A River, a Castle and a Royal Enfield Classic 350

- In this video I'm taking the Royal Enfield Classic 350 for a quick tour to two of Yorkshire's finest castles and rivers.
It was a sunny but cold day, heralding the imminent arrival of Autumn. But these days any rain free day is an opportunity not to be missed, so I loaded up my camera gear onto Donkey the 350 Classic, and headed north into the wilds of Yorkshire.
Aysgarth Falls has been on hit list for quite a while. A filming location for one of my all time favourite movies, the falls saw Kevin Costner's Robin Hood meet Nick Brimble's Little John in the hit 1991 film. Looking just as epic as it did 33 years ago, the falls are not to be missed if you're in the area.
If you haven't had your medieval fill after the Falls, a short ride away is the remains of Bolton Castle. A great way to spend an hour or two on a tour of Yorkshire, the castle offers a gateway into the past, you can even visit the bedroom of Mary Queen of Scots.

@@ClassicRides Can definitely confirm how good these jeans are….. had mine for a year now. Excellent!
Love the cinematography of your videos. Stunning. Thanks.
Thanks David, glad you liked it.
I look forward to each new video you upload Matt. Thanks for giving us these beautiful visual treats, these are shorts with excellent quality and photography. And the music, exquisite!
Thanks, I wish I could make them more often.
Calm and subtle. 👍 .
It’s the best way 👌
Just repeating what everyone else has said, absolutely amazing. Beautifully shot and perfect music to accompany it.
Thanks David, glad you liked it 🙏
I am from Vietnam - South East Asia, sitting next to the window, when it is raining outside, enjoying this video clip, and thinking that you are the happiest man on the road with your nice motobike 👍. Somedays I will visit UK and buy some stuff from your store. Thanks for your inspiration from your video clips.
So glad to hear you enjoyed the video, the UK is a nice place to visit but I suspect you have much more amazing views in Vietnam 👌🏻
Congratulations, Matt. Another beautifully composed video. N
Thanks Neil, glad you liked it 👍
Yorkshire is a lovely part of the country. Suits the 350 well
I agree 👍
Absolutely fabulous video again Matt, you definitely have a talent for creating cinematic bike videos, beautifully crafted 👍
Thanks Mike, glad you liked it 👍
Fab!
Thanks 🙏
Visually stunning video to watch. Your videos always inspire me to get out & ride. Thinking i need to add a 350 to my garage now aswell 😆. Keep up the great work!
They’re a great addition to any garage I reckon 👍
Another beautifully shot video Matt. Cinematography is superb and its obvious how much work you put in to make it flow so well. Donkey sounds so relaxed bowling along. Makes my Saturday. Cheers 👍
Thanks, it’s a little work but worth it I think.
We all enjoy the many formulaic bike videos on our you tube channel however Matt your "short films " briefly transport us to a time and place our soul requires in this busy age we all bussel around in so once again I thank you from my soul for this film
@@IanClarke-bi3se Thanks Ian, always nice words from you 👍🏻
Excellent as always, but even better when in Yorkshire. :-)
I’ve a lot to explore in Yorkshire, incredible place 👌
@@ClassicRides You might like going via Menwith Hill in N.Yorkshire. Took that route from Boroughbridge back to Bolton.
Hi Matt. What a stunning film. It’s easy to simply appreciate it for what it is but the amount of work behind each shot, ride by and on board view should also be equally as appreciated. I hope you’re still enjoying the 350, it certainly looks that way. Growing up, we holidayed in Leyburn regularly and visited Aysgarth on every trip. What a stunning place. All the best, Paul.
Thanks Paul, I appreciate that you appreciate the legwork involved in getting the shots 😁 All worth it though I think, and yes I agree, that part of Yorkshire is particularly nice.
Great music Matt, outstanding scenery.
I went to Islandmagee today it's always beautiful and haunted in a strange way. My parents rented a summer cottage in Portmuck and l spent my childhood there, writing poems, songs and playing guitar 🎸
Years fly past and now at 66 years of age, im still riding along the Gobbins Rd .
Sounds a great, nostalgic ride Mike 👍
Hi Matt, my wife and I stayed in Reeth for two weeks in May this year. Great rides in that area of North Yorkshire. Rode over to Bolton Castle on one of our circuits. Enjoyed it immensely! Loved the history, especially the “domestic” aspects of their lives. Great video! I would love to be riding my RE Classic 350 over there !
It's a great part of the country to explore on two wheels; I hope you get more chances to ride in Yorkshire.
@@ClassicRides Funny you should say that! We have booked the accommodation in Reeth for a month next year!
Hi Matt, I love these type of videos they tell a story with the right kind of music to relax to while enjoying the ride & great views, you nail it every time.
PS she has arrived & I’m over the moon with it👌
That’s great news Les, I hope the weather stays dry long enough for you to get some decent rides done 🤞
Hi Matt. A very professional made vid. The music and scene sequence was great. What a beautiful are to ride through on the right machine. All good from east Kentucky USA. Safe rides
Thanks Sam, Yorkshire is a real gem to ride through, parts of it are straight out of fairytales with the amount of ancient ruins lying about.
Samhill, From central Kentucky, Wilmore...agree 100% with your take on Matt's video.
@@josephky5194 up Jeff KY way just south of Hazard on Hwy 15. Do a lot of mtn rides SW VA EAST TN back to RRG down to Red Bird, Harlan, Middlesboro, Somerset, Rogersville Bluefield. About 75 mile circle of home offers some great riding, paved, hard pack gravel, tough KAT. Give me a shout sometime
Nice one Matt 👍👍
Thanks Mark 👊

Matt que videos más bonitos relajan el alma y el espíritu las imágenes y el sonido perfecto gracias y buenas rutas chao 😊

Thanks 🙏🏻
Excellent video, great editing, putting the point of motorcycle travel across brilliantly!
Thanks Alan 👍
Brilliant, really enjoyed this.
Glad to hear it 👍
Another Great video Matt. Aysgarth falls and Bolton Castle are ideal destinations for a ride out, with stunning scenery on the way.
Thanks Alan, it really is a lovely place to spend a day riding.
Your videos never disappoint
Glad you think so 👊
Wonderful! Summer has arrived it seems …
Better late than never ☀️
I classic rides ,great filming and well put gether
Thanks Paul 👍
Absolutely fantastic video dude 👏🏻just fyi the rear light has a built in reflector in case you want to get rid of the stick on one 😉
Ah yes, someone else mentioned that a while ago, I keep forgetting to pull it off.
Beautiful video of Classic350 and UK ! it was like I was traveling to the place!
That's what I was aiming for, glad you liked it 👍🏻
it not just a just a bike .It's a companion for Matthew
They are 👍
Another great video Matt, not far from me this, so I'll put it on my to go list too. Are those panniers the Digley bags we've just discussed via email?
Hi Steve, yes they’re the Digley bags 👍
Have you seen the recent Classic 650 pictures out and about? It looks fantastic. Would you consider trading in?
I saw the pictures yesterday, not 100% convinced about some of the styling (mudguards look a bit naff) but I’ll wait until I see one for real. I’ve been waiting for this bike for a while now!
@ClassicRides It is only one picture to be fair, but I think it looks great. The burgundy/white looks fantastic. You're right about the mudguards, though. I saw a couple of Enfields in Ilkley last week, I only caught a glimpse and assumed they were older bikes that had been bobber-ised. Now I'm wondering if it was actually the new 650's out and about. No doubt they'll be at the NEC in Nov.
@@benschofield7565 It'll certainly be interesting to see them, could be the one bike to rule them all.
In a week, next Saturday, I will go for a walk with mine....... Thank you for this very beautiful video
I hope you enjoy it 👍🏻
Your helmet model?
It’s a Hedon Heroine Racer 👌
Please try and get a ride of BSA gold star, would love to see your video on it.
I’d love to try one, sadly I’m not in the ‘press bike’ club so I wouldn’t hold your breath 😁
In this worst time
You gave me a little peace ❤
Glad to have been of help 👍🏻
Love the sound of that 350 single. Pure music.
Thanks for beautifull sites , thanks for perfect job.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I enjoyed that so much. Thankyou. I passed my CBT 6 weeks ago and I am just pootling around the roads of North Wales and Shropshire just like you do in your videos. Never tearing along, just enjoying the ride. If I had my full license I would buy something like a Triumph Bonneville or a Royal Enfield.... who needs a massive Harley in Britain? (I might feel differently tho in a few years when I feel the need to go much futher afield and get that Fat Boy!!!). Pls keep making these vids, so chilled out and relaxing. Phil
Thanks Phil, I hope you're enjoying life on two wheels (it's much better when the weather's half decent!).
Lovely scenery Matt 👌
The Royal Enfield is the perfect bike for such trips along lanes ,
I have a 350cc Meteor and get out and about in back roads and lanes country & Coastal rds , it gives you peaceful mind set . Thanks for the video 😊
Thanks Carl, I agree the 350 is a fantastic engine in any of RE's latest bikes 👍🏻
Hi friend, first of all, thank you for your great work, you are one of the best on RUclips. One question, what model of saddlebags do you carry and what supports? Thanks!!!
Glad you like the channel, thanks. The bags are my own, if you'd like more information on them you can find them on my website at www.classic-rides.co.uk
Your history is so amazing over there Matt....Australia is a long way behind in years obviously
Great filming....and still dig that RE. Take care 😊
Thanks Mark, Australia has an interesting history too I think, just a few less castles 😁
Top level use of light and exposure control my friend! And that clip of what looked like a Tornado was fantastic too! The Classic 350 is a perfect bike for these sorts of rides.
The jets that day were brilliant, I only got one on camera but it seemed as though there were quite a few zipping about.
A Pure Cinematic delight Thanks Matt keep them coming
Glad you liked it Peter, hopefully the weather will allow a few more videos before the years ends.
As I’ve said before after watching one of your vids, I always say to myself must try harder, nice production.
We all do things differently, making videos my way is a total pain in the rear to do 😁
Best closeup detail montage yet Matt! And of course the rest was brilliant as well. You had me at the gear shifter Mate! 🤠
Thanks, it's a bike that warrants a closer look 😁
Just in time after finishing my little Sunday morning ride with missus finding a breakfast spot and morning coffee on my new Meteor 350, this Royal Enfield machine indeed put alot of smiles per miles.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying your RE Faisal.
Another great video! I really like the way both your bikes are set up with an auxiliary headlamp mounted to the crash bars. Can you provide some details in a future video, please? Where did you source it and the mounting bracket from? Is it wired into the headlamp circuit or does it have a separate switch altogether? And, why is it mounted on the right side on the Triumph, and the left side on the Royal Enfield? It looks like a nice functional addition for night riding and I like a asymmetry of it. Thank you. 🙂
Thanks Kevin, glad you liked the video. Yes I'll probably do a video on the spotlights at some point in the future as I get a lot folk asking questions about them. But to answer your questions in a very quick way, the lights and brackets are sourced from ebay, the lights are both old 1960/70's units. They're both wired straight to the battery on their own loom, but they have a switch connected to a relay that takes it's feed from a switched live on the bikes' main wiring loom. And reasons for the different placement on both bikes is it's just what I thought looked good for each bike within the limited places available to mount them.
@ClassicRides Thank you very much! Looking forward to a video with more details somewhere down the road.
Just lovely, uplifting too 👍🏻
Glad you liked it Adrian.
❤
Stunning video as always. What camera’s do you use?
Thanks Clint, if you watch my recent Q&A video, I go over my cameras in that 👍🏻
@@ClassicRides missed that episode for some reason. Watching it now 😍
Nice to see the drone get some flying time! This is perhaps one of the most accomplished pieces you've made, Matt. Certainly up there with your very best work.
Thanks Simon, my experiments continue. This time I was messing about with diopters on the action camera. Some total failures which didn't make it onto the video, but where it worked it really looks like I've mounted a full frame camera to the bike 😁
@@ClassicRides Keep experimenting! One idea occurred to me (though I haven't followed through on it), and that was to go through and analyse how much of the total film time was occupied with the camera either mounted on the bike or yourself (e.g. chest) versus the time it was mounted stationary on a tripod. Then compare that with the films you were making 12 or 24 months ago.
@@ReelRidersPodcast For me at least I think there would be more 'off-bike' footage now. I've been slowly improving my kit to make the off bike shots easier to do so I could add more in, they're always the most popular parts of my videos; still a major pain to do though!
Lovely video!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Honda 350 or classic 350
I’ve never ridden the Honda 350 so couldn’t say really.
@@ClassicRides ohk
Thanks Matt for such an excellently presented video. I’m lucky to have those roads almost as my back yard. And there’s loads more spectacular routes to go at too.
Looking forward to seeing another one of your interactive 360 videos as seems a while since you last did one.
Thanks again
Paul…
Thanks Paul, glad you liked the video. I probably won’t be doing the interactive videos again. YouTuube seems to have abandoned the technology so it doesn’t work that well these days.
Sehr schön ❤
Thanks 🙏
I know we've all been disappointed by the weather the summer, and how none of us have got out on our bikes as much as we wanted, but when I see this, I don't care. If this was the only film you'd got to make this year's it would have been enough.
Thank you for spending the time to shoot something beautiful, from the autumn-turning leaf dappled in sunlight, to the gently vibrating dial, in tune with bob-bob-bob of the motor, for framing six different shots just for starting up and riding off when others would be happy to give us but one.
This is craftsmanship, true craftsmanship.
Thanks Alex, hopefully I’ll get to squeeze in a few more videos before the year is done 🤞
Love the footage of the blue sky in your review mirrors and the sky in front of you when it was blue. Just have some great work here. Thank you for sharing. It's well worth the wait.
Glad you think so, hoping for a few more blue skies before the year is out 🤞
Wow. Excellent production. Well done. 👍
Thanks Dave 🙏
A perfect combination…. 🙏🏻
Quite agree 👍
Looked a nice ride out 👍🏼
A rare day without rain, would’ve been wrong to miss it.
