  • Stuck fencing someone who has strong second intention with good separation of distance? Just can't get those direct actions to work? Perhaps it's time to think creatively and make all that distance disappear in an instant.
This lesson is going to look at an example of transitioning from a distance setup to an infighting platform to land a touch. In particular, this will examine how making a parry from distance, and then crushing the distance with an articulated reposte in prime, can lead to a winning solution to a tough situation.
Note: this video is not intended as a coaching lesson but as an outline for exploring the video content on your own, with fellow foilists, or with your coach. Interpretation, instruction, and articulation of actions may differ from coach to coach.

This is EXACTLY what I want to learn! My repostes after 4 parry are always too straight to be counter-parried. I will try this strategy in today's practice!

Correct: My repostes after 4 parry are always too straight and easy to be counter-parried.

I have a question: what if it’s a leftie with a leftie ? Would it be the same way or different and how?

The setup and execution of this action would be the same as demonstrated by the two right-handed fencers in the video. The scenario will be the same apart from the fencers being left-handed and, by extension, perhaps less comfortable with their sense of distance.
