CarnEvil Arcade Tutorial - Quickest Method to download and get it working on Windows 10 or 11

So I am glad that so many of you have had success with getting the game to work with my original video back in 2020( • Carnevil Tutorial : Ho... ). However, as time as moved forward I have been getting messages about the game not working on Windows 11 systems. Back in 2020 Windows 11 was just being introduced and the version of Mame that I had for the original tutorial was an older version. Now, Windows 11 is becoming the norm and the older version of mame is just not cutting it.
So fast-forward to today, with the help of some fellow youtubers, we have figured out a stable ROM and Mame system that works well with Windows 11 and most Windows 10 systems. However, this video is a bit different from the normal tutorial and or DIY. This video with explain how to run Mame-0230-64bit with preconfigured standalone systems. No need to move files or anything, just down load either preconfigured CarnEvil Mame System and click on the file.
The only additional step will be to calibrate your mouse or lightgun to the actual one you have plugged in...ie just getting the reticle in the right place.

1ST - Go into advanced options and under input options check mouse and uncheck the joystick.
2ND - You have to calibrate the mouse.
When you start the game the screen with "CarnEvil 1.0.3" appears, press F2
This will take you to the Diagnostic Screen.
Navigate using + (up) and - (down)
Highlight : GUN CALIBRATION and press ( F2)
Here you can calibrate the left (green) gun (ie: the mouse)
Follow the directions to get the mouse calibrated as a light gun (The screen will have you move the crosshair to an “X” in the top left corner, once on it fire(in the case of your mouse the right mouse button is your fire button) then the “X” will appear in the lower right corner. Place your crosshair on it and fire/click again. Finally it will have you fire at the center of the screen.
It will default to the right gun, press G three times to go back to the menu.
***If the right light gun calibration does not recognize the “G” key you will have to do the following:
Press Tab: Press Input this Machine: Scroll to P2 - Button 1: Press Enter: Press G: Press Tab to exit***
Now Press “G” 3 times, the menu will reappear, scroll to exit and press F2
Last - You can assign buttons to your own preference by pressing TAB
Scroll to : Input (This Machine) (Assign button by pressing Enter on the field and then hitting the key you want to assign on the keyboard)
Important Keys to assign:
P1 button 1 - right mouse button (this is your fire button)
P1 button 2 - left mouse button (this is your reload)
1 Player Start - 1
Coin 1 - 5

Hey! I just wanted to say thanks for compiling everything together for us. Made the set up a breeze. I’ve been wanting to play this game for a few years now but was never sure how to set it up. I just got through the first level and am loving it! Still have to calibrate my cursor, but for now the game works. Thanks a whole ton!
And for anybody else, the game did freeze when I first started it, but it works just fine after launching it again. I did have to restart my PC because I couldn’t get to task manager. But everything works fine now. I’m on Windows 11 too if that helps.
Glad I could help, yeah I have found despite my best efforts to make everything run smoothly for others, there is a bit of tweaking on the users part to make the final adjustments. Enjoy!
Thank you so much for making this video. I've been wanting to emulate Carnevil for a while. I love arcades and Carnevil has been stuck in the back of my mind for years after stumbling upon it in a dead mall arcade. Absolute fever dream of a game but I'm so happy to have it on my burner PC. I'll be playing it late tonight and probably every Halloween from now on.

Hey, I downloaded the pre-organized file for the mouse version and when I opened up mame within the file and tried to boot up the game it told me that “one or more of the required rom or chd images is missing” and to “choose a different machine” even tho it said the sound and video were good and it’s labeled as working, any idea what’s up with mine? On windows 10 btw
Sorry for the delay, what type of computer are you using? ie: brand, processor, and speed? I find that older systems running windows run better with the older version of mame and my other CarnEvil rom that I reference from my original video back in 2020. I'll test my downloads to see if something got messed up when I uploaded them to the server.
@@Vincent_Serpico most of my stuff is AMD Radeon like my cpu and gpu so relatively new I believe
@@momsspaghetti0079 mmmmm...well, I tested it on my end and it was working even on my older system which sometimes I get some audio lag. Try deleting it and doing a fresh download. See if that does not solve the issue. Your system, since its newer, should work well with this version of mame. Let me known if that solves the issue, if not I''ll continue to try and trouble shoot for you.
I do have 7zip on my computer for modding games and when I did try to boot it up 7zip told me to extract the files so could that be interfering with it at all?
@@momsspaghetti0079 Yes, you need to extract the files from the zip file 1st, then open up the folder and run it from there.
I tried to load this into launchbox but it didn't seem to work. It worked outside of launchbox, and I made a seperate emulator add for the older version of MAME that was able to launch this version of Carnevil, but it doesnt work in LB. any ideas? Thanks for your contributions in trying to fix all this haha. its appreciated
I've actually never tried it in Launchbox, so unfortunately I don't have any suggestions, sorry.
i have a question. downloaded the vr version of it and it doesnt display right. only shows like little teeth raining down from the sky video and a choppy figure of a person laying down
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the new VR version, so I wont be able to help you with that. Actually, I didn't know that a VR version had been released. Sorry I co uh old not help. My version should work for you though if your looking to play.

Is your system older, meaning the computer your running it on? Also, are you using Windows 11 or 10?

@@hauntsandamusements did you use the ROM that I provide for the older system? It is different from the one that would have been downloaded with Mame0230_64bit? You will have to follow the calibration video when you use the older system with the mouse. Om still not sure what would be causing your sound issue. Do you know what your processor speed is?
Can this work on an android phone?
@chattclouds8281 I have not tried it, but have not heard of anyone actually playing on their phone.
