    A Fixed Device is my 58th favourite shrine. It was the first shrine I had to look up the answer for so it’s lower on my list. I haven’t seen this said much, but I think the perfect DLC for TOTK would be a make your own shrine editor. A collection of ever increasing user created shrines would create unlimited replayability.

    Forward Force was the one shrine that I just couldn't wrap my head around. Granted, it was one of the first shrines I came across after landing in Hyrule so I was probably too green with the mechanics to take on the puzzles, but I still remember this shrine because of how I was able to cheese it. I basically took all the long stone/wood planks together into one long plank, fused the sphere to the end, and raised it high enough to grab it at the top of the ladder at the beginning of the shrine. I knew then and there that I was gonna have a good time with the freedom this game allowed.

    If you use recall to stop the ball when it's directly over the box, and then immediately cancel recall without letting the rewind play out, the ball falls in easily because recall stops objects' momentum.

    The only one I disagree with is The Hunt, since when I did it, even though I hung back out of their line of sight, when the roombas started attacking the constructs, the constructs didn't aggro the roombas. They aggroed ME. Even though I was on the opposite end of the shrine and never actually entered the main area, as soon as the roombas attacked the constructs, the constructs completely ignored them and ran across the entire shrine to swarm me. It was also my first Proving Grounds shrine, and it left a bitter taste towards proving ground shrines in my mouth for the rest of my playthrough.

  • @violetbluejay

    For Downward Force, I think one reason people don't think to shoot the switch between the bars is because they didn't realize that was a switch in the first place. You mentioned you went to the Gerudo first, but a lot of people just listen to what the game tells them to do through Purah and starts with Rito Village, making DF one of the earliest shrines they're all but guaranteed to encounter and almost certainly the first one where that kind of switch is used. In my case, I saw it immediately but didn't recognize it for what it was, and just wrote it off as just part of the puzzle in the next room.

    I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I actually think shrines were the only weaker thing in TotK. Especially because they removed nearly all the interesting Shrine Quests that lead you to them, in favor of just moving a crystal to the shine a bunch of times. The aesthetic of the shrines was worse in TotK too, and idk, the vibe of the puzzles just didn't impress me as much. However the Proving Grounds are miles better than Tests of Strength, so that counts for a lot.

      The genius of this is that you can solve a puzzle in so many different ways so it’s good for many types of gamers. But for us who play games pretty regularly… “I know what you want me to do, but I’ll just do this instead”. It felt rewarding at first and then it got kind of boring.

    To be fair I feel like maybe the intent of that is to tip some players off to how that can be a puzzle as they may have overlooked those puzzles in the overworld just because they didn't know to look for that type of puzzle.
    Granted that's definitely still a slim minority of players but I can at least see how it's worth adding as both a tutorial and hint.

    Funnily, Courage to Fall was actually one of my more liked shrines. I typically carry a rather devil-may-care attitude towards triumph and setback in shrines. One of my clearest memories of the game was the feelings of serendipity when I accidentally touched a laser and discovered the solutions to it. I do acknowledge that this experience isn't really exemplary of challenbging gameplay, though, and my enjoyment of it stemmed from happenstance. I would love to see your thoughts on the overworld puzzles of the Rauru's Blessing shrines.

    As I’m playing through a lot if these, I definitely do not agree with The Hunt. It takes forever for the karts to do anything of worth to the enemies and the entire idea of the shrine is completely thrown out the window when no matter how far you are, if one of them pokes a robot at least three times, they instantly spot you and just chase you to the ends of the earth. And you don’t have enough time to build another one since it leaves you wide open to highly questionable hit detection and off screen potshots. The shrine also proves that the timing for Flurry Rush feels completely off. It was just pure misery for me in general.

    • @HungryWarden
      @HungryWarden Год назад

      @@HungryWardenFlurry Rush in general is kinda hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes the window to activate it is way to long before the attack’s hit box is meant to connect and that bit me a lot even outside the shrine.

    • @HungryWarden
      @HungryWarden Год назад

      Yeah, but maybe I would be able to say that if I could even FIND any because they always have some stupid shrine quest I have to do first. I enjoyed the Tears of the Kingdom shrines more because they make you put in the appropriate amount of work for a spirit orb and in Breath of the Wild you have to first, find the shrine, which is harder to do without the Lightroots’ locations in the depths to assist you, then you might have to do a Shrine quest which 9/10 times is more effort than a single spirit orb is worth, then there’s sometimes a puzzle on the inside which I don’t mind that much. Breath of the Wild’s Shrines definitely weren’t perfect because a lot of them you probably wouldn’t even know existed without a guide.

    The proving grounds were easily my least favorite of the shrines. Two hits = death is just lame in any game, in my opinion. Especially when it’s endless fire or a random arrow across the room. I never enjoyed them even on my second playthrough. Annoyingly stressful and I don’t equate stress as fun.
    To each their own we’re all allowed to like what we like. I really liked Courage to Fall, though caught right on to the laser misdirect and can see it being really annoying for someone who got stuck.
    Forward force is great, but the ball shouldn’t be by the beginning. Too easy to cheese with Ultrahand and Recall. Just attach to the vehicle and raise it up.

      About the proving grounds shrines, we here in the gaming business call that a skill issue.

      @@DonkThikkness You forgot to capitalize “H” in “how”, and you put a period instead of a question mark at the end, don’t tell me about reading comprehension.

      @@HungryWarden 🤦 that’s GRAMMAR, sugar! Also, the sentence was a sardonic statement: the period stands and it started with your user name. Have an F, you earned it. Like your many Fs you received in school, no doubt.
