I was so hoping you would do this! VP makes it come alive, 3 dimensional! Thank you, again,Huldra! Keep them coming (but I hope you get some sleep too!)❤
I love vp version, but they lack "mea culpa" in the background that gives original song more layers, because mea culpa is translated "my fault" while Frollo is single "is not my fault". It's a nice reflection on Frollo's hypocrisy and his character in general.
You might prefer Peter Hollens acapella version of this song. Think that VP beats Disney hands down but it would be a tougher call between the acapella versions
You're kidding, right Huldra? You're such a mischievous little sprite! There are maybe three or four songs out of the gazillion VP and Geoff have done between them that I DON'T like more than the original, and then it's mostly a tie. One that springs to mind is their version of POTO, but that's because I got to see Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman doing it live so I'm a little spoiled. But Voiceplay's is my favorite cover. I'll tell you my second favorite though, it's Peter Hollens's! He also does my favorite version of "Be Prepared." Well, until Voiceplay or Geoff does a full version anyway...😉 Oh, and Voiceplay also managed to beat JOSH FREAKING GROBAN (**ahem** sorry) out with their cover of "Pure Imagination." Josh is my favorite "commercial" soloist, and let's be honest, he's a hard act to follow. But Voiceplay does. I also prefer their version of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters!"❤
The original voice actor (sorry, his name is escaping me) could not hit the final high note and asked for the song to be put in a lower key. Alan Menken refused and sent him to singing lessons until he could hit and sustain that note. Geoff hits that note, then take it up in a glorious belt, and then drops everything an octave lower than the original. I swear, Disney just needs to hire VoicePlay for a whole movie already. Bring in all the guests, make it a whole show. Name the movie "A CAPPELLA" and it's about the magic of the human voice. No instruments, the score is all vocals.
Of the 77 comments at the time of post, 4 of them prefer the original to VoicePlay. If you add my vote, that makes it 5/78 that prefers the original. The song is emotional and twisted. I think the original captures that way better than VP.
Okay, apparently people are making judgement without ever having heard Voiceplay's version, so I don't think that's a valid judgement. I've seen both. The original is just Tony Jay singing. He has a good voice, but nothing really super special about it. Voiceplay elevates it. But, to each their own. And then there are the trolls, being ugly. They should be ignored.
@@DiaryandPoetry I see your point. I really don't know the original of Magic Dance and couldn't find it on YT - so I have to believe you. It also seems like a really fast production. Time Warp on the other hand is (for me) the hilariously compressed short version of that old film trimmed to let everybody shine in the famous "brand of dumb". So - it's pure VP.... 🥰🤪
@@karinwolf9639Magic Dance is from the Henson Movie "Labyrinth" (1986) with David Bowie and Jennifer Conelly. I really love that movie, so maybe thats my problem with the VP version. ruclips.net/video/z6DJmp21vcQ/видео.html I cant really explain what wrong with the Timewarp for me. I see your point and it is fun to hear/see the Video. Still it´s not quite the blast i might have expected.
I´m going to be honest: I hadn´t seen the Movie before i heard the Voiceplay Version of hellfire. And after i had seen it i was really disappointed by the disney-Versions (i watched that scene both in German and in english). The German dub of disneymovies always was a banger around that time, but that movie was really disappointing. especially that scene. And the english version wasn´t really better. No comparison to the voiceplay version. So, take my advice, disney, if you ever remake the synchronisation or the whole movie, get voiceplay on board.
It would be hard for anyone to top Voiceplay’s version, but the Disney version sounds pretty lame by contrast. Hellfire is one of Geoff’s best leads, I think. ❤️
Love voiceplay version, just wished the part with mea culpa was a bit darker with a heavy choir maybe. But I like it more than the original and Geoff showing off like always 😊
Hola desde Argentina... Definitivamente Voiceplay wins!!! Al Frolo de Disney le falta una buena sopa... Muy debil su voz... Jajajaja un abrazo a la distancia 😊
The original here is in a different key than it’s supposed to be. It’s raised a step up, so it doesn’t have the normal effect that it should. My personal favorite (aside from Voiceplay obvi) is the one sung by Patrick Page in the stage production of Hunchback.
I have never been a fan of the Disney version… Voiceplays version is absolutely amazing, they turned one of my least favorite Disney songs into one of my favorites… Voiceplay for the win for sure…❤
I like the voices from the voice play but hate the music they incorporated with it, and the Disney version just sets the mood from the movie and just sounds like the song to play back in that time and place
I used to absolutely loved the original but then voice play and Geoff remixed it and now I'm totally smitten by the remake and I want their version put into the movie
For the sake of an open mind, I went ahead and listened to it. My opinion hasn't changed. For context I only saw hunchback once as a kid and I'm indifferent to a capella. I fully acknowledge some of the voicework I heard was good on a technical level, and again I'm sure some of their covers are great. But if we're talking about which one better captures "evil rapacious priest" vibe, I think Tony Jay's performance was better and far more organic. In the end my ears just like the original more. Nothing wrong with the Voiceplay version, but I think to call it better is a stretch and personally it's not my jam.
@@fangoroth6600Fair enough. Thank you for giving it a chance. You should check out more of their stuff. The Bass, Geoff Castellucci, has his own channel where he does non-acapella stuff. He has a five octave range.
VoicePlay every time! ❤️🎶
Voiceplay of course!!
VoicePlay always!
Voiceplay hands down the complete total winner.
VoicePlay!
Voice play did such a great job that I watch it over and over.
I was so hoping you would do this! VP makes it come alive, 3 dimensional! Thank you, again,Huldra! Keep them coming (but I hope you get some sleep too!)❤
VP all the way!
I agree that VP wins this one. The harmonies and beatboxing along with Geoff going lower and lower just blow the Disney version out of the water.
I love vp version, but they lack "mea culpa" in the background that gives original song more layers, because mea culpa is translated "my fault" while Frollo is single "is not my fault".

VoicePlay wins! I feel like they made a remix version of the song and incorporated so much more depth.

2 words...ONLY GEOFF
There is no contest. VoicePlay has this hands down.
My Favorite Is Voiceplay 😊😊😊😊
VoicPlay wins they have more depth and the song just sounds better all the way around.
Voiceplay 🔥🔥🔥
Hellfire by VP is on whole another level
Hands down...Voiceplay!!!!!!
Fact is: To this second EVERY song that got the honor of a full VP-treatment has sounded way better to me than the original. Why? Just because... 🎉😂❤
I sadly can´t agree to this. I was a bit disappointed by the Timewarp and Magic Dance. Though they are Minis, not full songs.

You’ve got to add the Papermill Playhouse Stage official recording where you have Patrick Page singing for Frollo.
Voiceplay
Has got to be VoicePlay. No doubt about it.
Xisney that villans voice is perfection
I jam to both repeatedly
Just like Tony did a better phantom, Geoff did a better frollo

VoicePlay has more emotion in it.
I think tomi captures it perfectly
This isn't a fair comparison 😅 voice play for the win
Surely Voiceplay 👍👏👏💯😘
VoycePlay sans hésitation.
There is no question at all. Of course: the winner is VOICEPLAY!!! 'Hellfire' is one of my favorite covers they ever did. 🤗
Meine auch. Obwohl: GRUSELIG!! 😮😅
Auf j e d e n Fall VoicePlay .❤❤ 😊

VoicePlay 1000%
I never liked this song until VoicePlay covered it. Geoff is significantly better 😍😍😍
And Eli is 🔥 too!!!
@@snapdoc yeah 😉
voiceplay forever! ❤
VoicePlay for the win! Always! ❤
Vouceplay sounds better overall as a single song but as a storytelling device Disney is better
The voice play version
Voiceplay always.
Is this a trick question 🤣🤣
I think this misses the internal struggle but it's alright
😊
Sorry Disney, you lose this contest. Now to go watch the whole Voiceplay video.

VP yes.
Ребята лучше.Драматичнее.Да голоса намного лучше
You should check out the Johnathan Young version of this song
Дисней, без исключения, группа же даже не рядом
Disney hands down. Don’t ever mess with one of the greatest villain songs. VoicePlay guys seem like they already turned to sin.
By greatness of vocals - definitely Voiceplay. By portraying a usual man being the most horrible villain -Disney. Sorry guys.
Voice play sounds novel in comparison
Voice play wins!
Never Disney, that’s for sure. 😅
Tomi p tbh
Disney.
Why asking?
The original, how is this even a question? I'm sure Voiceplay does good covers, but the original just sounds so much better.
Have you actually ever SEEN Voiceplay's full version? I mean, just the singing is so much better and more creative and impactful. But, you do you!

VoicePlay and Geoff manage to make me like their version more than any idol's original version.
Voiceplay of course.
I hate that movie.
Whoever the second group was , they were cringey 🫵🏼
Voice play sounds like shit
Absolutely Voiceplay.👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🫠
