Great video and review idea. Never seen anyone do one like this. Good results too. I have a sfs imp mk2. Great little guns for ferals inside the barns.
@@kevsmith972 You don’t see Imps on the second hand market very often. Says a lot about SFS work! If one comes through the shop second hand I will try and get hold of it and do a direct comparison. Thanks for watching!
Notes from an old curmudgeon. When I was a kid 60 years ago I had an aged BSA Cadet .177. I enjoyed it immensely and despite its low power I think that I became proficient with it, but I always fired standing up and with open non-adjustable sights so allowances for wind and range were made by experience and practice. Practice is everything - you never have to think about how you hold your rifle or how to breath when firing. I am in no position to give you any advice but I wonder if your grouping might improve if you replace your wobbly table with something more rigid. You make interesting videos and I enjoy them. Thank you for your time and trouble in making them
@@davidwelch6796 Yes that table is well past it’s sell by date. Unfortunately the one I got to replace it is even worse. Guess I know what I am asking for this Christmas! Thank you for your kind comments David. It really makes the effort worth while.
Great review of a great little gun,you do know that with time that tune will get better. Give it a few hundred pellets and the results will come. I look at a spring gun of any make as a platform for better things with a tune up.
Been looking forward to this..interesting stuff, I'm sure once the spring settles in the power will increase a bit and even out,and you're right if you relax and practice those groups will tighten up..I think all weihrauch's require a degrease +appropriate re-lube from factory and with the work you've done +the quality of build you now own an heirloom rifle for you and your kids to enjoy 👍👍
Both great reviews about the 99S mate👍 You will get one centimeter groups with some more practicing, I do like to have something soft under my right elbow that will raise my arm a bit. The tuning won't make the 99 directly way more accurate but more easy to shoot because of a smoother, less jumpy shooting cycle and that will result in better groups. Thanks for showing, Cheers!
@@gardenguns My "problem" is that i own many springers and i'll never get really used to one because all of them need some different hold. I have to shoot some shots first to find out the best hold again. Shooting springers is always a challenge 😁
Great Video....remember the Mantra..the more I practice, the luckier I get....😉 I've got a couple of 99s and they are both tuned....one by Sandwell Fieldsports....the other by Me using Lynn Lewington glided drop in Kit. Both Excellent Rifles....both providing the best accuracy when given a diet of H&N FTT. Give them try. Keep up the great work 👍
I highly recommend Sandwell field sports tuned 99s.. mind blowing 👌and I’ve been shooting, and messing about with air guns for 40 years, Sandwell 99 is the best tuned air rifle I’ve ever come across, and it’s not just mine everyone I know that bought one after using mine said the same👌
Very interesting video, i am lucky to have a few HW springers and have been thinking of tuning a couple of them. As for the shooting, your results are not that bad, I shoot PCP and springers and my results vary each time. I have definitely got better with springers over time but need more range time. A noteable twang reduction thats for sure!!
On my Weihrauch 99S I used H&N Field Target Trophy 5.53 mm 0.95 g to get 188 M/S and 11.65 Lbs/Ft.I fitted a TbT kit and removed 3 turns from the mainspring.I did not use buttoning or delrin rings. I just re-greased the gun. I did fit an Aussie Green piston seal and used silicone grease on it,s bearing surface!. Now? No buzz! Nolong recoil! Just "THUD"! Did NOT need a spring compressor! I certainly DID on my Feinwerkbau 127!...LA5 Warton Lancs
Hi mate, if you do some chrono testing with a selection of different pellets you will likely discover your 99 produces significantly more muzzle energy with the lightest pellets (typically RWS Hobby 11.9gr). Of course what matters more is to select which pellets group best with that rifle and practice a lot to learn the trajectory and hone your technique. AA Field 16gr, H&N FTT 14.66gr, Webley Mosquito 14.35gr, JSB Jumbo Express 14.35gr are quality pellets worth trying. My HW99 does well with those JSB Jumbo 15.89gr, every barrel is different. It can really help to rest the rifle on your hand with the bag supporting your hand.
@@Beesa10 I have tried some of those pellets. Mine seems to like the RWS Super Domes. I will give the ones I don’t have a try. Always good to keep testing! All the best for 2025 👍
hi how many different pellets have you tested ? it does not jump about much which is what springer tuning is all about maybe a stock upgrade and flog that one .maybe a barrel sleeve. maybe get the trigger sears polished please after a few tins of pellets let us know if the power has crept up
Just wondering do you have to do this to every new air gun you buy. Here in Australia a hw cost $1000 approximately I can understand having to do it to a $300 gun but to spend this amount on a top of the range gun and have to spend another $300 to get it right.I just don't get it 😢
Tighter pellet groups aren't just down to the person shooting the rifle, a lot of it also has to do with the best suited pellets for the rifle barrel. Out of 123 different pellet brands and weights that I've tested so far, my .22 cal Weihrauch HW99S prefers: RWS Hobby, BISLEY Super Field, Air Arms Accuracy Plus, BSA Target, BISLEY Magnum, Rangemaster Sovereign Hunter, Air Arms Diabolo Hunter, JTS Wadcutter, and FX 18.10g.
I think the same shooting technique applies to all rifles so springers are no different to shoot really . The two most important things I feel are trigger control and follow through . Don't pull the trigger or squeeze it - think SMOOTHLY closing the gap to the back of the trigger guard , and DONT release the trigger until you see the impact on the target through the scope .
@@martybennett1861 Totally agree. To get good consistent shot placement breathing and trigger control is the key. However I find with the PCP’s consistency in hold has less of an effect than it does with springers.
