- Amidst the Fallout 76 debacle, I decided to take a look back at some of the worst and weirdest collector's edition games of all time. I've gathered 10 of them, in no particular order, all of which had their own unique flaws and shortcomings.

If you use the wayback machine to view the ad for power armor bag. On June 14, 2018, the original ad said it was canvas. They changed it on November 29 to nylon after taking months and months of orders. They deserved every bit of backlash.

The Mass Effect Andromeda Collector’s Edition didn’t contain the game...

people talk alot of shit but i honestly feel like they could have avoided flak by simply taking the Mass Effect off the title. people were still salty about how 3 ended and Andromeda has nothing to do with Mass Effect outside of it being in the same universe.

Same with Red Dead Redemption 2. There was a big box with a bunch of special items, no game.
To be fair I actually like that game the firefights were Epic some of the facial animations sucked but I believe the best part of that game was going to different planets that were habitable and setting up Outposts have they built upon that idea even more I think the game would have been able to get an 8 out of 10 but have they hired the original team that worked on all three Mass Effect games it would have probably gotten the 10 out of 10 the game was crippled because of EA's greed
To resident evils credit they did refuse to send out some of the broken ones and refunded them all, that's a lot more than Todd Howard did

@@imchipjames Fable 2 and 3 should have been the same game I think. Fable 2 was a great game mechanically. It still had that Fable feel but the story and voice acting was a bit lackluster. Fable 3 felt like a massive DLC full of pieces cut from 2. I loved all 3 games and still play through them to this day, but I can see where the criticism comes in. I just wish they'd made a Fable MMO and built on the world.

The Batmobile one was probably cancelled coz models of that quality typically retail at around twice as much as they were charging for that entire bundle; someone internal mustve pointed that out

The best collectors edition of recent memory was the Persona 5 take your heart edition. You got a CD, artbook, steel case, a plush, and a really nice bag as well as the game and a massive full art box for 80 quid

Yakuza 6 collector's edition (after hours) is pretty sweet, and I think it was for around 70-80 USD (here in Sweden), but yeah, generally I don't buy deluxe/collector's edition

When they announced a multiplayer fallout, I wasn't excited at all. I mean Fallout 4 on release left a bad impression on me so I didn't feel like buying another one of their games on release anyway.

@@Graham567 Not only that, but they have to release Starfield before then. This probably means it better be good or they will definitely lose a lot of potential sales. Plus, I have already lost hope in Bethesda's Starfield and TES:VI because they already mentioned that they will run in the same engine. I don't give a shit if the graphics look amazing, I DO NOT want to have to deal with the same bugs and glitches from Fallout 3 and Oblivion in a game that will be more than a decade older than either of those games.
The RE6 jacket shown at 16:09 is actually by a company called Soul Revolver who do make extremely high quality leather jackets either out of Nappa Leather. (Comfy and Mobile) I've gotten a few jackets from them and fuckin love em! If you plan on getting a quality leather jacket especially a replica one I reccomend hitting their website. Jackets usually are around $300+ and they usually have sales every now and then
Nappa leather really is weird like that, it looks really good in pictures but odd and flimsy with your own eyes, despite being high quality, so I get that a lot of people were confused and felt ripped off. It also even feels really light and un-leathery.
That being said, it's not really what I want from a leather jacket and judging from the backlash, neither did the people who bought that collector's edition. I also returned a jacket of the same material.
@@drivernephi2212 I’ve actually never had an issue with Nappa Leather like that. They feel and look fantastic. Soul Revolver didn’t make the jacket for the bundle sorry for not being super clear. I was talking about the specific Image of the RE6 jacket on the time stamp. Their QC is so good you get what is pictured. The collectors edition bundle looks like faux leather and like it’d flake off. Shouldn’t be more than like $100.

I only bought one collectors edition game in my life. It was mw2 and it came with night vision goggles and a tin case. The goggles worked pretty well from what I remember.
ChaoticGamer they did work pretty well. I expected them to not really function but I was surprised. I used them pretty recently a few months ago when I unpacked them and showed them to my girlfriend and yeah, just as good as I remember. Ran around the house for like 10 minutes

MW2 Night Vision Goggles at a Flea Market for $20 bucks... Still looks and works like new!
My friend also got the goggles and he said that they still work like brand new. I wish other collector editions took a note from MW2 collectors edition...
I always stumble across collector's editions of games for really cheap. I got CoD: Ghosts Prestiege edition for $40CAD, Watchdogs for $10CAD and Splinter Cell: Conviction for $2CAD. The most expensive I ever payed was $160CAD for the pro edition of Black Ops 4. I got all of these cases for basically new.

Speaking of collector's editions, Destiny 2 actually did quite a good job and I was pretty satisfied with the stuff inside. Hawthorne's messenger bag isn't very comfortable for prolonged use, but nonetheless sturdy enough for practical use and it looks quite good. The steel tube comes with a solar power bank, which works, that's it. There're also a blanket and a rope bracelet inside the tube, which I did not open. It also contains all sorts of art stuff and an invitation from Calus, while these are of decent qualities, Calus' taste for colour schemes was... questionable.
Destiny has never dissapointed with a limited edition but thats to be expected when the only way you can get them is directly from bungie and when they're so expensive

I've only gotten one collector's edition game, saw a copy of the Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice limited edition, which was only released through e-Capcom in Japan, with the game still there and some of the contents still sealed, being sold for roughly $25USD. I love the game, and $25 for a 6 year old limited edition is a pretty good deal, so I got it. The box is absolutely perfect, being a set of two cardboard drawers that would feel right at home as an object in the game and fully printed. It had the physical game, a set of visual postcards with nice print quality, a drama CD with a really nice design on the CD itself that can be viewed while keeping it sealed alongside a quality case, a soft plush of a dog in the game, and a small tote that is admittedly not high quality, but the design clearly references the game. I consider it well worth it for what I paid, but definitely don't think I would've gotten it for $80+.

I'll add Saints Row The Third to the list. I believe over half of the headphones sent with the collectors edition were broken, including mine. I ordered mine from the US, and the delivery took three months longer than expected (to NL), so when it arrived and I tested the headphones, it was already out of the period where we could return the headphones and get working ones.
I think the zombie bait bikini torso from Dead Island is awesome. The statue is well painted and high quality. Yes, it's grotesque, but that is the narrative of Dead Island Riptide, duh! I have mine proudly displayed on my games shelf to gross out unsuspecting visitors.

Oh god, Dead Island Riptide. Bad memories of that. All I remember was it was even more buggy than regular Dead Island and tons of stuff that worked in Dead Island didn't work anymore.
That statue serves as a vivid memory for me because every time I went to gamestop for like two years I could find one in the store somewhere. I’ll bet i could find one laying around there today if I looked hard enough

yeah about the opiate thing. friend of mine got addicted. i didn't take that seriously until then. it was pretty surprising. he had his head on straight, not like he was prone to addiction. he got injured pretty bad in an accident and ended up addicted to his painkillers (i guess they threw WAY too much at him). lost his wife, house, everything. his workplace fully supported him going into rehab, thankfully, and he's recovering now, and got a new house. no new wife, but this guy has zero trouble attracting girls :D charming, intelligent, good sense of humour, easy on the eyes, big fat wallet rofl that's all reasons it was incredible to have happened.
An industry contact told me that the Arkham Knight special edition was canceled due to thousands of boxes being left out in the rain and damaged before they could be shipped from China.
You forgot the Dark Souls Estus Flask. It's like the Call of Duty Canteen, but looks like it cost 50 cents to make.
Also, I love how they just continued to sell the torso in other countries that don't go out of their way to get offended.
And its the same countries that banned GTA San Andreas

The Estus Flask collector was with Prima's strategy guide, not related to the game release at all.

I remember getting the Perfect Dark Zero 'collectors edition' and it cost very little extra on top, this was a time when steelbook limited editions were sold as a standard option for a few quid more and not packed into extortionate collectors editions full of overpriced garbage like they are today.
At the time of this game's release, big expensive, premium collectors editions containing polystone statues and replicas etc weren't a common product, especially here in the UK.
It was an upfront and honest upgrade to a steel book case and a few bonus DLC codes packed in for a small price increase which was usually worth it for the case alone.
Taking all this into consideration I don't think it's really fair to be in this list.
And on one last note, regardless of what anyone thinks of it, my god, the art and embossing on this steelbook is by far and wide one of the absolute *best* steelbooks I've seen in my 2+ decades of gaming, matched only by the absolutely fantastic Witcher 3 steelbook.

God I remember seeing that godawful dead island bust in my local eb games where I'm pretty sure it sat there unsold and untouched for at least a year before it was likely thrown away

If I had to guess THIS was their best idea and it somehow got greenlit so they could say they had a statue with their edition. Just my guess, but nice statues are what draw me to collector editions so maybe that's what they were targeting?

I live in Australia where our game stop is EB games. Anyway, when fallout 76 was out for preorder for the power armour edition, sales where enormous but when the game came there where so many refunds. I know because I volunteered there. Eventually after months of us not selling any. We were told to sell the power armour edition at $10 au. We had three sales and all employees at my store where given it for free.
I've always thought the Dead Rising bust was clever.
It looks like something that you would find in a serial killer's basement and I would never own one, but it's a nice literal play on the concept of a torso bust.

I thought it was cool. I didn't understand why people thought it was upsetting despite the fact that they're literally mutilating zombies regardless. If it's the breasts that caused the problem, people weren't concerned when you get extra PP in Dead Rising for taking a picture of them

Ok, if that leather jacket was made by a top brand like for example the Noble House who are making WW2 replica leather jackets and they are kinda expensive, yes i would buy the collectors edition for 700-800$ but come on wtf are they doing?

The power armor bag just baffels me. The canvas one looks like a military tankers tool bag. Rothco makes them for like 20$. It's a military wholesale type bag, not whatever that was. How hard was it to get them.

Fallout 76 never looked good and I was pissed off when everyone was clapping at E3. It was basically fallout 4 with no story.
It wasn't supposed to be a main game. It was always intended to be spin-off. It also did get better. A review bomb was thwarted by its dedicated fanbase.

The only collector's edition I can recall ever having was for MW2. It came with a pretty neat set of night vision goggles. Weren't exactly functional, but it was a cool thing to display.

I really don't think the Re7 stuff was that bad other than the problems with the Mansion. Like it all is stuff from the game so if you really love it than it would be pretty cool collectors stuff.
I bought the gta4 collectors edition which included a really nice quality duffle bag and metal security bank lock box both of which I still use :D
