Most big manufacturers offset cost of making low volume sports bikes by selling scooters, retros and nakeds. Surely triumph could do the same. A basic model Daytona 765 I’m sure would have a cult following. Great vid btw... nice to hear a bike on full chat for a change.
I am lucky enough to own and ride one. Done 1200 miles since August, including all through winter. Cleaned after every ride. I also have a 675 Daytona for the track. Best of both!
I found that a set of Helibars trackstar clip-ons made my Daytona comfy enough to ride back from Le Man in one go (on back roads). It pushed them forward an up slightly which actually helped to counter-steer too
I just spoke with a guy on FB that got one (#359) yesterday in Orlando. I recognized the bike and the shop he got it in (brand new). I sat on it and its not for me, but it is beautiful, for sure. Great review! Thank you!!

Journos pleaded for Triumph to build this, on forums and in comment sections people claimed they couldn't wait to buy one, and now large numbers of them languish in dealer showrooms even as depleted inventories due to the pandemic meant new bikes were scarce. I think this was nothing more than a marketing move to align with them dipping their toes into racing by supplying engines, but until fashions change and people start buying supersports again, I think this is the last we see of a Triumph supersport.
Great video, and like you said bit of a crying shame Triumph have not brought out a new Daytona and maybe with slightly higher bars for a bit more comfort. But surprised there's no aftermarket conversion kits to turn a Street Triple into a Daytona????
it all comes down to individual choice, buy what you like ride what you like nothing else matters, Theres lots of opinions on styling but it ain’t a Daytona if it looks like an R6 or gixer ect, as for the money add all the extras to the other bikes in that category and the prices creep closer to the Daytona. Just my opinion 🤷♀️ Enjoyed the review chops 😊
Good review, nice bike ! If they made it, I reckon Triumph would sell a production Daytona, basically plastic (not carbon fibre) fairings and some clip ons on a Street Triple RS. Keep the regular Triple RS engine (don't Moto2 it !) For it to sell, It could only be about £1k more than a Street Triple RS, £5K more is too much. Also a bright red or yellow colour option along with the compulsory Triumph black please ! Please tell 'em back at Triumph, they might listen to you :-D
Gotta say, it’s a beauty of a machine, but I think you demonstrated really well that this is not a road bike as it’s too track focussed. I love my Street Triple 765RS, but I wish Triumph would come up with a reinvention of the TT. I had one. With the revised 765 engine, full LED, cruise, all the toys and accessories, I’m in! Come on Triumph, you know you want to! Incidentally and you probably get this all the time Chops, but what’s that phone mount you’re using? Looks like just the thing I’m after.
I have a female friend who has one of these and a street triple, lucky lady 😁 I just sold my ER6f Friday and went for my last little ride on it yesterday and bought my new but older bike, the ER6 came from Scotland and it's now going to go on it's new adventures in Ireland. The new bike is a 2k model ZX9r, 16k miles and very clean, refurbed wheels and new tyres, discs and pads and 6 pot to 4 pot conversion, common on those. What are your thoughts on these? as it's old it is a little heavy (about the same as my ER6 though), but got all the power and torque I'll ever need, comfortable too for a sport bike.
So I just purchased one of these from a triumph dealership and the salesman let slip that triumph is supposedly bring out a 1200cc sports bike 👀 derived from the new 1200 speed triple race 177.5 bop bike
I'm stuck between two worlds right now and your opinions aren't making it any easier! Looking at either the 660 RS (which would only get sold for msrp) or one of these which have sat in the states for the past year and they are letting go for 11999 in some places (what a steal!) I really think the 660 when we get some more R&D time with the engine is going to be a monster of a bike on the track and give the traditional 3 a run for their money. There is some serious speculation about what we will get when we get race ECUs for the 660, and just how much they left on the table to make it euro compliant. Plus after the interview which was published on RUclips about the lead engineer speaking about the design of the engine. He really was hinting at all the power that is locked up. Of course it all comes down to, how much work time and cost do I want to sink. What what a decision. May the Supersport live through another golden age.
we need to create a petition online, for triumph to make a new daytona and get as many people as we can to sign it. Because i agree they will sell like hotcakes and its a flippin DAYTONA!!!!
I agree with your comments about the middleweight class of bike (I've been saying this for many a year) but the manufacturers have an issue with the current A2 license restrictions in that any motorcycle more powerful than 94bhp in standard manufacturers trim cannot be restricted down. So producing a middleweight bike with more than 94 may produce less sales but buyers may want around 110/120bhp to move down from a litre bike or to get the best out of a middleweight performance. So will the manufacturers make two middleweight bikes - think not. 🤔🤷
Yeah it's a valid point I agree, and I think new riders see a need to tick that litre bike box. These are seen as a stepping stone to a litre bike which really it shouldn't be..
Great review, in my mind it's just not enough of a step up from a standard 675r to justify the price tag. A bit of tuning would probably have the 2013 675r making similar power, and I have never thought my 675 really needs rider modes, TC etc..
Actually after owning Suzuki GS 1000 in 1979, a GPZ1100B2 in 82, I had 2 Honda CBR600s in the 90s that did 240 kmh out of the crate, very snug fit, quick through the twisties. Litre sports bikes haven’t made any sense for a long time.
When the triumph marketing guys are interviewed they seem to say sportsbike sales vs naked are so low they can’t justify it. Street triple is due a remodelling so you never know....
Looks like triumph are looking at racing street triple rs but fully faired and clipons ect. at bsb rounds this year as a testbed for a class aimed at under 900cc which would include ducatis v2👍. If this goes ahead I think the appetite for a new daytona would go through the roof...how could triumph resist. Also that true middleweight class would be something else!
Totally agree Mr. Chopsy, about the future market for middleweight bikes (midrange grunt included, of course) in our Big Brother policed society. Good review, as ever. But would I pay the extra folding over an Rs660? No.
Great review as ever! How do you find the X-Spirit 3 lid on a naked/upright bike seeing as it was primarily designed for the track? I’m debating between it and an NXR and had assumed the NXR maybe quieter/more comfortable but prefer the look of the x Spirit! Love the colour way on yours.
If only MV Augusta could work out a deal to use this engine in the F3. Might make ownership of one more attractive knowing that it’s not likely to shit the bed at any given moment 😩
You mention mid-range sportsbikes perhaps becoming more relevant (RS660). It seems like Yamaha are bringing out a new R7 next year (MT-07 engine?). If Yamaha were to bring out a sportsbike with a tuned CP3 engine (MT-09) i think it would rival, if not trounce, the Daytona & i would definitely be interested in buying one!
Chops: go grab yourself a cup of tea Me: Proceeds to pause video and make myself some tea 😂 Great content as always, no way Would I paid 15k for a tarted up Daytona. Can I ask do you have any sellers remorse after the GSXR, loved that bike on the Channel seemed like the perfect road sportsbike?
I still can't believe that people complained about the 765 looking like the old 675. Like really? It looks like one of the sexiest bikes ever built and you think this is a bad thing?
Which of the phone mounts are you using on the truimph? With it not been your bike i presume it comes off and on easy. May beed to use your code if it does!
Built for the track but too beautiful to risk on the track. I feel like it's caught between two worlds a bit. Nice video!
Yup agree Simon 👍
i hate to say it but most bike that i find myself attracted to costs way too much to risk on track as well

Loves middle weight bikes ,has a H2 🤪
Yeah I know 🤣
My dealer stateside has not just one, but two with a $5000 discount no less. I think I'm being stupid for not picking one up.
I'd love to see how it performed compared to a 10 year old gsxr 750 that costs 1/3rd the price.
Prefer Super Sport bikes. Love this!
Id have one if i could bend my knees :) great vid mr chops
Thanks Tony 👍
Totally agree Mr. Chopsy, about the future market for middleweight bikes (midrange grunt included, of course) in our Big Brother policed society. Good review, as ever. But would I pay the extra folding over an Rs660? No.
Chopsy i spat my beer when you said room for a fisting 😂😂😂 great review mate 👍👍
Haha 😆
Lovely bike! The KTM 890 R Duke has the MCS master cylinder too
Yes it does, thought that while I was editing 👍
@@LambChopRides Hrmm I think the new SDR has it too since it also has Stylemas. I've been thinking of putting on the RCS19 Corsa Corta on my bike :)
No don't think it does.. I would have noticed that when I had it 😁 might put one on the h2 as brake feel needs improvement on that
@@LambChopRides Yeah, you're right it doesn't!
😄😉
Great review as ever!
How do you find the X-Spirit 3 lid on a naked/upright bike seeing as it was primarily designed for the track? I’m debating between it and an NXR and had assumed the NXR maybe quieter/more comfortable but prefer the look of the x Spirit! Love the colour way on yours.
Can't help but think of the cost to repair if you slid it down the road 😬 .. and if it would be possible to buy new panels...
Who would allow uncle chop to ride their special bikey 😜
Your camera set up looks like a Dalek has had a head on with a bumper car
If only MV Augusta could work out a deal to use this engine in the F3. Might make ownership of one more attractive knowing that it’s not likely to shit the bed at any given moment 😩
You mention mid-range sportsbikes perhaps becoming more relevant (RS660). It seems like Yamaha are bringing out a new R7 next year (MT-07 engine?). If Yamaha were to bring out a sportsbike with a tuned CP3 engine (MT-09) i think it would rival, if not trounce, the Daytona & i would definitely be interested in buying one!
I've heard it is on the cards.. Really hope so!
Cracking review Chopsy..👍 love how deep you get into the bike, and you can "properly" ride it.. in more ways than one "give it a fisting" 🤣 🤣 🤣
Haha thanks Patrick 👍
Lovely bike. 15k? Haha never in my life but if I was a rich man then yes. But I do like the first gen design way more.
Is it worth the price vs a Panigale V2?
Yes the triples will always have lower grunt than most inline 4’s....only the v4 compares
I do love a v twin for low down grunt and noise obviously.
Chops fix that mirror camera. It’s making me feel sea sick. Lol.
Yeah didn't work that view unfortunately 😕, won't be doing it again
lol, I had to go back and check, didn't bother me.
It's Like a floppy Weiner.
Yes, the suspension is “gold”, but are the internals Ohlins?
Was on the fence until you showed how fistable it is. Ready to snap one up for my commute now.
Ball Bags!!!
vs it's closest current rival, the RS660, please? Because this was the bike closest to what I wanted before the RS660 popped up.
Doesnt look exciting, but I like Daytona continues to live.
Chops: go grab yourself a cup of tea
Me: Proceeds to pause video and make myself some tea 😂
Great content as always, no way Would I paid 15k for a tarted up Daytona.
I used to have a 675 Daytona which was fantastic but was without doubt the most uncomfortable bike I've ever ridden.
Yeah proper little supersports! 👍
Which of the phone mounts are you using on the truimph? With it not been your bike i presume it comes off and on easy. May beed to use your code if it does!
Yes it's comes off easy, Ultimate Addons stem mount 👍
