    I also own an S1h and was very pleasantly surprised with the autofocus performance using the lumix s 16-35 f4 lens and the 2.2 firmware. Huge huge difference!
    I also own a sigma l mount 40mm and the af is just terrible with that lens (iq is breathtaking) Apparently native lenses work better when it comes to autofocus. Used the A7siii for a few days to try it and the autofocus is amazing, but the footage is noticeably softer. Also the 4k 120 fps seemed fantastic, but in post it just takes too much time and much processing power. Sticking to my s1h for now.

      I did the switch. In terms of pure picture quality I would say that I the S1H has the sharper image. And no joke the 4K120 is hell on my computer right now.(3950x AMD) . But since I got two big projects that needed more pixels and Slowmotion I made the switch. I still prefer the feel of the S1H but the autofocus and pice of mind that the more stable A7sIII gives Is worth it. I do miss the tilt flipp screen every day.

      @@creativenords That editing process was something I hadn't taken into consideration well enough. I have a great editing workstation, but those 120 fps 4k files are just beyond what I would call useful. Too bad you weren't able to do a test with the new firmware and possibly a native lens, I couldn't believe the difference in performance. Still not as good as the Sony AF, but reliable enough for professional use I think, fast and responsive. Much better than 3d party l-mount lenses.
      I also considered the switch to Sony but when I looked at the cost I reconsidered. Just too expensive for me, selling an almost brand new camera and paying the full amount for a new one plus the glass plus memory cards. You need at least a few lenses with AF so adapters don't always work. Now I only invested in one native lens and I'm good to go. May be you could do a video on the A7SII in a professional workflow, I'd be interested to see what you think of the LOG / skin tones and so on.

      @arishouwing the auto focus is my worry. I’m shopping for a hybrid camera right now and I want 4K 60 with 10bit and Sony seems to be the most reliable with the AF specially the eye AF.

      @KobusGevelspar 2 года назад +1

      @@TruthMusicStudios For hybrid I wouldn’t go for the sony, the s1h is much better at photography. For video, the sony clearly wins at AF, but the latest firmwares of Panasonic gave us a pretty decent AF performance. But AF, I don’t use it at all when things are really important shooting video.

    Hi, Cool review, thanks. S1R shooter here, I use a couple of Sigma 1.4 primes and a couple of Panasonic Zooms (kit 24-100 & the 70-200 2.8). The camera definitely performs better AFC with the native glass for video but for stills there’s barely a noticeable difference between the Sigma DG DN’s at least and the Panasonic’s and they all perform impressively in all AF modes. But I’m not a pro videographer and you would know, it’s a shame the native glass is so expensive or I’d be all out native on this mount. Having said that the Sigma’s L mounts are excellent lenses.

    Nice vid...but i still believe that the a7siii stills are super underrated...and even after watching this, i dont think the s1h, a7siii and r5 arent really competing. Vor video the sony is just straight up better if slowmo is any consideration. For Photo R5 is boss. For Hybrid...S1H IS capable, but really niche...cool that it fits your niche there! The image in 24p on the S1h is absolutely superb!

    Great video, indeed. Also bought the S1H, being aware of the poor AF-C in video. After shooting for a while in V-Log only to get the hightest dynamic range out of the camera, I needed to switch to cine-like D for some low light shots (V-Log is not really the best choice for low light). And the other day, I incedently figured out that the AF-C in video mode works very (!) good if not shooting in V-Log. I believe the reason behind is that the contrast AF of the S1H just does need to work with the low contrast V-Log signal when shooting in this mode, leading the Af to permanenty seek for what to focus on. From the recent announcement re the upcoming firmware update for the S series from Panasonig they explicetly mention "improved AF when shooting V-Log). I expect they bake some little contrast enhancement piece of SW into the signal path from sensor to AF-C SW.

    the 4k60p is not about the data, it is about reading the sensor. you could do like the s1r and read full width, but it would lineskip and that is a soft image, like the 4k120p of the r5. they had the choice of a more high quality crop or a wider softer shot. Since the gh4, they have consistently gone crop except s1r 60p (and maybe the s1r 4k 24/30p is also lineskipped? not sure.

    You are totally right about the cropped 4k50/60p mode! I was hoping that the new firmware release of November 24 would give us a non-cropped option. But apparently not ... On the Panasonic S series facebook page, someone claimed that the S1H is not capable to do that. But I really doubt that! Contacting Panasonic, they could not give any satisfying answer.
    L-Mount: I bought the Lumix S Pro 24-70mm as my main work horse, but I hesitate to buy more L-Mount lenses. I am thinking about buying some Cine lenses from IRIX. They deliver them in L-Mount, but I really really hesitate. I think I will go with PL or Canon EF ( I have the MC-21 adapter), just to be able to use these lenses on other cameras in the future.

      @@creativenords I have been literally ripping my hair out trying to compare a camera to get. I am tired of the student film look that cameras give trying to make like film films. Do you feel like you lost that cinematic touch for the a7siii? I also have the a7iii so do you think I would just sell that to upgrade? or should I keep my a7iii also?

      Yes the R5C is now my current main camera. Very happy with it so far. However I have an S5 as backup just because I just love the image from Panasonics S series.
