The freedivers are real, no CGI. For me they symbolize the origin of life from the ocean as well as "diving deep" into your personal history and the history of life in general.

The behind the scenes videos are somewhat random in terms of subject matter. They are not just about the album itself, but also about the band and the people around.
Nothing is cut in the scene on the beach. The freediver is hanging upside down from the ceiling of a cavern. The water that splashes onto the beach is the air on the ceiling. Only the camera is twisted. The scenes are from this film. The camera was used by his wife, who is also a freediver:

Floor is deliberately mixed weakly here. She is one of the ghosts and can therefore only be heard faintly. Troy at the end is the present and can be heard clearly.

This is exactly what I've been waiting for! It's great to see Cindy joining in this time. Nightwish has delivered another amazing song that really makes the listener think. You're not just here on earth by chance; a lot has happened to make your existence possible. In all the daily hustle and bustle, it's easy to forget that. They've consciously chosen to make Floor and the instruments an integral part of the chorus, symbolizing that we, along with our ancestors, are part of the 'chain of life'.
I'm eagerly awaiting the realease of the new album (September 20th).
I'm not sure how many more episodes of the 'making of' documentary there will be, but it's definitely worth watching. It's also nice to see how they are working in Röskö, especially since we stayed there just before they did. A few familiar places!

Nightwish always makes you think, and I love it. Their music keeps my mind healthy and sharp. There is too much BS in this world right now, and I am glad that Tuomas does, what he does.
After all, he IS Nightwish (Metal Mozart,founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer).
And now, my new favorite quote: "YOU ARE THE DREAM OF MANY ANCESTORS"...what a statement !!!

Floor was not able to record the album with the rest of the band at the "Nightwish Camp" due to her being pregnant with her second daughter - once she gave birth to Lucy, the Nightwish gang went to her & Hannes home studio and did all of the vocals there - also those divers are real as Tuomas has named them - I believe a husband-wife combo - it does look like they added some sort of computer program enhancements but they were real divers

Lots of people dislike that Floor's vocals are a bit submerged, I can see what they mean but it doesn't bother me - I never pick up lyrics straight away anyway, and I think as a soundscape it's good. This is a year that's made me think about anniversaries and personal history - 20 years since I came to Sheffield, 40 since I first stood on stage as part of a band, 60 as an independent entity in this world, 80 since my dad went to mainland Europe with the British army, 100 since my youngest aunt died. And that's just a century of history for one person! The oldest family history I know is some ancestors coming to England while fleeing religious persecution in the 1570s. And I have human ancestors going back millions of years before that, as does everyone. Amazing.
It does make us all reflect on our history.

Tesserae of the deceased is a poetic way of saying that we are a mosaic or composite of all of our ancestors. Eudaemonia is an ancient Greek word that doesn't directly translate into English but roughly means a state of existence that is a combination of well-being, flourishing, and living well. In Aristotelian ethics, eudaimonia is considered the highest human good, and the only good that's desirable for its own sake. So " Lives lived plain and epic. Of eudaemonia" means that every life, no matter how plain or simple, is an epic and amazing journey and we should all have a sense of gratitude and desire to live lives meaningful to us. For me this song continues the themes of the preciousness of life that is a reoccurring theme on the Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human Nature albums. The fact that each of our unique selves exists at all is a miracle that should be cherished and celebrated.

Great reaction! We know Nightwish, their mastery in anything they do; everything they do has a purpose case in point Floor’s vocals “blending in”! We love Nightwish like no other, so we should NOT BE SURPRISED, but I for one was absolutely floored, mind blown into millions of pieces 🤯, again! After consuming daily fast food music, Nightwish takes us to the fancy restaurant serving an unmatched 12-course musical experience - cannot wait for September 💙 I am closing on 70 and IMHO there has never been, there will never be, another Tuomas Holopainen; Nightwish; Floor ❤️🔥

They are all famous free divers. Their names are in the info box below the original video. The lantern fish and some other animals are obviously cgi, but not the whales. They and their comnunicating with divers are real. Wonderful reaction, thanks! ⛄👍

I love this song...and at the same time that my line ends with me. I have 3 brothers and a sister that have procreated to keep our line going. Unfortunately, I have a very rare blood disorder that predisposes me to having deadly blood clots. I just couldn't justify passing on the genes to my children. My father and grandfather both passed from blood clots, and I was lucky enough to know the signs of DVTs and got to the hospital quickly!

I think some of the muddling in the big chorus parts is partly due to distortion sometimes added by the online playback tech.
The diver is a famous French free diver. The footage is from his show. The resolution of the video was scaled down to match it since some of the footage was at a lower resolution and they didn't want the transitions to be jarring.

I love you reactions❤ it’s brilliant! you can so easily find the little hints that Tuomas and the other band members wanted to bring out. what a huge number of Easter Eggs you can find in this song. This is at least as big a song as "Poet and the pendulum" and "Greatest show on the earth". I love this song even though my first reaction was that it was a strange song.
They always do such creative, deep messaging. I love it.
Keep in mind, several of those books are his books/journals on species he came upon and "classified" (often incorrectly). Darwin generally prepared and ate one of everything he found.

Thanks for your great reaction to this masterpiece. Here's some probability calculations:
Step 1. Probability of a boy meeting a girl to have a romantic relationship with: one in 20,000.
Step 2. Probability of that same boy knocking up that same girl: one in 2000.
Step 3. Probability of right sperm meeting right egg: one in 400 quadrillion.
Step 4. Now lets assume that you have just those 12 generations of ancestors mentioned in the intro to this song. For the probability of every one of those 12 generations of your ancestors having reproduced successfully with right sperm having met the right egg is (20k x 2k x 400 quadrillion) to the 12th power. Going backwards in time with even more generations of your ancestors, we soon reach a probability of 1 divided by the number of atoms in the entire universe. This makes each one of us a unique miracle.
P.S. Most, if not all, of the free diving sections are taken from Guillaume Néry's short film "One Breath Around The World", which you can watch on his YT channel. His thongs are in fact extra weight to adjust his buoyancy.

Tesserae are the tiny pieces a mosaic is composed from. Tuomas is comparing the tesserae with dna that is going to live on in a completely different being (born into another world). For me the best line of this song.

So pleased you’re carrying on with your Nightwish journey, there is so much more amazing music to discover with them. However, there were a lot of pauses and it did make an already long song even longer, making your reaction lack flow.
Yesterwynde is a made up word. They didn't know what to call the album, how to express what they wanted, so Troy made it up. It's the 3rd in a trilogy of albums, along with Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human:II:Nature, all dealing with life, science, nature, evolution ,etc. The mix was intentional, Floor is a part of the chorus on ancestors. I wasn't sure about it at first, also thought it was hard to hear Floor, but after learning the lyrics, it has become a non issue, I can hear her just fine. Of course, as we all know, Nightwish is a live band, so when we finally get a live, it shouldn't be an issue at all. But, any live won't be anytime soon as they are taking a break and have said they won't tour the album. Rumors say 2026 before we see them on the road again.
Eudaimonia is a Greek word, literally translating to "Good Spirit", but commonly translated to "happiness" or "welfare" . Yes I looked it up, after hearing the song the first time.

still dont like the chorus it just doesn't work, it becomes muddled and you cant understand the words and that should never be the case with clean singing! Rest of the song is great, which is a shame. Hopefully it is not a sign that I will not like the mixing of the whole album! I truly am surprised as if they wanted her to blend in with the choral then just record her with the choral, so simple but anyway, should be great live as it wont be possible to reduce the Floors voice in such a way (one hopes)

@@harrystarink4425 even the greatest of masters make errors of judgement! Given the feedback from a lot of different people it seems that maybe he did do something that doesn't appeal. It is always a risk when you put your art out there for others to look upon that they may judge it not as worthy as some of your art that came before.

From what I understood, Tuomas' intention was for Floor's voice to be part of the ancestors and not to rise above them. At the end you hear Troy sing the lyrics again as if he were still alive. And once you know the text, you will also understand Floor. I think it's genius. And as for this choice of Tuomas, he is an artist, and it is not up to us to improve him. That is fatal for his artistry. You cannot tell a painter that he should have painted not 2 but 3 trees. But so many people, so many opinions, and that is everyone's right. Maybe the Apple version is better suited for you You hear her voice better there. Greetings Harry
@@harrystarink4425 yeah I understand his motivation if you like to call it that it is more the execution of it that confuses me. I have heard plenty of songs that have gone for this type of feel and executed it better. the fact that he has commented on it suggests he feels people haven't heard what he hoped they would. I say this as normally he does not ever comment on his music. Critique is important to artists as if everyone just happily agrees then the artist assumes it is all great and doesn't continue to strive for greatness. So in this case I am ok to be one who doesn't think it worked well as it could. Cheers Michael.
