It's never too late to learn a new instrument, and for percussion all you need is a pair of sticks and a half decent drum pad. Never sell yourself short, go for it
In this video I'm using innovative percussion fs-pr2's, the paul rennick model. I like them, but they do tend be inconsistent and kinda fragile. If you find a good pair they're great

@@NicDunn I get it's informal, but when I played in my high school band, people never marched out of step whenever we were out in public, they were punished if they did!! You're out there representing the entire band and when you look bad, we ALL look bad!!
I’m surprised yall are not using dampers. Those snares in my school and the high ceiling would make it sound horrible. We always used a damper to kill the loudness inside.

As someone whos been in marching band, you have tons of practice plus we usually use the same pieces every year
