Here's a little variation of Cumbia that I do on congas. It's really fun and somewhat challenging at the same time.

Hey man, I have been meaning to write a comment to you for quite awhile and somehow just got distracted. Anyway, I want to tell you that I think you are great! You are prolific in the number of techniques and rhythms you teach. I think that is really great of you to do. I started playing the congas 3 years ago when I was 77. I still play at 80 and love it. Watching your videos has been great. Of course, I will never be a great conga player as my hand speed, though probably amazing for someone my age who only started 3 years ago, is not adequate to really be great. But I do pretty well playing along with a number of latin albums I have. But I just wanted you to know, that what you are doing is greatly appreciated and I think you are a terrific human being for doing it. God bless you and I really enjoy watching your classes AND at some of the live gigs you do. You are the best, my friend. My very best wishes!!

YOOOO THATS WHAT I DOOO!! I learned it the traditional way with the golpe abierto golpe abierto x50 but I got in the habit of doing like a acaballo typa thing with what ur doing and I thought I was doing it wrong but everyone said it sounded good so I just went with it. So glad I wasn't the only one!!

Hi Eric ! Thanks again for these nice videos you give us every week ! As a conga player they are very useful to me and I work on them every day. I loved this video concerning this cumbia pattern . I play in France in a cumbia group called "calle caribe" (you can find us on internet) with a mix of french musicians and latino musicians (from Colombia, Peru, Cuba...).
I have a request for you : could you detail in a video the variations you do on this cambia rhythm ?

Thanks for video man. My family is telling me to play the tumbas, but I want to play the piano and the bass, but they're telling me to play the tumbas and to find out why and now I did. So, in conclusion, I'm going to play 3 instruments to top it all off. One can do it if they really want to.
