For most of us, this video is the closest we will get to this box set. This will eventually sell for big money. Thanks for the video and letting us see this great set.

Bought “The Collection” blue boxed set at RAF Bentwaters in 1981, so I’m more used to the stereo mixes. It wasn’t until I bought the mono CDs in Germany that I learned about the…artifice(?)…of stereo and mono. The mono CDs made me listen more closely at the whole idea of record mixing. Being primarily a baroque music LOVER in my youth whose pressings were mostly stereo, I just focused on the musical pieces. These various Beatles pressings brought into sharp relief the whole idea of the philosophy of recording and mixing stereo and mono pressings. Following the Beatles mono CDs, I began collecting older, mono back-catalogue examples of my favourite baroque and romantic works. Classical music was difficult for me to understand, so I don’t have much of that. Honestly, I was in my 30s when I truly started appreciating my Beatles collection and the few “rock” records I owned. Once I started seeing how various pop and rock groups (in live concerts) would have the members do featured solos each in their turns (as they do in jazz and be-bop which I also adore) did I begin to grasp these rock and pop artists more fully. I learned a lot from the Beatles…and from YOU! Mahalo for sharing your boxed set and all your various records with us. How you can really make the artists come live…without having to even play the music on RUclips…is simply masterful! Take care…and as we all write in the comments…“GLWTA!”

We get a reasonably plentiful supply, but as you will know all too well condition is mostly good at best. Super nice Beatles box set you've put together. I did something similar awhile back with my Dutch BC-13. Added the German Magical Mystery Tour, The German -3/-3 Hey Jude and the Dutch editions of 1962-1966 and 1967-1970 and put them in the wooden roll=top breadbox that came with the 80's digitally cut LP's. I’ve watched this channel long enough to know the Magical Mystery Tour would have to be German! Great idea, whoever picks this up will have a killer collection.
I have the US version of “Magical Mystery Tour” on Capitol and it was a stereo copy and an Apple reissue since it has the Apple label instead of Capitol. Depending on the sound quality, it was absolutely horrible, because the songs on the “Magical Mystery Tour” album were Duophonic.

Fabouloso Andrew . I own the Japan blue box FROM 1978 , the MMT , oldies . I see RARITIES excluded but red/blue included plus Hey Jude and the contour album . Enjoyed it as usual thanks
A wonderful collection that will make the lucky (and wealthy) bidder very happy! I’ve always preferred the punch of the mono pressings, but there is a sparkle in some of the stereo mixes that can’t be denied. FYI - There appears to a typo in the auction listing where Abbey Road is said to have -2/-2U matrices. In the video you clearly said (and showed) that it was -2/-1 matrices. Figured you might want to fix that. 🙂
Wish I could this. If only forbthe Please Please Me LP. I was born and live in Great Yarmouth. Palmers was a fantastic department store which only closed down within the last 5 years.
We should also be aware that each recut of Sgt Pepper stereo side 2 [-2 on 27/9 1971, -3 on 22/10 1975 and -4 on 29/8 1976] resulted in inner groove gibberish sounds being different from the original -1 pressing. But of course, many modern phonographs won't play you that anyway. And by the way, the Hey Jude UK export LP was sold in Sweden from April 1970, not from 1971.
Current bid as I type this is €3200. I asked Alexa, she said that's equivalent to a little over $3500 in American. Too rich for my blood. 😂😂😂 Good luck with the auction, Andrew, and I enjoyed the video.
Hi Andrew, I believe you covered this in a previous video -or something like it? In any case, per your recommendations at that time I sought out and obtained a number of these analog stereo albums. It truly does make for a 'perfect' stereo box set! Thanks again.
Great video, Andrew, thank you! If the box is too small to contain „everything“, I‘d rather choose „Rarities“ than „Early Beatles“. Contains much more genuine Beatles. Greetings from Berlin, Harry (who loves his 70s German pressings)
Mouthwatering video! This set will probably fetch 5,000 . Best of luck to you, Andrew. As a (two) side note(s): What is the matrix of the MMT album? There are some people who complain that the DMM matrix has an excessive boost of bass. And side note two: the original Polydor recordings could not be "reprocessed for stereo", because they were recorded in true stereo. The mono is a folddown of the original. Whatever other people may say about 'microphone bleeding', the Polydor recordings are the only true stereo recordings of the Beatles ever made. To my knowledge, that is. Please contact me if you'd like to discuss. Looking forward to your next video!
MMT matrices are: 04449-A1+C & 04449-B1+C I wouldn't say the bass boost is excessive on this pressing but its sound fits the mixes better than on some of the other albums. I love the sound of the Polydor recordings.
I started collecting the Beatles albums in the late 70s. I have every stereo album from them and the Mono white album. So I am sure all of them are from analog tapes.
Me too. Tamla Motown did the same too, but quite different. Tamla Motown was part of EMI along with Parlophone, Columbia, Stateside and HMV. They put out a series of Motown albums which were imported from the US.
Probably the best stereo box ever made. I have some UK Stereo White Albums from the mid 70's, one from '76 and 2 from '78. The '76 has -1,-2,-1,-1 matrixes while one from '78 has -1,-1,-1,-2 matrixes and the other, -1,-3,-1,-2. How was that possible to switch back to -1 on side 2 soon afterwards?
An entertaining and informative video as ever, although I fear next week I may be a little cross by the end…😊 I would like to ask, if I may: what was the purpose of the pinched spines? I’d never seen this feature until your videos. Admittedly I have also never collected UK Beatles pressings (the only way I’m familiar with that Parlophone label is early 80s Duran Duran 2nd pressings!). I’m sure it’s something I’m just not thinking of but clearly the pinch meant something. Thank you Andrew, as always!
Hello Andrew, very interesting video. I love those laminated covers. They look beautiful on the screen. I want to ask you what type of camera did you use for this video? the color looks fantastic thank you.😄
Great video, like usual Andrew! I have all the 1970's edition stereo but from Argentina. Sounds good to my ears. They are value from you're english market?
Hey again Andrew, I have the first stereo pressings of Rubber Soul and Revolver, my RS has the -2/-2 matrix endings, is there any difference in sound to that compared to the -3/-3 copy in this set.? And my Revolver has the -1/-1 cuttings, again any difference in sound on that compared to the one in this set.? And lastly, do think it’s wiser to keep the LP’s outside of there covers and perhaps placing them behind there covers in protected plastic sleeves?. Thanks for taking the time to see this
That’s an excellent set, Andrew! I love taking notes based on your informative videos that help me hunt down some of these pressings in the wild. I actually just recently found a late 70’s stereo Beatles for Sale with -3 on side A, and -1 on side B. Would this pressing still be comparable to the earlier -1/-1 ?
Not a chance in hell of me being able to afford this set, but what an amazing and interesting watch. I have a question/suggestion for a video. Being a fairly recent subscriber to your channel some things occasionally leave me a little shall we say perplexed. Do you think you could do a video one day explaining what it signifies when you mention the Dash 1 or Dash 2 etc pressings. What information that such markings can give you and anything else that would be relevant or important relating to it, or why they are so important? Just as I think I am getting it I end up getting a little lost again. Thanks for all the great work Andrew
Yes I'm sure the quality of these analog records is so good, you'll want to get them into the digital realm quickly and then put them back into their protective sleeves as soon as possible. And don't even touch them with gloves after you've vaulted them away.
How can the With The Beatles mono pressed in 1970 with the Parlophone rim print ? The TWO EMI box with the Gramophone rims from early seventies are the biggest bang for your $ or £ . They have the same matrices as one box ,and first pressing on most .
Wow very impressive collection Handsome! Andrew, on Let it Be, I've seen copies with a Red Apple label. What year were those and why the Red instead of the Green?
I very much enjoy your various comparisons. But remember: A high-res digital copy of the original analog master tape -- depending on how it is mastered for LP -- CAN sound just as "good" (or faithful to the original) as a first-generation analog copy, as blind listening tests have confirmed. So much can happen to sound on its way from the (recorded, edited, mixed, equalized, compressed, processed) original to the lacquer to the stamper to the pressing to your stylus, cartridge, tone arm, turntable, phono stage, preamp, power amp, speaker cables and speakers. The released version of the music all starts with the same original master -- unless it's from dupes of dupes of dupes...
Some beautiful pressings there. I'm surprised there weren't more german pressings in there. About MMT though, that was the later unmarked DMM cut with "+C" stamped at the end of the matrix? Just curious. 🙂
Hi Andrew interesting concept but with a glaring omission. You haven't included either "Rarities (UK)" or "Past Masters' which have the b-sides & EP tracks, German versions etc which renders this set as incomplete. While I get the inclusion of "Oldies" & "Hey Jude" plus Red & Blue, you still have a lot of missing tracks. Have I missed something here? Besides Oldies is made redundant (aside from "Bad Boy") by 1962-66 while "Hey Jude" is also surplus to needs (aside from "Rain") by both Red & Blue as well as the "A Hard Day's Night" LP. Cheers mate.
Fantastic video Andrew, I can now envisage 2 and 1 box emi pressing values on eBay going through the roof 😂 I have a question. I “inherited” a full set of “gramophone” rim 1976 ish two box emi pressings, a lot of them with original tube matrices (WTB -2 -2) BFS -1 -1 etc etc. I’m assuming these would be just as good sound wise as the one box emi? Revolver, best stereo in my humble opinion? The German press late 79s early 80s A1 matrix, has bass that makes my room shake, it just brings the whole album alive
Well, if it said Gramophone Co. Ltd. it would have been pressed in 1973 or earlier; from mid July 1973 it was absorbed into EMI Records Ltd. and although some crossover of labels would no doubt have occurred, it would have only taken a few months to use them up. Incidentally, to clarify the confusion, there had been an EMI Records Ltd. since the launch of microgroove records and were the manufacturing and sales/distribution arm of EMI Ltd. The individual companies, Gramophone (HMV), Columbia (including Parlophone) etc. were RECORDING companies only from that point. The label company produced the recording FOR EMI Records to sell. It was like an internal contract. In 1965 however all the production companies owned by EMI were merged into Gramophone Co. Ltd. (basically, HMV). From that point it gets more confusing: the manufacture of vinyl of EMI label productions then passed legally to The Gramophone Co. Ltd. aswell hence why sleeve backs state EMI Records (The Gramophone Co. Ltd.). However the manufacture of tape formats, and vinyl of NON-EMI recordings (e.g. Stateside and Tamla Motown) were sold by EMI Records Ltd.! All this mess was finally tidied up in July 1973 when The Gramophone Co. Ltd. merged with EMI Records Ltd.
@@mbvideoselection Thanks ! So given that these records would have been from 1973 ish , then the sound quality should be identical to the one box emi. I have got a full set of one box emi which I purchased years and years ago, very cheap back then, but to be honest I always found the two box emi to be in better condition.
I have a clean "two-box" -3/-2 stereo Beatles For Sale (from BC-13), and it sounds incredible. It's amazing to learn they cut an even better set of lacquers!
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing these awesome pressings. Regarding Let it Be. I’m curious why the boxed set with the book was discontinued so soon? You think it would have been available for at least a couple years or so.
@@Parlogram Nooooo!! Andrew, you simply can't be deleted regardless of stock! You are far too valuable a resource. And a repressed Andrew would never be as good as the original! :)
As I watch, I'm delighted to discover that I actually own the German Magical Mystery Tour with exactly the same cover and labels as yours (this one has a plain white inner sleeve with a label viewing hole on one side only)... Unlike the others, you did not feature the Matrix numbers, therefore I'm now curious if mine match yours... they are: 04449-A-1 for side 1 and 04449-B-3 for side 2 ....
Hmm.. It should end with -3 on side B. That's the one you want. ;) The unmarked DMM version shown ends with +C stamped in the matrix and came out in the early/mid 80's.
i wanted the beatles collection but at the time it was way to expensive coast around $100 australian but i settled for the beatles box through readers digest that coast $80
Hi Andrew. I know it's unrelated to the video but I'm looking to create my own docu-videos online. Would you mind telling me what mics and video editing software you use? I tried using Premiere Pro but it's so frustrating. P.S. Would love to see a making of a Parlogram video. How you come up with video ideas fascinate me.
They should reissue the analogue Stereo versions on CD at least. Especially as they are £13.99 each in HMV. Other acts back catalogues are considerably cheaper, but because it's The Beatles. The albums must have paid mainly for themselves years ago so no need to charge high.
Noob question: Is this product available in CD or DVD/Blu-ray editions? Also does anyone know if there are still the Apple digitised anthology sets available on Nand flash memory? Very grateful for any help thanks.
Andrew I bought my Beatles stereo albums in the early to mid 80s. Would these all have been from analogue tapes and equivalent to the BC13 box set quality?
Personally, I would still have put the German Please Please Me album in because, it may not look as pretty, but it sounds better. I would also have really considered the De Agostini copy of Help! because it is probably the best I have heard of that really poorly executed album. My only other change would be the 1962-1966 and 1967-1970 albums where I would have put in the Dutch pressings which sound fantastic.
A later West German release on the Apple label uses the original UK artwork and the same cutting as the 1973 "Die Beatles" release. On the hunt for that.
Andrew, just some feedback. You know some of your videos are from about 20-35 mins long, well, couldn't you do those longer vids in 2 parts. This way it maybe boxset part 1 lasting about 12 mins, and part 2 lasting for , say 15 mins. That way we have a way of choosing just how much to watch, even to watch a lot of part 1 and most of part 2, but not necessarily at the same time nor for too long in one go. Just some gentle feedback
Excuse me sir, but I don't wanna sound ungrateful and spend a lot of money and I use a normal home turntable,do the digitally remastered records sound any good? Cuz they're expensive for sound quality.
Just enjoy the music you have when on a budget (arn't most of us) Serious collecters spend thousands on duplicate albums often without opening or playing them - as then they are no longer pristine mint ! 😏

I think 99% of the albums in this set were originally bought from that shop.
The Capitol release of “Sgt. Pepper” has no gibberish inner groove at the end of side 2.
Current bid as I type this is €3200.
I asked Alexa, she said that's equivalent to a little over $3500 in American. Too rich for my blood. 😂😂😂
Good luck with the auction, Andrew, and I enjoyed the video.
Thanks Russell!
Exceptionally interesting.
What a clean old record!
Hi Andrew, I believe you covered this in a previous video
-or something like it? In any case, per your recommendations at that time I sought out and obtained a number of these analog stereo albums. It truly does make for a 'perfect' stereo box set! Thanks again.
You're welcome, Richard!
I have that exact stereo pressing of Revolver! So I already have 1/18th of that box set, haha!
Omg that price! It looks like a great box set but 4k seems a hefty wedge
Great video, Andrew, thank you! If the box is too small to contain „everything“, I‘d rather choose „Rarities“ than „Early Beatles“. Contains much more genuine Beatles. Greetings from Berlin, Harry (who loves his 70s German pressings)
Thank Harry. I considered 'Rarities' but left it out because this was primarily a stereo box set and most of 'Rarities' in mono.
You‘re right, Andrew. It slipped my mind. Sorry!
MMT matrices are: 04449-A1+C & 04449-B1+C
I wouldn't say the bass boost is excessive on this pressing but its sound fits the mixes better than on some of the other albums. I love the sound of the Polydor recordings.
I love you Parlogram
I started collecting the Beatles albums in the late 70s. I have every stereo album from them and the Mono white album.
So I am sure all of them are from analog tapes.
I love those black Parlophone labels.
Hi Andrew, I've picked up some UK pressings recently from late 70s-mid 80s. When were the last analog-cut LPs? Thanks, Jason
1986
@@Parlogram Thank you! :)
"I'll go bid on that and it's already out of my league" LOL. Good deal for the right person!
An entertaining and informative video as ever, although I fear next week I may be a little cross by the end…😊
I would like to ask, if I may: what was the purpose of the pinched spines? I’d never seen this feature until your videos. Admittedly I have also never collected UK Beatles pressings (the only way I’m familiar with that Parlophone label is early 80s Duran Duran 2nd pressings!). I’m sure it’s something I’m just not thinking of but clearly the pinch meant something.
Thank you Andrew, as always!
Hello Andrew, very interesting video. I love those laminated covers. They look beautiful on the screen. I want to ask you what type of camera did you use for this video? the color looks fantastic thank you.😄
The video was shot on an iphone 13.
@@Parlogram thanks for your quick answer.🙏
@parlogram 👋🏽 where do you source your vinyl from can you list a few of your go to shops?
Great video, like usual Andrew! I have all the 1970's edition stereo but from Argentina. Sounds good to my ears. They are value from you're english market?
I am interested in your opinion about the Yugoslav editions. Thank you
Hey again Andrew, I have the first stereo pressings of Rubber Soul and Revolver, my RS has the -2/-2 matrix endings, is there any difference in sound to that compared to the -3/-3 copy in this set.?
-3 is comparable but not better.
The dash 1, dash 2 etc. refers to the cutting sequence. But I agree, a video explaining it all would be helpful.
@@Parlogram Wicked. Thanks 😊
As Andrew said in the video, they may have been leftover labels used for the mono pressing.
Good luck to everyone! A bit too much for me right now but somebody is going to be very happy.
on streaming, streaming truly sucks balls, so glad i have all my vinyl records.
Wow very impressive collection Handsome! Andrew, on Let it Be, I've seen copies with a Red Apple label. What year were those and why the Red instead of the Green?
U.S. pressings had red Apple labels. It was always green in the UK.
I feel like I’ve seen this video before. No Past Masters?
Yes, it was the DMM cut with the +C matrix.
The box wasn't big enough to hold everything, Peter!
@@Parlogram 😅😅😅😅
Fantastic video Andrew, I can now envisage 2 and 1 box emi pressing values on eBay going through the roof 😂
I have a question.
@@mbvideoselection
Thanks !
Does the PPM sounds any good? I've yet to hear a rip of the album that sounds better than my Dr Ebbetts rip of HorZu.
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing these awesome pressings. Regarding Let it Be. I’m curious why the boxed set with the book was discontinued so soon? You think it would have been available for at least a couple years or so.
Cost! Think the average Beatles fan in 1969 couldn't afford it.
I was deleted once initial stock was gone.
@@Parlogram So the original plan was to only do one run or was it originally planned to last longer?
@@Parlogram Nooooo!! Andrew, you simply can't be deleted regardless of stock! You are far too valuable a resource. And a repressed Andrew would never be as good as the original! :)
I got both stereo and mono sets on CD never opened, worth???
Andrew? How is the recut Sgt Pepper Mono mix from the original tapes from the 2017 cd set against the og mono mix or even the 2014 mix?
Didn't Let It Be also have a red apple on it?
Are the Ausralian mono LP of With the Beatles any rare?
I put all my albums in outer pollyetheline sleeves and then mofi inners behind cover in outer sleeve
Yes... mine is -3 on side 2..... that was a typo. I corrected it.

i wanted the beatles collection but at the time it was way to expensive coast around $100 australian but i settled for the beatles box through readers digest that coast $80
Hi James, I use Premiere Pro.
@Parlogram Thanks Andrew. That was I worried about. Struggling to learn it. Hope it gets easier!
Good luck with this. Let us know the results!!
I want the red and blue albums from 2014!
Here you go: www.parlogramauctions.com/Listing/Details/1659654/
New versions of the Red & Blue Albums are imminent 🎶🙂
At what point did the flip backs covers stop?
The 3-flipback cover ended in 1972. It was replaced with a 2-flipback design which lasted only another year or so.
Thanks Andrew
Andrew I bought my Beatles stereo albums in the early to mid 80s. Would these all have been from analogue tapes and equivalent to the BC13 box set quality?
Everything up to 1986 was cut from analogue tapes.
@@Parlogram Looks like I got there just in time! Cheers, Andrew.
Wait so I wasn’t supposed to throw my Beatles box set in the trash? DUDE!
What about the mobile fidelity boxset.
We did a video on that a while back: ruclips.net/video/f4IuF5yX0oU/видео.html
Andrew, just some feedback. You know some of your videos are from about 20-35 mins long, well, couldn't you do those longer vids in 2 parts. This way it maybe boxset part 1 lasting about 12 mins, and part 2 lasting for , say 15 mins. That way we have a way of choosing just how much to watch, even to watch a lot of part 1 and most of part 2, but not necessarily at the same time nor for too long in one go. Just some gentle feedback
I thought the flip back album cover was only mono release's
Excuse me sir, but I don't wanna sound ungrateful and spend a lot of money and I use a normal home turntable,do the digitally remastered records sound any good? Cuz they're expensive for sound quality.
Just enjoy the music you have when on a budget (arn't most of us) Serious collecters spend thousands on duplicate albums often without opening or playing them - as then they are no longer pristine mint ! 😏
