It was super experimental instead of following trends because after Nirvana the record companies had no idea what was going to be a hit. They signed all sorts of weird, underground, and garage acts. In an hour of alternative rock radio in the 90s you could hear prog metal, folk rock, trip hop, shoegaze, acid house, grunge, punk, industrial, etc.

The Offspring are known as masters of the hook. The lead singer is actually wicked smart and he uses those smarts to create musical hooks. People can't help but getting addicted to the sound. Dive deep indeed and be aware that every song has a crazy hook.
This is a rabbit hole you NEED to go down. They have a huge catalog of nusic ..but I think one of my favorites is called " Can't Get My Head Around You". Its fast and hard..you will love it!!
I remember hearing this song on mtv with my brother for the first time, I was 9, he was 16. We instantly looked at each other when it started and our faces were like hooooly shit what is this magical sound 😮. We hunted for this song on TV all day, every day for a whole summer lol.

Offspring!!! Here we go! Summer of '99 we listened to this album all the way to Ocean City Maryland on a road trip from Minneapolis!!! Dang that was fun!
This was the first Offspring song I ever listened to, and one of the first songs that got me into the 90s rock scene. It was funny to me to figure out years later that they were a "pop punk" band, like Greenday... at the time it was just all Alt Rock to me. Smash was an amazing album, and still is... these guys quickly became one of my favorite bands. So many great tracks for you to check out - Gotta Get Away, Come out and Play, Kick'em When He's Down, Amazed, Gone Away, Pay the Man, Dirty Magic... If you want to go back to their punk roots check out LAPD off of Ignition (though some of the language used might not be youtuber friendly... you've been warned). Or, if you'd like to hear some of their amazing newer stuff, check out Dividing By Zero/Slim Pickens Does The Right Thing And Rides The Bomb To Hell. Oh, and there are their funny songs like, What in the World Happened to You?, Pretty Fly for a White Guy, and Why Don't You Get a Job?, which tend to deliver a bit of biting social commentary in the form of humor... All worth a listen.
"Come Out and Play” was the first time I heard them back in the day. Banger. I was your age in 90s. Great times. Agree music recently doesn’t hit the same way. Unsure why...
Great song!! It, and your comments reminded me of 2 songs I'd ❤to see you check out: I'M AWESOME by SPOSE- was in one of my kids' snowboarding games in the 2010's. 😂😂🔥🔥 & YOU by CANDLEBOX - boy's vocal will dig into your SOUL, man. 🔥🔥🔥💣💣💣
First song I heard from them is The Kids Aren’t Alright and I was obsessed with Self-Esteem. Me and my rock band played a cover of it in Middle School and High School. I play bass. Easy song to play.
Offspring was a pretty awesome band.Lots of great songs. The lead singer Dr.Keith "Dexter" Holland.Found the time to get a doctorate in micro biology along the way.
The Offspring has been in my top 5 consistently since the mid 1990’s. So many great songs and they are still putting out new music today. Look into Bad Habit, You’re Gonna Go Far Kid, The Kids Aren’t Alright, Hammerhead, Gone Away, Come Out and Play, and Gotta Get Away. Those songs will give you a bit over everything from their discography.
Self esteem. Gone away. The kids aren’t alright. Come out and play. Are a must hear. Offspring are a great band to learn guitar most of there songs are just 4 chords with easy strumming patterns.
I am in my 50's and I was right here in Southern California for all of it. The guys from the Off Spring were just a 20 minute drive from my pad. Greatest time of my life. I still feel like I am 21 years old.
Check out Green Day from this era too! Both are absolute legends!! I was in 7 grade when these albums came out and at school dances you couldn't hear the music because everyone was shouting the lyrics, what time to be alive!
I'm 51 and growing up during this era was indeed special and wonderous. I miss the old days of MTV and grunge rock. I love watching you young ones discovering the soundtrack of my youth. 💜
I was your exact age when this song came out - and let me tell you, I loved loving music in the 90's! And I knew it was special. Not so great being in my 50's now, but so grateful I was there and got to experience this music first hand back then. So glad you are loving it too!

i wouldnt call this grunge at all. it doesnt have any depth. its pretty clearly post punk. a polished up version of the chaos of the early 80s movement, if you will. Think of Green Day and their many peers.
alternative rock. The radio stations loved this song., too They would take a break, play their banner, "98 rrrrockkkkk" LA LA LA LA LA It was the perfect intro to the music hour after the advertisements.
A very different vibe from them is Gone Away. Years after my dad died, I was still struggling with how to process my feelings and this song helped. It has become not just my favorite Offspring song, but one of my favorite songs of all time. Just shows the emotional connections we make through music.
IMO, the best album front to back that the offspring released. Anything off Smash if 🔥. This was the beginning of the transition from 80's punk to 90's pop punk.
The Offspring are kind of Post Punk, Alternative Rock. I agree with everyone requesting "The Kids Aren't Alright," but they have piles of hits, so you can't really go wrong
Gotta Get Away is a song that always brings up the emotions I felt in my teens when I first heard it . Talk about goosebumps !!!!! I hope you do this next by them .
Yeah, they have a lot of great songs, but The Kids Aren't Alright is hard hitting and so well constructed. It's also got the cool take on the 1965 song by The Who, The Kids Are Alright....
Their whole Smash album was fire and that’s where this song is from. Another great one from it is Come out and play, I think you would love it. When I heard them for the first time at 21 I fell in love with them too. Side note, the lead singer has a doctorate in molecular biology.😊
this album is great! ♥ You must check out their song - *Gotta Get Away* There are some great rock bands out right now: Band Maid & The Warning are the top 2 I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live) I suggest these The Warning songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (official video with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro)
As someone who turns 50 next month, i tell you. My life is a blessing and even more knowing i grew up with some of the best music one can have. Welcome to the Offspring family! A truly amazing band with some excellent music. This isn’t even their best one! As others have said, next up you gotta check out The Kids Aren’t allright, You’re gonna go far kid, Gone Away, and then the cover of gone away by Five Finger Death Punch (an amazing cover of an amazing song)

alternative rock. The radio stations loved this song., too They would take a break, play their banner, "98 rrrrockkkkk" LA LA LA LA LA It was the perfect intro to the music hour after the advertisements.
93.3 WTPT still wears this joint out to this DAY
In stead of just a like button , i wish there was a EFFEN LOVE button ... your reaction really made my day !!! Thank you so much
Bro, seriously anything off their first album Ignition! They're all short punk tunes and you won't regret it!
Ignition is their second album. Their first is the self titled album from 1989. I love all their old stuff. First four albums are my favorite!
"All i Want"
Living In Chaos is one of their lesser known songs. But that song has lived rent free in my brain every day for the last twenty-five years..
The Kids Aren’t Alright x1,000,000
Yeah, they have a lot of great songs, but The Kids Aren't Alright is hard hitting and so well constructed. It's also got the cool take on the 1965 song by The Who, The Kids Are Alright....
Their whole Smash album was fire and that’s where this song is from. Another great one from it is Come out and play, I think you would love it. When I heard them for the first time at 21 I fell in love with them too. Side note, the lead singer has a doctorate in molecular biology.😊
Just give blind Mellon a try a song called no rain you will enjoy
Fantastic request! I second, third and fourth this!
I LOVE Blind Melon, and have requested multiple times. No Rain wouldn’t be my first choice, but anything those boys did with Shannon was wonderful
Seed to a Tree, Tones of Home, Galaxie, Soak the Sin.

this album is great! ♥ You must check out their song - *Gotta Get Away*
There are some great rock bands out right now: Band Maid & The Warning are the top 2
I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)
I suggest these The Warning songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (official video with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro)
"Today's music is shit," well said. ✌️☮️🎸🎶🎵🎼🥁🎤🎸💯
As someone who turns 50 next month, i tell you. My life is a blessing and even more knowing i grew up with some of the best music one can have. I had everything at my fingers, from new death metal to the 30' 50's to the 60's and 70' music. However i do enjoy watching the change inbyou since you started this channel. The music is doing you good.
Skater punk, not grunge
One of my Favorite Bands EVER
Welcome to the Offspring family! A truly amazing band with some excellent music. This isn’t even their best one! As others have said, next up you gotta check out The Kids Aren’t allright, You’re gonna go far kid, Gone Away, and then the cover of gone away by Five Finger Death Punch (an amazing cover of an amazing song)
Definitely one of the best...The Offspring's "Self-Esteem". Obviously check other great tunes from these guys...great reaction to this tune MollyBoy...🎤🎶🎸
Born in 1984 and kid and teenager in the 90s.
The 80s and 90s are so special to me ❤
This song was great at their live concert... I love Dexter. 'Gotta Get Away' is another banger. I'd def recommend it.
Still love that song.. and yes... I'm in my 50's... I can recall driving down the road looking at my friend about half way through that song going.. darn! First time hearing It is a treat.
I’m 67 and this is my ringtone ! ✌️This album was everything when it came out
Offspring is from Garden Grove California ( not to far from DISNEYLAND), they are Punk Rock but from the late 80s, /90s…. 👍🎶❤️. Great reaction, your doing great, getting into THE MUSIC
My kids go to the same high school as Dexter.
My favorite punk rock band. So many great songs.
Alternative Rock. Definite rabbit hole. You're going to really like a lot of their material.
Hacky sac music! haha beers, weed, 90's Alt music and kicking the sac around a circle.. you nailed it Molly
I rocked this song so hard when i was young. Killer album. Their song genocide is killer
Saw them at UNLV in 92. Snuck in with my girlfriend. Awesome show. Live performance blew us away.
The band I grew up on. Get it right, dirty magic, the meaning of life, no hero. The list goes on...rock on!
Offspring is one of my favorite Bands to see live. PERFECT CIRCLE
