My new theory is that Ben releases a new video whenever he runs out of money for iced tea
Incorrect !
Terrible.
Rawrr
My favourite moment in any of Ben's videos is when he says "they're yelling it at home!" and I really happen to be :)
Great video as always! Watching your content really helped my play get better. Bonus points for not making it super dry and boring like most chess RUclipsrs! Keep on doing what you're doing and I'll keep watching!
man I haven't watched a Ben finegold lecture in a long time and i really appreciate his humor now
his sense of humor is terrible, roar!
Despite the blunders it’s crazy how they can understand a position that’s changing tactically every move with like 5 seconds on the clock.
we been waiting for the tal lecture for too long! please upload it soon ben! and the frequency of uploads has reduced so much and its killing us!
Yeah but we want all his videos now!!!!!!!!! RAAAAAAAAWRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
omg finegold lecturing on tal gimme gimme gimme
Did he really have a lecture on Tal?
@Natasha Paige Cortez Yeah, he's like Prince or Zappa in that sense. A pure genius.
I love the lectures! My favorite on the internet.
Ben's love for Rounders is so motivating.
A la automatic captions:
Who is grandma Esther Ben Finegold?
hey ben can u do alecture on the sicilian pin variation and the shveshnikov
First game, I thought of Ra8 instead of BxN. It's not better, but Black also has to find Be7, which might also be not too easy in time pressure.
Ty was looking for this comment
You look fun hehe. Thx for another lesson !!
At 1:25 I thought the move would be Ra8, after Rxa8 we have Lxd6 checkmate. But probably after Be7 (instead of Rxa8) its not so clear
Aragorn Strider
?
Lxd6 !!!!
*bxd6, not Lxd6. So it's not only me: it's a checkmate, isn't? Unless black plays Kd7 instead of taking the rook.
@Minute 44
hi Ben, it might be the first reason. After realizing that Nxb6 would be winning it seems Magnus went into Lasker mode and tried to find a better ending. Apparently he was distracted by the beauty of the Rook being blocked from going to g4 by the Knight on f6. Since Rf1+ had been prevented forever AND the Queen was not pinning the rook at this point anymore he considered that "concluded" thereby missing that after the (now mentally excluded) Rf1+ Rg1 the Knight would be hanging with check.
What you think?
Martin Landau... Mission Impossible, dudes!
I played in that tournament you mentioned at the end. I felt like I did reasonably well. Only a 1.5/3 from the first three rounds. Then I got really drunk and super high and had someone over and by the time I woke up it was way past the starting time. It was one of those awakenings where you abruptly open your eyes and become aware that you've seen light and you sharply inhale because you know you're screwed before you even look at the time. Somehow I even gained 50 rating points from that tournament. I think it's just the mathematics of a weakly rated player playing actually okay against opponents 200 points higher rated. So yeah, good tournament. I remember it fondly.
What app does ben use for the lectures?
Ra8 first move first position? Looks good
What happens after Ra8, Be7, Bd6 ?
Great! #Rounders
in the initial position isn't rook a8 super winning? rook takes a8 and then bishop takes bishop checkmate?
At 42:10 if Qxb6 the threat isnt ...Qxd7 cause of Qc7 forcing black to trade queens and white will promote to queen again in next move. The actuall threat is ...rf1+ rg1 qd5 mate.
I always enjoy Ben's videos. I still stink at chess, but I like the videos.
it was Peter and Louis.
Safe and sound is performed by Capital Cities plus Taylor Swift mainly, etc.
I make lots of mistakes too, but that's just because I like to lull my opponents into a sense of security. Hey Ben, can you do a video on the Grand prix attack.
3:10 Frederick *Dewhurst* Yates?
What is the music in the intro?
Intro and concluding music: “Da Jazz Blues,” by Doug Maxwell; ruclips.net/video/8Mopxtd1dZM/видео.html. Thank you Doug!
Genius
in the first game, isn't rook A8 going to be mate? if rook takes rook bishop mate, if bishop takes bishop rook takes rook is mate
I don't care what the naysayers say but Saint Louis and Atlanta Chess videos always make my day.
But this is Atlanta, not St. Louis.
@@augustgreig9420 Whatever, wiseguy suckers!
31:10
Ben Larson, he also wrote Far Side?
I can usually watch these for about twenty minutes before openly laughing.
No, Bent Larson. Gary Larson wrote "The Farside".
I heard Green Day, guess I heard the B and D wrong... (14:00 ish)
Isn’t Ra8 just a winner in the first game Nakamura vs Topalov? No engines just me.
In So vs Dominguez, how about Ne8 as a try? Rxe8 Kf7.
If black gets both pawns it’s a draw
Ben discuss 2018 showdown :)
This lecture was recorded in Nov. 12 2017 so if he does the lecture comes online in a year or so
at 20:08 white is better because of many things. 1. whites rook is active 2. whites king is active. 3. white has extra moves and black doesn't 4. blacks completely passive.
6:40 is so fuckig funny 😂
rounders best poker movie ..
Why does Ben dislike Naka?
You are correct Ben I got nothin
Hey Ben, why’d you leave St. Louis.
Because he moved to another state (Georgia) when he got married.
Jason Doe oh okay
view the agadmator conflict for another reason he left too
Joo Jingle, *nope!*
I know that people want to inject drama into everything, but whatever sour things happened between Ben and part of the SLCC management, happened *after* he had left (at least from what he has publicly said regarding the photo copyright dispute).
Plus, the SLCC isn't monolithic, it's so many people. I'm certain Ben still has many, many friends in Saint Louis.
Ben knew about how scummy the chess club was long before that incident happened. I would not rule it out.
Nice reliable channel, uploading lectures literally one year behind.
incorrect!
"Free content from a grandmaster and yet people are complaining"
Go watch agadmator you pleb!!
@@chessclubandscholasticcent1140 frankly 🙃
You gotta get Nakamura in
Finegolds rants are so true, idiots will always be quick to critique and yet can't play at there level.
Evil beats good, because good is dumb.
And yet, it somehow still loses. Very suspicious.
(And nice Spaceballs quote. If you were thinking of something else, I am happy to learn.)
Sometimes evil is dumb as well, look at our president.
Spaceballs!
But your rule is never play f6 ;D
Why is white on zugswang at 16:37 if there is f4?
Playing f4 allows the king to move to e4 then capture the d pawn on d4 if the king moves or d5 if it moves. Then depending on where the king goes black will capture the kingside or queenside white pawns and win.
Taylor Swift sung that
yay in the first position i saw the right move and the perpetual. and crafty aggreed with me before I came up with it *cough*
Rounders is awesome! Also Famke Jansen is Dutch, so pronounce her name the correct way! You do so well with scheveningen and groningen but with Famke Jansen you mess up. Terrible!
"Sorry John, I can't remember."
I knew Clinton Dix- and afterwords you should have followed with terrible
Is it bad that I got EVERY reference? Horrible!
Very suspicious...
yeah, or white pieces cant dunk..
"Evil beats good! That's the real world! That's the world you don't know about...Thanks Donald Trump"
