    I have had a 2012 plate and now a new one. Done over 2,000 miles and it is superb. My advice, leave the exhaust alone. After market looks good but it's a lot of money for nothing other than the chance of manifold studs shearing. Better to spend the money on original equipment rack, top box and screen, especially if you tour like me. If you carry a passenger regularly then you may want to invest in some foot peg extenders from SIP scoters. Also I prefer a good open face helmet like Malossi. I find full face helmets claustrophobic. Al in all its a very satisfying scooter to ride and is king of A roads. I love it. Oh, I forgot to mention how stylish it is. Happy scootering.

    Great review, I would agree with you fully about the ridding experience. I have a 2018 model and will upgrade to the HPE at some stage. I have heard all sorts of things said about Vespa, many unfounded. If style and heritage isn't you I doubt you would understand but it is so much more than that. I have toured, I tootle about the West country and it thrives on winding country roads. I get over 80 mpg in mixed town and country riding. As someone who graduated on Lamberetta's back in the day before moving onto big bikes I never use a claustrophobic full face helmet so it goes under the seat. I carry a pillion almost every weekend and its fun all the way. Cheers.

    My biggest gripe is with the Gloss black version,theres already a gloss black GTS with a analogue display for £4999 so essentially with this version you are paying £1000 more just for a digital display.
    At least with the grey one your getting a unique colour in the price.
    No wonder dealers are struggling to shift the black supertechs at list price,everybody wants the grey one.

    My wife and I have a 2006 and 2009 GTS-250. The riding experience is very similar to your description, and the thought of a little more power is intriguing, but hardly necessary. I have rented other scooters on long European trips (I also own a Kymco). The Honda 300 Forza, unavailable in the States, was a great ride; powerful, great mileage, remarkable range, but the mirrors were useless, and the riding position for tall people is really inferior to my Vespa. A Burgman 650 was a hell of a ride, but again, not as likely to put a smile on your face as readily or consistently as the Vespa.
    Great review; makes me appreciate what I have, while lusting a little bit for a new one.

    Well put together review. It didn't include the "SuperTech" features, but one can get that information elsewhere. That Nero Lucido paint job is nicer than I thought (particularly with the black Super wheels), and the camera work in the first 5 minutes of this review shows it off nicely. But it's also good to see what it looks like in natural light. Well done.

      @@David-vz5mv I have sold both already. There is a compromise on each of the bike that just made it annoying to like pick which one to use. I decided to get a Yamaha Xmax as it gives me the best of both worlds. You can add Kymco xciting and Honda Adv/Forza 350 to your options. BikeMatters I live in Sourh Carolina, I think i bought one of the first 3 GTS super tech ever imported in the US. Only color available was the grey color.. I wasn’t sure about it to begin with but now I love it. It’s like having a little cloud floating on the road. Anyway.. I think you should have another video showing the amazing electronic features.. app connection and onboard GPS. I simply love it. I've owned several powerful motorcycles in the past. I've been away for a while and I'd like to get back onto a bike. But at 53 years old, I'm just not as serious about them as I once was. These days, I'm looking for safe, twist and go comfortable fun. I've identified 2 bikes similar in concept in some ways, wildly different in others. The Vespa GTS SuperTech 300 HPE, and the Can Am Ryker 600. Both are automatic CVT twist and go bikes with the obvious difference being 2 or 3 wheels and whether one can lean or not. They are pretty close in price, with the Ryker being $800 more expensive. I'd be amused to see them compared and evaluated together.

    • @ArmadilloGodzilla
      @ArmadilloGodzilla 5 лет назад +1

      MrBTRDAYZ Leaning on the Rhyker is much more of a workout where you fight against the machine in every corner. Filtering is impossible, but it is fun to drive. But so is the Vespa. Apples and oranges really.

    • @BikeMatters
      @BikeMatters  5 лет назад +1

      Think you will just have to try them out and see, quite different options so I am sure you will soon favour one over the other. Happy riding whatever you get! If it is the Vespa make sure to let us know how you are getting on with it.

      I bought my 300gts touring at aged 71, and previously had 1250 BMW RT,and Honda 600cbr F
      Now just use on B Roads mainly but ok on bypasses, not motorways as wheels skip about in the wind.
      Lots of corrosion on engine was a shocker. But performance brilliant. Beats Porsches across the traffic lights, and just brill filtering.Can lift into a transit van to go long distance touring and enjoy buzzing around when off the motorways.

    • @GavinMorris1

      I came back onto two wheels after a decade away about 6 months ago, I'm around 50, big, had a thing for 1000cc (SP-1 and SP-2, 996SPS, various KTMs and a Vara) twins for a long time. I bought a Vespa 125 which is hilariously bad at almost everything. The handling is terrifying, the speed inadequate, the rattles and corrosion unacceptable. But it's great fun. I'm really in two minds between an Africa Twin next or the Vespa 300HPE. Genuinely, I could go either way at this point.

    • @kennethstevenson1752
      @kennethstevenson1752 5 лет назад

      @@GavinMorris1 I went down from big heavy BMW 's now on Vespa 300gts and also Beverly 350ST with tourer fairing added,Latter is seriously good on bypasses and ok on Motorway for 20-40 miles or so at a time.The vespa leaps away from traffic lights quicker than sports cars and catches out some big bikes too by surprise. But the Beverly is a superbly designed state of the art, robust 4 suspension,duplex metal tube frame giving great confidence and has motorcycle sized wheels and is over braked if anything. It goes quickly to 70mph and can do 80-85 with GIVI barndoor fairing I have fitted for warmth and comfort.95mpg without this fairing,but not comfortable then.

      @gerrynightingale9045 4 года назад

      *Yes, it's very easy to 'move it around by hand' because I've done it many times* (Very well balanced)
      *That said, it IS a 'heavy scoot' at 365-lbs!* *And that's both 'Good' & 'Bad' at the same instant*
      *You WANT weight for stability and tracking and 'potholes' and 'ripples' and 'air-walls' smacking into you from trucks...but it makes the scoot damned hard to 'lift' without another guy there*
      *The 'C-of-G' on the Vespa IS YOU on the saddle, because all the 'heavy components' are close to the rear-wheel*
      ( *Make damn sure you have a top-quality 'flat-repair kit' with CO2-cartridges on the scoot all the time, because fixing a rear-flat is all but impossible road-side, and the front is no 'picnic' either!* )
      *The only thing wrong with 'Vespa' is RUST that seems to come from nowhere overnight...Vespa has flawless 'fit & finish' paint yet still suffers from rust issues just 'sitting still'*

Solid black is the absolute worse color for any motorcycle or scooter. People just don’t see it at all. I’ve been riding since 85 and even I am guilty of not seeing an all black bike on the road. • @barrettwbenton
      @barrettwbenton 5 лет назад

      @@panos3505 TFB is referring to the way many digital displays become hard to read under direct sunlight. I don't think the TFTs used on new Vespas are *that* bad, but overall I prefer the "hybrid" analog/digital displays used on most other current Vespas (going all the way back to my 2015 GTS).

    How can such a huge vespa not have storage for a full face helmet? That and the tiny gas tank make it a no go for me. We should expect more from it’s size and price. I can almost fit a full face helmet under the seat of my 150cc VXL, so I can’t understand that this one isn’t capable. It’s pretty though.

    Except the speedo reads 10% high for some stupid reason. Really annoying because you are second guessing how fast you can legally go. So bad there are even after market encoder wheels to correct the stupid thing and increase the speed limited speed. Otherwise even a 100000km GTS goes really well.
