Hey John i think these are the nicest diy bar clamps on RUclips one of my biggest reasons for the comment is they simply do not look homemade but look like something that may have been commercially available to Woodworking professionals in the past thanks for another great design and a good video on the build i enjoy the details you show and the advice/comments you offer in them
Matter of fact, practical, ingenious, and beautiful. Heisz makes a good safety point about his “comfort” with his table saw. Finally, one can never have too many clamps!
Like how you began the video by showing viewers the most typical use of long bar clamps for us woodworkers! They don’t need to be extremely strong for a glue up of panels nor for 95% of any other woodworking application they may be used for. These clamps seem to be your best design and are much easier to build. You are always trying to help your audience understand so that we can “build it” easily ourselves. Thanks, it’s appreciated!
They look so simple in the photograph, but then when you break it down step by step . all of the work you put in the building these things, not to mention the video production very well done. thank you John.
These clamps are wonderful John. Your instruction is clear and precise and all the additional jigs and tit bits of knowledge are so helpful for the novice like me. Greatly appreciated
John, I've watched most of your videos over the years. Very impressive and I love your no nonsense approach. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make these plans and provide us with them. Very ingenious. Thanks so much for the effort and time you spent.
Couldn't agree more with your comment - superb quality not only of the product but also the really lovely production of the video - that was like watching a 15 minute movie, manna from heaven when you're into this kind of thing! Thank you.
Thank you John. Nicely done. I just bought the plans even though I'm advanced enough in my woodworking journey that I could make them by just watching this video. I bought them because I've been watching your videos for many years now and appreciate you keeping it real and honest. I have some RUclips content myself, and I know it's often a thankless job. So here's my $8 and a thumbs up for a Thank You.
Hello John, it’s hard to explain how much people like you help others sharing your knowledge and experience, they are such a nice clamps looks amazing and sure works as intended. Thanks man for sharing!
I really like your vidios, some people will always piss and moan about things, don't let it get to you. I appreciate your talent and skill. Thank you , you have helped me become a better woodworker
Hi John, Super job and very well described. Thank you for the time and effort you put into making these videos. Indeed you can never have enough clamps and this tutorial will save big bucks over buying a factory bar clamp. Awesome indeed.
Thanks for making this project using the best material and methods available. I think a lot of us appreciate seeing some next-level stuff, whether to learn a concept or use it as a practical tutorial. Also, awesome notch-cutting jig.
Beautiful work indeed. They are a joy to behold.Being a practical person myself I always make my special clamps out of steel. Not as satisfying but very strong , effective and quick to make.
I've watched this three or four times now, and I'm still just taken back about how beautiful a wood clamp can be! :) I appreciate the amount of attention and detail you put into your plans and your videos, especially for us novices out here. I've built your large k-body clamps and use them all the time. I can't wait to make these some day. My "woodshop" (haha - garage) is starting to like like it's Heisz designed. Wait, if you saw my shop you'd be insulted that I said that - so never mind :D Also, just made your table saw fence - amazing. Thanks, John!
I been watching your channels for a long time and just got these plans because heck its Christmas and you've been doing great work. I know it's not much, but thanks for the channel both knowledge and entertainment.
good to see you have figured the advantage of a piece of mdf covered with melamine in the bottom of the thickness planer. I have used this method for many years and find it not only decreases friction but it almost eliminates snipe. 1/4" melamine covered mdf also makes a nice top for the table saw when the insert is not perfect or you need a zero clearance insert.
Finally some guy who knows what he is doing and not afraid to show that, explain what and how. Doesn't need to show us how to sand for a flashing 10 seconds.
Maybe it's just me, but I really like that you show your saw getting stuck in hard wood just like the rest of us instead of editing those bits out and making it look like everything always goes perfectly.
I must have one helluva table saw...that part shocked me. I've got an 80s vintage Delta/Rockwell Model 10 Contractor's Saw with a Forrest 48T full kerf blade and cherry, maple, oak...butter...all cuts pretty consistently. Now two weeks ago when the blade and fence were way out of alignment resulting in the back end of the blade pinching the work against the fence...yeah...there was some struggle there...but now that the blade and fence are parallel to the table mitre slots to within 0.0015"... it's a gem. I've also gotta point out that my heart stopped a couple times when I saw the workpiece start to climb up the back of the blade...yikes!
@@jensdavidsen4557 i honestly think its the blade he is using. I was helping my younger brother do some trim for a baot he is building and his saw has almost no power. We put his 6 inch small kerf blad on and had none of the binging issues that we where having with the big blade. thats why you see the burn marks. "work blades seem to rip though everything with no damage to the blade but seem to have more issues with bnding and upkick like that.
Just started watching this channel after I saw one of his other projects. I didn't read the title, the video starts and I'm like those are really nice clamps. Then he makes them, awesome.
Great build, Sharp look... great functionality,.. two thumbs up! Your primary shop teacher must be so proud. the pupil has become the master!!! I enjoy watching your talent displayed. Thank You. IJN
loved the video John, very informative, i find the making of jigs and tools fascinating, but I'm reasonably new to the work shop and have just begun to use the machines again after years away so please forgive me but your lack of safety is scary, i will probably do the same as i get more confident but until then i will keep my fingers in a safe area away from saw blades and drills. all the best.
I watched it to the end and now I am going out to buy some clamps, back in a minute. Although I did subscribe because you know your stuff and you have a ton of tricks thanks.
Love your videos... I always feel like I can make anything after watching your videos. Still need to find time to make the box joint jig... Every time you put out a video my to do list grows larger.
Glad to see you back! Hope you didn't get that dam flu like me! Wow! Thought I was a gonner. One of these days I need to make some clamps like you. You are the clamp king for sure! Please keep making us videos, as we love to hear your thoughts and watch you build.
Nice build John , however I made somehow similar long clamps but faced a problem where the notchs kept chipping , maybe I was tightening too much or the wood wasn't hard enough , so I had to make holes in the moving part and through the bar every two inchs or so but not exceeding the length of the threaded metal bar and inserted a moving dowell , that made it stronger.
Nice looking clamps and great work with the Jigs. A question John. With the bars being wood, have you considered glue squeeze out and either sticking to the work piece, and or the glue soaking into the notches and reducing the effectiveness Sorry I don't mean to be negative. Love your work / videos
John, your clamps look awesome! I am new to woodworking and struggling to understand why to go through all this work to make them when you can buy Bessey pipe clamp sets for $13 and cheap black pipe. I sure hope you answer. If they are advantageous I will put in the work. Thanks for the content!
My first career I was a steel fabricator/welder. I cut miles of aluminum with just a standard circular saw with a carbide blade. Never had any problems with that. Of course it would be smart to wear a face shield because sometimes with heavy use a carbide tooth would come off the blade.
My boat friends cut aluminum pipe and plate with a wood cutting blade on a miter saw daily. You definitely want to wear eye and ear protection though...nothing worse than a tiny piece of alum in your eye. Thank you for posting this. I need to build some of these clamps now!
Sold. Have some longer than usual turbine blades to laminate so I think I'll make a few of these instead of buying them, save a couple hundred $. Thanks for the plans!
Okay so awesome clamps....and more importantly beautiful shop, very thought out! I found myself looking at your cabinets and such more lol. I'd like a video tour of it!
That is one great clamp design John, I really like it.They look great and I bet they are working just as good. And btw....love the automatic preparation of the next dab of PU glue at 7:29

There are a LOT of bar-clamp builds on RUclips and this is the best yet.
Great video! In a shop where hundreds of clamps are needed this is a great solution
I love your sarcasm and the details you give. I have subscribed.

Look really nice. Saving this to my favorites. Never too many clamps.
Thanks John, these look like the best clamps ever. Just ordered a set of plans.
Nice job. I like the jib you made for making the saw-tooth notches. Sure beets filing or using the band saw in your previous video.
Very nice indeed. Working on getting another workshop so I can get creative again. Thanks for the inspiration
Excellent design, clever process and wonderful results. Truly an impressive video!
You're like a good comedian, who's act has evolved over time. The subtext in this video is superb;-)
besides the clamps ingenious the notch cutting just as good.

I enjoy watching your talent displayed.
Thank You.

How do you keep the wood clamps from sticking to the wood project during glue-up? ;-)
The trick is to only build projects that have a clamp or two as part of the design, then just leave these in there.
:)
You can use clear packing tape or plastic wrap I guess.
I read farther down in the comments +TheGeekPub and he says paste wax is your friend
pledge spray furniture polish works well, or just rub them with a candle.
Wax paper seems to work the best for me
Mr john ilike your video and ilove woodworking
Your best iteration yet!! These look super gorgeous, John, well done!
Those are some good looking clamps. I like the design.
love the mini table saw sled !
making one for mine tomorrow

Very nice idea, John. I will make some. Many thanks for making the plans available.

Love your home made clamps, very nice technique use to build them
Super technique and nice video Mr. John

Great project John. These are on my list of things to build.
Congratulations, you are a genius, you have done an outstanding job!

Nice way to improvise with the temporary clamps.
