The marker metal replica looked really odd. Like it's made of two pieces bolted together.

It is made from two separate pieces. One of the spirals is cut and placed on the other portion of base/spiral.

What Colton said. the reasoning for this is most likely because it was easier to get the inscription on the inside area rather than having it be one piece
