Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
I guess I just feel like
I guess I just feel like
Nobody's honest, nobody's true
Everyone's lyin' to make it on through
I guess I just feel like I'm the same way too
[Interlude]
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
[Verse 2]
I guess I just feel like good things are gone
And the weight of my worries is too much to take on
I think I remember the dream that I had
That love's gonna save us from a world that's gone mad
I guess I just feel like
What happened to that?
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
I guess I just feel like the joke's gettin' old
And the future is fading and the past is on hold
But I know that I'm open and I know that I'm free
And I'll always let hope in wherever I'll be
And if I go blind, I'd still find my way
I guess I just felt like givin' up today
[Outro]
Mmm, yeah, yeah

This is the song they play in the movie when the main character is reflecting on their mistakes while they're grabbing moving boxes

John Mayer is the last pop artist keeping the electric guitar solo alive. Keep fighting the good fight, John!
Luis Camacho don’t forget to mention Gary Clark Jr!!!
@@janvanmaanen6589 Gary Clark Jr. isn't really a pop artist
Gary is more of a Blues/rock artist I think
How about the 1975 and LANY
because he's the only one with a really strong blues background. He spent more of his life playing the blues than anything else.
I feel like John went through all 5 stages of grief in one song. I bow down to the Master of current songwriters.
1. Denial 2. Anger 3. Depression 4. Bargaining 5. Acceptance. If someone is reading this today, I am so sorry for your pain, and I pray to the universe to give you healing, peace and acceptance. Truly, may you find peace and the answers you are needing, 🙏 SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND.
Thanks for this insight, never thought about that. He's truly an incredible songwriter.
So totally true.... his voice heals me... I’ve been letting him serenade me to sleep during these Covid sleepless nights....This song hits it on the nail....
I needed to read this. Thank you so much and many blessings on your journey.
You put into words what I was feeling when I first heard this song. Because, I was taken aback by the emotion, and the beauty and brilliance of it. Bravo JM 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. This too shall pass friends. Look for the beauty & blessings, cherish them, and share them.
Thank you brother

John, I'm 63 years old and I've been a music lover and musician for 60 years. The only contemporary artist who can make me really cry hard during a song is you, my friend. Sometimes beautiful music just fills me up past the fill line. That's when the tears come. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is the guy, who would make very funky song with really sad lyrics (Still feel like your man). Very authentic and inspiring guy.

This whole song is good, but the outro is something else. It's perfect, some of the best stuff he's ever done. Smooth, epic, effortless, perfect. It speaks to his strength as a songwriter that even now, decades into his career, he can write stuff that parallels his greatest work.

Every so often John Mayer goes deep into his soul and pulls out a magical song. Really beautiful music. CANNOT WAIT TO HEAR THIS LIVE IN APRIL in the Asia tour In Hong Kong. Great stuff. A song about growing older and dealing with this rubbish world but not giving up.

I think he adresses the fact that he knows he turns sour every once in a while, is the same as the stuff he doesn’t likes, but that it’s ok. Just remember to be part of the solution more than of the problem every once and a while.

Yup
Correct me if I'm wrong: but if you listen closely, you CAN hear bits of 'Theme from The Search for Everything', 'Emoji of a Wave' (2:15-2:22) and the entire solo section at the end has the 'If I Ever Get Around to Living' vibe to it.
It's such a beautiful feeling when an artist reminds you of his other songs through his newer songs- you feel like you've immersed yourself completely into his universe, and what's better than being a part of this beautiful world created by John Mayer 😊❤️

John mayer is the reason life feels worth living
sadly, i agree.
Odd song choice for this comment, but I get you.
I think this is one of the most well rounded songs John has released in years. It really appeals to everyone. It’s pop, but with a really funky and bluesy solo at the end. Because there’s always us guitar players that are just begging and pleading for him to show off his srv blues chops more often. And with every album it appeared as if he was straying farther and farther away from his roots. This is somewhere in between, and it’s a great start. I really like this tune. Lyrically it’s so accurate for me in regards to how I feel a lot of the time. John has an uncanny knack for being able to make songs that are so relatable and true for a vast majority of people. Feeling that connection with an artist is so important. Bravo John.
Jackson Browne would be proud.
Couldn't have said it any better 👏
True. John's albums don't always do justice to how good of a guitar player he is. Watching John live is the only way to hear how good he is. This solo reminds me of his live playing.
I agree with this comment except where you said that he's straying from his roots. I think The Search For Everything had the best guitar of any album he's released. Still Feel Like Your Man and Moving On + Getting Over were pure genius.
I don't know if it's just me but I get some country vibe out of this one
I'm getting that gritty, muddy, Crossroads tone from John's outro solo.
Awesome.
i was thinking exactly that!
As a beginner guitar student I was introduced to this song by my teacher - and through that introduction, to John Mayer's music. Can't believe he's been under my radar until now. He is simply one of the best.
listen covered in rain
Similar for me, I had a friend show me Neon - live at Nokia and it inspired me to learn guitar. That was at the beginning of 2020 I think, and I still can’t play neon 😂
i was introduced by my teacher too
@@bannanagrams3809 Learning that would require MANY hours of studious practice, even for an advanced guitarist. It's a doozy. Especially if you have trouble using your left thumb to fret the 6th string; a quintessential Hendrix/Mayer style point.
Outside of the realms of metal, most modern guitar players are short on modern icons. Mayer is one of the few that are popular and available. It's no secret that his main fan base is the ladies, and so those of us who had found Mayer circa 2001, did so because of our girlfriends/wives. Had my wife not been playing RFS album, and Neon, specifically, I may have never picked up on Mayer. His radio image is different than his actual musical quality.
Continuum is the greatest modern guitar album, in the last 20 years ESPECIALLY FOR TONE, but also for content quality. Yet his songwriting is so good, Born & Raised and Paradise Valley are OUTSTANDING, as well. Joe Bonamassa is close, but he can't write like Mayer.
Old school mayer. the ending had a feel of if i ever get around to living
I can hear some Grateful Dead influence too.
In the last verse he changes 'feel' to the past tence 'felt' which signifies it was just a passing moment. Just in case you didn't pick up on that.
true, the last verse is super important for the whole song, love it. and love the positivity at the end.
I believe that "...felt like giving up today" signifies suicide. It makes it ironical considering the line that just came before it.
DissonancePlays i think the same way too
@@idontwannabeanonymous4725 A tragic song indeed. Hits me hard especially since someone close to me killed himself in November '17.

Best writing since the title track of 2012's "Born and Raised" album, in fact since "Stop this train" from 2006's Grammy-winning "Continuum". Given the toxicity of today's social media, the general disillusionment among millenials and the endless search for elusive love and meaning, this is timely, this is apt, this has great healing potential.
The guitar playing in the beginning reeks of the outro in the live performance of "In Your Atmosphere" which featured in 2007's Where The Light Is concert. There's a bit of 2017's "Emoji Of A Wave" in the short riff at the bridge, and the solo in the concluding part is pretty much "If I Ever Get Around To Living". After all that goofing in "New Light", this is refreshing, this is soulful, this is the John Mayer we know and love. Blue-ocean-floor deep, this.

@@1sm08 csn man
@@srvfan25 Agreed! The backing track to the solo immediatly strikes me as MK infuenced, two of my favorite players.
I love this song so much. There are times that "I feel like giving up today". But I hang on for my precious brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Thank you John.
Waiting for this single since october tease. JM never fails me
Thank you, John. Just what I needed.
Music is the universal language of humanity!
Only John Mayer can make such a heavy song sound like a feel-good tune.
Its amazing to see the calmness this song is. Imagine late spring night. You are sitting alone in an empty stadium. The world's rushes through your earphones and this song comes up and u realise the harsh truth of the world.
John mayer is god.
How often are you in an empty stadium?
Just when I think I found my favorite John Mayer song, I stumble upon another
Been waiting for this since i heard it live on Iheartradio!!!!!!
Soulful Mayer. Smooth Isaiah Sharkey.
this was the first song I listen after my father died... It's been a week and I miss him a lot.
Hey Greg, mine passed 6 years ago. Hope you've found some peace. Hugs
@@llttrr still miss him, but I'm ok now
Omg I'm so sorry I lost my father too last April the 4th exactly ❤
This is kind of a long comment so forgive me but I've been thinking about these lyrics all day. Over the last few years, I've been dealing with bosses and family members that make me feel this exact same way. I was laid off 2 weeks before Christmas this past year without warning because the business was failing and he never told me things were that detrimental so I greeted the holiday season jobless. My dad also has been a liar and has let me and my sister down over and over again to the point where he is uninvited to my sister's wedding. I don't want sympathy or anything, I'm just trying to say that sometimes people you want to trust and rely on are shitty and will let you down. That's life though and it's okay to take care of yourself first. It's okay to take a day off from the drama, shut your phone off, and do what is therapeutic to you. As sad as this song feels, it ironically makes me feel empowered and ready for the future. Again, I apologize for the long and rambling comment.
There is hope Dei...hang on....Dei...just hang on...
hey... just hang in there girl.. it can't rain all the time! Keep your chin up and fight on
Forgive and let it go. Let people be people. Like the song says "I'm the same way too". Nearly everything you feel that's been done to you, someone has felt you've done it to them. I hope that relationship with your father grows back into love and acceptance.
I hope this reply finds you better off than you were two years ago 🤗
@@bl4454 Thank you so much. I just returned from a cabin trip with my best friends so I'm feeling much better.
Optimism.
A ballad about how one has decided to hit the re-set button of how to live life, even if blind, and then go forward.
I don't know how this song didn't hit the charts harder. Maybe the world's not ready for the real feels this song brings.
no electronic, no nudity, no mumbling rappers = hardly hit the charts
This one of the most honest and perfect songs I’ve ever heard, it literally depicts so much of what’s wrong in the world with every lyric
