich there now lol half the rides are back breakers I love pleasure beach and they need more people through the doors but need to change there ways imo

reading on Blackpool Gazette Pleasure beach have said " CEO Amanda Thompson OBE made the announcement in a speech on the theme park’s opening day today.
The Pleasure Beach says the addition of a new ride comes following a strategic ride review and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the resort.

Amanda’s tone just doesn’t scream ‘come visit my park’ to me. It’s more along the lines of ‘you are all wrong and I’m the most important’
We weren’t wrong about Grand Prix and I’m sure as hell sure that Ice Blast is on its last legs otherwise you wouldn’t be putting construction markings down and removing all the ride signage unless they’re replacing it with a whole new model or rebranding it
A launch rollercoaster like stealth at Thorpe Park would be good but over 300ft so it would be the UKs only giga coaster.

So you know me I never have a rant I’m quite a chilled person BUT , that tweet ( or whatever you call it on X ) has really made me quite sad 😢
I spent my childhood years with my beautiful mum and made many memories at BPPB , I even took my family to Blackpool just read a poem there on the 20th anniversary of her passing away …… I digress ,
How the hell does someone who is keeping the memories alive for many people and making new memories for the next generation get away with talking like that !

I’m sad to see Grand Prix go although I much prefer autopia at Disneyland Paris I still really enjoyed Grand Prix. Unfortunately when I went last year the ride was closed so I didn’t get to ride it for the last time but I did ride it when i went in 2022.
It only opened for a handful of days last season
Grand prix was a horrible ride to work on back in 05 cant imagine it was much fun or easy to work on now. To me its good riddance. To me there are to many rides being removed without any replacement let alone a decent replacement.
Maybe its time for the Thompson family to finally let go of their reigns of the park and sell to a owner that actually cares about the park and making memories for generations of guests to come

I don’t think the pleasure beach is a resort. It’s a one day park to be honest, sometimes two if you’re there for a night maybe.
Debatable isn’t it because overnight facilities / attraction constitute a ‘resort’ just needs a water park (Sandcastle doesn’t count)
Hopefully the new ride will be a rmc hybrid coaster black pool pleasure beach have classic wooden and steel coasters so a hybrid would make sense plus it would be the first of its type in the uk

Twitter, the tweet in this very video states that Grand Prix is NOT opening to make way for a new attraction. Lancashire Live have also posted the same news!!!
It actually says, "... will not operate this year as we are planning a new attraction..." so why have you stated it will never open again. She hasn't said the Grand Prix will make way for a new attraction.

While Grand prix does seem to take up a lot of space Avalanche also occupies the same area! To utilize that space I think both would need to go!

I don't blame Amanda, theirs too many predicting things and saying what should and shouldn't be there, it aggravates me, Amanda knows people like the old rides and nostalgia as well as the new, so I just wish influencers would let them get on with it, they know how much money they have to do it, they know exactly what they are doing, things have changed security wise since the documentary in 97, so its obvious theirs not going to be as many on, but when we have been there it's always been packed, love pb

Jesus…what a statement 😂 between this and the podcast/radio show she did it comes across really really bad. Granted, I know for a fact I couldn’t do what she does, it’s a dam hard job, but I think there’s definitely a need for a PR person to take what she says and re-frame it for a better delivery.
Antagonistic statements like this will just rile the fans up even more, they’ll respond in kind and it will just barrel roll, pleasure beaches reputation will continue to fall and with it footfall.
