A counter time action is used against an opponent who is attempting a stop-hit or counter-attack against you while you are in the process of attacking. You are, essentially, initiating a parry to their counter action while attacking. This is risky should the situation not be appropriate for the action as it results in your blade not travelling towards the target for a portion of the attack (this means the point may be moving in a direction other than the target).
