Hey gang - just a heads up, but I actually checked with the book and realized that I changed the first exercise (slightly).
    The actual pattern for Ex.1 is = 1-2 2-3 3-4 | 3-4 3-4 3-4
I didn't add the extra 3-4 movements at the end, and that REALLY adds to this exercise, but I left it out to make the first exercise a little easier.
Also, the descending version of #5 is slightly different than the original notation/book. For some reason, Segovia wrote that exercise differently in the descending version, and I never understood why.
Every exercise in the slur area of the book is a mirror-image when ascending/descending, except for that one - so I changed it to be the reverse of the ascending version.
Anyway, nothing major here as far as mistakes, but I realized these changes after the fact and now I wish I would've added/changed (or at least mentioned) them in this lesson.
Have fun, good luck, and may the Force be with you...always.
    🙂👍

I actually saw Segovia in 1972. He was so well respected. I feel very fortunate.

Wow you are really raising the bar! Excellent..no need to apologize. Heard of Segovia as a teenager. Many years ago. Listened to his pieces and I learned .
The old saying " learn to listen, listen to learn

I believe Segovia is the reason the guitar is as popular in the modern world as it is today.

5:12 Another great tip to add to these exercises, is keeping your pinky down, For example, when you start at the low E string, you place your index finger on the first fret. BUT at the same time you put your pinky finger on the A string on the fourth fret. The string under it. That is the starting position. Then you keep your pinky finger down while your alternating up and down the fretboard with the other fingers. And then only move the pinky up to the E string when you need to use it. And then you put it back down on the higher string out of the way to help you learn how to hold it down. The idea being to try and keep your pinky low / It is a tricky pinky move to use it then quickly rest it on the higher string. You can reposition your hand every five frets. So right after you use your pinky going up, move your hand and land on the next fret up with your middle finger while resting your pinky on the higher string and finish the altering or hammering on or pull off using the index. When you do the jump up five frets, your middle and pinky should land in their positions at the same time. Then if you add in ami picking with your right hand, your in for a wonderful journey.

I think Segovia was just trying to get his students to wear down the frets evenly.
    J/K 😂

Hey Dave. There was an article in Guitar World way back in 1990 (yes, I still have it) where Steve Vai gave his "ten hour workout." He claimed he did them every day as a new player and many of them were the same or similar to this so I've got to wonder if he picked up that book or learned it from someone who did. I believe the magazine reprinted it about ten years ago as I've seen the newer version available.

Umm, just in case you're serious, go watch a video of him playing _Leyenda_ at age 92. lols
That's the hardest thing I ever learned, and I used to transcribe things like Bach and Paganini violin concertos.

Before Segovia, the guitar was relegated to a novelty instrument. Segovia brought it to prominence and respectability. Hence the ascension of the guitar to its status in the music world and the existence of electric guitar icons. Ironically, Segovia had disdain for the electric guitar.

I first heard of Segovia when I was a kid watching Eddie & The Cruisers when that young brash hot headed guitar kid smarts off to dude and says “who are hell are you pal, Segovia?!” Lol. Aside from that I wonder what Segovia would of thought about guys like Jimi and EVH lol
