They had actually created a demo for an LA Noire spiritual sequel. It would've had the same gameplay, but it would've been a mystery set in Bangkok. But when Bondi shut down, the demo never got developed any further. Which is such a damn shame. Obviously Bondi deserved to go out of business. But I really wish somebody had bought the rights to that sequel. LA Noire was amazing, and even if the Bangkok sequel wasn't as good, I have no question it would've been at least fascinating to see what else could be done with the same mystery mechanics.

Oh I remember Check Six meeting the same fate after Spyro Enter the Dragonfly. While Equinoxe also shut down along with them because of the same game, CS has one very interesting aspect to it that I want to mention later. But I do feel bad for both companies; they were forced to make the 4th Spyro games in time for Christmas 2002. Mind you, a mere 2 years after the Insomniac era ended. Universal Studio had a lot more say over the development and it seemed to kill any chance of it being good, though also the fact that no one involved had experience making things for the Gamecube didn't help. When lead Joel Goodsell wanted to make Spyro more steampunk like Universal said "make it more Spyro." When they decided to add in Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto in response (though only the latter would be in the final product), Universal said "make it more special." Because of the troubles they were given, they were struggling financially and couldn't make the frame rate stable. All that is just a few examples of how screwed they were to the point of causing Goodsell to leave after Universal sent in Ricci Rukavina. It was really, really rough and rather upsetting, and would explain why the end product is so unfinished. Only 8 levels and a single hub world; even Spyro 1 had a lot more than that. It was their only game they released mostly because they had to cancel the other project they were working on at the exact same time. What project was that? None other than Aliens Colonial Marines which would later be made by Gearbox and apparently an outsource studio. That's right, Spyro is linked to one of the worst licensed games ever. Check Six and Equinox went under very quickly following the release while Universal still thrives to this day, for better or worse. While Ted Price was embarrassed to see what happened to their purple boy, Goodsell blamed lack of experience at the time, stating that stuff like this should be entrusted to the right people. But there's still hope, because he got to work on one of my favorite superhero based games, Spider Man on the PS4. Good luck, Spider Man 2; I'm counting on you. But all that is just the tip of the iceberg, just examples of why Enter the Dragonfly was so bad it destroyed the companies before they could get their footing. Go watch Matt McMuscles "What Happened" on it.

    • @IMEEntertainment
      @IMEEntertainment Год назад

Actually, Universal didn't have much on the side of their interactive division after the Vivendi merger. It went over to Havas/VU Games following that, so essentually Universal Interactive was just a publishing label of Vivendi Universal Games, so they were to blame for how Enter the Dragonfly ended up how it did, and how Crash Twinsanity was how it was, and everything else. And plus, they don't even exist anymore following the Activision merger.
I did hear that even when they were a Universal Pictures subsidiary, Universal Interactive were very hard to work with, to the point that the arguments they had with Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games were mostly ridden with tirades of four-letter words.
Also, the Colonial Marines PS2 title that Check Six was developing has no connection to the Gearbox disaster that came out in 2013.

[in a sinister voice] Rabbidluigi. How dare you invoke the name of my nemesis. Curt Schilling.
I went to college for game design (which has not panned for me), and my college used to have some kind of relationship with 38 Studios and Curt Schilling. They'd help sponsor Game Jams and have representatives at the school when they occurred. The idea was to recruit people from my school to 38 Studios, and for a while, the relationship seemed pretty good.
One year, 38 Studios showed up to a job fair on campus. I didn't really attend this job fair, but I heard rumors from one of my professors that the representatives from 38 Studios were apparently not intending to recruit anyone from my school that year. That was around the time they were focused on Rhode Island, so they were really looking to recruit from that area. So then... if you aren't going to try to recruit from this state, why are you even at a JOB FAIR?! Maybe it was just heresay, but it left a bad taste in my mouth about that company.
And I actually did have at least one classmate who would go work for 38 Studios, and after 38 Studios shut down, it felt like the game industry in my region generally took a downturn. So yeah, I didn't care much about Schilling back when he was playing baseball (I don't always pay attention to indivdual players), but after what happened with 38 Studios, I quickly grew to hate him. And all that happened before he started simping for "the tremendous pumpkin".
Lesser note: even Blizzard had to work their way up from smaller projects to the point of making an MMORPG, and you're trying to do that as your FIRST game? (referring to Copernicus, not Amalur)

Seriously if Dead Rising came back at all, I think taking the first game cutting the awkward fat that makes the Dead Rising Steak, in this case the Jank, like to switch between missions on the menu doesn't pause the game, so if you try to do that while in a mob of Zombies, well yeah rough, I did end up enjoying Off the Record a lot more than 2 which is a copy of the 1st game with some improvements, Off the Record felt like they found the right balance of fun gameplay while still keeping the jank that DR is known for, like if we got Dead Rising 1&2 but it borrows the improvements from Off the Record, I could actually enjoy those Dead Rising games for once along with a majority of people that never gave the games a chance, if the PS4 version of Shadow of the Colossus could do better with just improved controls alone, who's to say something similar could happen to Dead Rising.

I'm not sure about that- Forespoken's studio already existed long before Forespoken, but the game they worked on (Final Fantasy XV) had SUCH a messy development-history that Forespoken ended up becoming their "make it or break it"-moment.
Balan Wonderworld MAYBE, because Naka did say from the start that it was his final chance at making a game the way he wanted to make it (he presumably couldn't get funding from any other company), but I feel like if they gave hkm that money they can't have INTENDED it to fail. Like, Naka had no history with SE, this wasn't a favor for old times sake, they had to have seen SOMETHING in it to invest the money they did... but since all they got from that was a bunch of headlines on how Naka insider-traded a bunch of their mobile games, I think it was money they could've spent on other things.

@@PluckyInc Most likely the latter. See, that studio uses the Luminous Engine they made as a sequel for the FF 13 project's engine Crystal Tools (which was then called the Fabula Nova Crystalis-project), and was meant to be an open-world game engine. I can't remember if this engine was problematic in some specific way, but if I were to speculate- they have done two games in Unreal engine (KH3 and FF7 remake), and they're not using Luminous (or Unreal) for FF16. It would seem to me that they simply think Luminous is not a worthwhile investment if they can instead transition the workforce into the far easier Unreal engine, and make games with less troublesome development and a better return.

Vicariuos Visions was too successful with their remakes of Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk 1 & 2, and Diablo 2 that they were fully merged into Blizzard becoming Blizzard Albany

Probably cause the devs weren't very distinguished in the first place, they only had two games under their belt and neither was all that special (and I say that as someone who likes both games). So putting Luminous on the list would be recency bias when compared to more notable examples.

I'm surprised not to see Angel of Darkness here
Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was made in the era where Core Design were sick of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft, to the point where they tried to kill Lara in The Last Revelation but when that was enough, they cheaply pushed out Chronicles (Which I'd argue is worse than Angel of Darkness honestly) However then Core did get a bit of hope for Tomb Raider when the PS2 came out and so came the gruelling development of Angel of Darkness which cost them everything and they needed to succeed to keep in order to stay afloat. However the game was buggy, one of its features was underbaked and even with the tie in release of the classic Tomb Raider movies, the game sold extremely poorly resulting in the shutdown of Core Design and the Tomb Raider license would be given to Crystal Dynamics
TLDR: Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness is an example of what if Final Fantasy 7 didn't succeed
