  • A pleasant scenic circular hike of lower and upper Gorple Reservoirs, followed by a challenging ascent up to open parts of Widdop Moor. The ascent was around 870ft crossing parts of the Pennine Way. Some turbulent winds up on top easing off when returning down to Widdop Reservoir and Gorples Reservoir. (Some interesting demonstration of how not to rock scramble.)
(Apologies for a few errors in film. Altitude should be 535 metres and not feet. Title Gorple and not Gorpley.)
There's a small carpark off Ridhaigh Lane approached by the A646 which has narrow hairpin bends.

I am with you Shanita...i don't like shooting...seems pointless...looked fairly dry underfoot..love those rocks up on Widdop moor...loved listening to Michaels knowledge of Gritstone...an enjoyable video.

Nice to read you feel the same about shooting Steven. I do learn quite a bit from Michael's geological interests. Puts things in a different light. Glad you enjoyed watching this route. Thanks for support Steven or is it spelt Stephen. Never quite sure.🙂All best to Karen too.🚶‍♀

I don't like shooting either Shanita, especially grouse shooting. Gorple is an area I know very well. I really like it up there. I thoroughly enjoyed Michael's impromptu climbing demonstration....he hasn't lost it 👌. Have you heard about the proposed windfarm on the moors in that area? Very concerning but a great deal of opposition has mobilised. Great video. Bye for now, Chris

Hi Chris. I am glad my comments about shooting have been agreed with by others. Must admit had a panic when the climbing exhibition went overboard ! but it seems to have been amusing to viewers. I did hear from another comment below about a proposed wind farm on the moors which will certainly change the landscape appearance. All the best Chris and many thanks.

Hi Shanita, really enjoyed this one, especially hearing you and Michael having different opinions about the walk 😁Watching him try to climb the boulders then you telling him to stop really had me laughing 😂 A beautiful walk all the same, lovely reservoirs, again not an area I know at all. "Searching for Rainbows" was another pleasant score with the piano and synth. All the best 👍

I know the communucations between us have amused viewers. All in fun though except when climbing boulders with a risk of falling. Glad you noticed track Searching for Rainbows. Always appreciated. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. All the best to you.

Lovely video. Ive been around that area on Black Hameldon, but I've not ventured up to Widdop reservoir yet. This summer definitely! ATB Clare

I think you will find that area ofGorple a pleasant scenic place to visit. It's amazing so many lovely countryside places to explore for walking. Thanks and good luck with your ATB Clare.

Some steep climbing going on there Shanita!
Looked so beautiful though, and the windy weather i love although i know its precarious when filming!
Nice spot for your lunch! Hope there wasn't any sheep poo you sat on lol!😅.
Found it interesting about the burning of the heather, you know it wouldn't grow in my garden, wonder if its because i don't have acid soil?
Those weathered rocks looked tempting to Michael didn't they ! Glad he didn't slip! I know you tried to warn him lol.
So enjoyed your windy walk thanks ever so for sharing .

Hi Anna. This was an enjoyable walk despite the winds. Managed to avoid the sheep poo when sitting down I suppose all part of the countryside though. Nice to see your comments Anna. Have a good Easter weekend.🙂

Thank you Michael and Shanita. ❤ You might need to change the title to Gorple Reservoirs. It's a most beautiful and wild area that I want to visit soon. ❤ I thought that your first set of rocks was the Cludders but I think they're at 13:00 because they are at Widdop. The first lot are Dicken Rocks, I believe. Lol, Michael was determined to climb those. 😂🎉
The Calderdale windfarm plan may well see turbines brought right up to the shore of Widdop Reservoir and change the landscape of that whole moor if the scheme gets its way. Most distressing. 😢

We did walk through different parts of that area hence mix of titles. You certainly know the names of all the rocks up there. Helpful to learn more about that area. Yes. Afraid I was quite concerned about the climbing bits. That sounds quite a scheme about the windfarm plans, which I agree about changing landscape views. Thanks for all the tips.🙂

Apologies for title errors. Just realised via Michael, the heading was misspelt as Gorpley instead of Gorple. Now amended to (hopefully)the correct headings. Easy to miss when both areas sound similar. Again interesting to find out that those rocks had names to them. Thanks.

@@CountrysideWalking @CountrysideWalking Hi Shanita, thanks for your replies. ❤ I believe the rocks up there are variously named as The Cludders and the stones: Cow, Rigging, Grey, Dove, Slack, Gorple, Dicken and Raven. They've all got names. 😊 The Round Stone is near the Cludders too. A few of the Gorple Stones go over the border into Lancashire and there are variously named stones there too, including the Hare Stones. It is indeed a fascinating area and one I hope will stay that way. 🎉

I've always intended to explore beyond Hard Castle Crags, looks nice. I do have a walk planned further up towards Haworth. Some more interesting snippets from Michael. Those rocks were calling out to be climbed, but we don't bounce any more, even with a small fall do we.

      @CountrysideWalking  6 месяцев назад +2

Had to laugh - Ha Ha at the 'we don't bounce anymore' comment Steve. So true! 😀even if temptations to climb the rocks were calling out.🙂 Our last walk near Haworth was the Bronte trail, but thinking only recently about returning to film a short walk around the village of Haworth. All best for enjoyable Easter weekend

Haworth should make a good video, my brother used to live in Haworth, at the top of the cobbled street, always lots of people looking through the window to the kitchen, perhaps they thought he was Mr Rochester.
