    I'm really glad you reviewed the Boston Tea Party l.p. That was a RUclips discovery for me. Here in the U.K. they're pretty tough to get your hands on (it wasn't released here - like so many other gems) but I managed to get one on Discogs from the only U.K. seller on there. These days its getting more and more expensive to buy from overseas and harder to find the records you want for sale at home. I was very lucky there. Its a really good album full of melodic pop psych. Like you say, the organ is present throughout which is fab! Its nice to have. I'm pretty sure mine is the MGM pressing. Happy listening Robert, cheers...

    The thing that struck me when I got the R2R was the sound quality of the recording.

    The Arcesia recommendation was totally a WTF pick, on purpose. That's one of those rare records that I can't believe people are scavenging for (particularly some overseas collectors I know). Not a fan of this one...at all. I wouldn't even pick up the Guerssen copy if I spotted it somewhere. I might've mentioned it in a video years ago, but no way do I own it. I just wanted the Fithen impression of Arcesia's, and I got one! 😆All in fun.

    "Stone Believer" is probably the standout track from Metamorphosis. Lee Dorman and Larry Reinhardt went on to Captain Beyond after that. Also love the Agent Orange and Alice Cooper Goes To Hell, which I purchased at age 16 in 1976. It is a concept album of Rock, Disco, orchestral pomp and great guitairs, but the songs seem to be out of order a bit in telling the story.. "Didn't We Meet", "Guilty", and "Wake Me Gently" are great tunes also, with the latter having a Wizard of Oz, sort of vibe! Enjoyed 🤓Thanks.

  • @RedVynil
    @RedVynil Месяц назад +2

    Part of the reason the Bubble Puppy album was in bad shape was because of the way it pressed. Even brand new copies can look like they were previously owned and slightly beat. Maybe it'd do you well to check out which pressing plant made the album. Some plants just don't care. Apparenting AI didn't, either.

    • @RobertFithen
      @RobertFithen  Месяц назад

      It's the same plants that did MGM releases.

    • @RedVynil
      @RedVynil Месяц назад

      @@RobertFithen It depends. Smaller labels tended to have their stuff pressed by quite a few different plants, partly to save money on shipping the actual records to the places they wanted it distributed. A lot of plants did their own distribution so, the labels would send the masters to plants, let each one press and distribute in their area and it saves the label an ass-kickin' in postage sending cases of records all over the country. MGM had a lot of plants press their stuff, too. Monarch, Columbia (mostly in Nashville), I think they had RCA press some, Specialty, Rainbo, United, etc..
      A quote lifted from 45cat on the Bubble Puppy single: "The record broke open so fast that poor Lelan Rogers had to farm out pressing to plants he didn't ordinarily use. There must be 15 variants on this."
      Even Columbia's New Jersey plant got in on the action.

    That's not a talk box. It's called, a voice bag. I have no idea why. Joe Walsh used it in "Rocky Mountain Way" too. It, basically, shoves the sound of your instrument into your mouth and you can change the sound by changing the shape of your mouth. Whether your vocal chords have anything to do with it, I don't know.
