    As much as people hate on the Prequels, what Lucas dd MASTERFULLY, was that he made you fall in love with Anakin... Fully knowing his destiny to fall to the dark side. We all know who he will become, but we still root for him to do the right thing, and it hurt us to see him fall. And that there is what makes the Prequels special to me

    You have to remember that Luke only trained with Obi-Wan and later Yoda for a very short period of time, while most Jedi train their whole lives so that's why he didn't do any of the flips or advanced saber techniques. He's still a novice compared to the Jedi of old

    The musical track accompanying that 2 on 1 lightsaber battle was called the “Duel of the Fates.” It’s been explained by Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm producer, that the “fate” of boy Anakin rested in that fight. Qui-Gon was to be the father figure that was missing, and due to his death, Obi-Wan was tasked to train him to the promise he kept to his master. Thus, the fate of Anakin was altered and started his path to becoming Darth Vader.

  • @keighlancoe5933

    Anakin was *literally* created by the force itself. Basically Darth Sidious and his master tried doing some kind of experiment to corrupt the nature of the force and make it...idk...more evil, to try and increase their power. The force responded by creating Anakin to destroy the Sith once and for all. Anakin is basically space jesus. This isn't a spoiler as such, you don't find out this in any of the movies.

    Here's the reason(s) for the trilogies being released out-of-order:
    1. George Lucas, who created Star Wars, styled the first film to pay homage to 1950s sci-fi serials like Flash Gordon (which also opened with a text crawl). When developing the idea for SW, Lucas wanted the audience to "jump in" during the middle of an epic story. This is why the first film is set during the middle of the galactic civil war, and much of the backstory leading up to the events of _A New Hope_ is only vaguely referenced.
    2. When the original film was released in 1977, Lucas had no plans to do a trilogy or even a sequel. The film was simply called "Star Wars" with no subtitle or episode number. At the time, the Death Star was meant to represent the Empire, with Vader being the highest authority. Thus, with the Death Star destroyed and Vader alone in a TIE fighter, the Empire was meant to be defeated and the Rebellion had won. However the original film was an unexpected major success, and so Lucas began work on writing a sequel. It was at this point that Lucas decided the overall story would be a trilogy, and the numbering system was introduced. As stated, Lucas wanted this to be the "latter half" of a larger story, and that's why the first film is "IV" and not "I." When V was released, the original film opening was retconned to include the "Episode IV: A New Hope" header, since V has "The Empire Strikes Back." If you take time to examine the latter two films, you notice that V basically sets up a completely new storyline - the romance between Leia and Solo, Luke training to be a Jedi, the revelation of who Vader is, etc. The only elements carried over from the first film are the characters, the Empire, the Rebels, etc. _A New Hope_ is a self-contained story, whereas _The Empire Strikes Back_ and _Return of the Jedi_ are both part of a two-part story.
    3. After the release of _Return of the Jedi,_ Lucas contemplated doing a prequel trilogy, but was more or less done with SW. It wasn't until 1999 that _The Phantom Menace_ was released. The main goals for the prequel trilogy were of course, to more thoroughly explain the backstory alluded to in the original trilogy....how Anakin becomes Vader, how the Empire comes to power, who the Emperor is, the Clone Wars, the Jedi Knights, the Old Republic, etc. Being prequels of course, this is why they are numbered "I, II, III."

    Your speculations for the next two films got me wanting those reactions ASAP!! This was awesome, Ep 1 got so much nonsense hate that led to disgusting, shameful treatment of the Anakin and Jar-Jar actors, and the prequels in general. But I've always LOVED IT, and am so pumped about how stoked you were the whole time. Jake Lloyd made young Anakin such a badass, and his performance instantly underscored how devastating Darth Vader's fall was. I remember going to the theatre often just to play the pod-racing arcade game lol. I don't think I've ever seen anyone being so much in love with young Anakin as you, bro! Wonderful to see. And considering that you recognized Hayden Christensen as the adult Anakin Skywalker at the very end of ROTJ, & you don't know him as Anakin, that makes me long for your next two SW reactions! I've never heard of anyone liking Hayden without ever having seen him as Anakin yet! And you wanna know how & why Anakin turns to the Dark Side. Trust me, you will find out. It's not pretty. It's super tragic. Disturbing. Twisted. And Hayden DELIVERS! Many would not agree with me but I think you will. I can already tell you love Anakin as a character, I am confident you'll love what Hayden offers to the role. He will freak you out, no doubt, but that is what he's supposed to do. How else can that sweet 9 year old kid one day become Vader? And, BTW, you already by watching TPM predicted a very important event that will happen in Ep 2 that has VERY much to do with why Anakin falls to the Dark Side! I gasped when you spoke of it already here! I can not wait for you to see it for yourself, knowing you had already guessed it! It's not the full reason why Anakin falls but it is a very major step why, the initial first dark step. I can't believe you saw that coming before you've seen it! Damn, you are GOOD at paying attention & connecting dots! Lucas himself would surely be impressed by you. Me, as a lifelong SW fan since early 80-ees sure am impressed.

    So, you know how when Force users die they become Force Ghosts? It's a hypothesis that those ghosts can also will themselves back to life, kind of like immaculate conception and being your own father, Anakin was one who did, which is why his mother couldn't name the father. In a way they were making him out to be Jesus-like, their Jedi Saviour. They do the same religious symbolism with Superman too.

  • @TheBoondocksaint117

    Man, I love your enthusiasm for each of these movies. It's infectious. Some lore for you: Jedi begin training at the temple when they're 3-4 years old. When they start manifesting Force abilities, a member of the Jedi Order comes and tests them. If they are strong enough to become Jedi, they are taken to the temple. Most families willingly let them go, knowing it's the best path for their child in order to live up to their full potential. But if a family doesn't want to let them go, the Jedi will take them by force, reasoning it's in the child's best interest. At the temple, the children are taught to forsake emotional attachments to their families, since Jedi believe emotions and attachment are the path to the Dark Side of the Force. The reason they say Anakin is too old, even though he's nine, is because he is old enough to have an emotional attachment to his mother and he cares about her welfare.
    The Force is both the light side and dark side. There are many religions that focus on one aspect or the other. Jedi are a religion dedicated to the light side, while Sith are a religion dedicated to the dark side. But being Force-sensitive does not make you a Jedi or Sith. You have to adhere to their specific dogmas to be one of them. So if Anakin never trained in the Force but started manifesting light side powers as he got older, he wouldn't automatically be a Jedi. Similarly, if he naturally went to the dark side without any training, he wouldn't be a Sith.
    All Sith Lords have "Darth" in their title. It is their new name when they give themselves to the Sith religion. Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Darth Sidious are the ones you know from the original trilogy and this film. Unlike the Jedi Order, which has 10,000 members during the time this movie takes place, there are only ever two Sith Lords. That is the most important rule of their religion. It is how they have remained hidden from the Jedi for over a thousand years, waiting for the right moment to reveal themselves.

    • @OhThatRobin
      @OhThatRobin 2 года назад +1

      Oh my gosh! Would they really take them by force? :,0
      I was reading a Star Wars novel that takes place about 500 years before this movie and one of the characters explicitly retorts someones accusation that Jedi steal them away and says they simply won’t train them. That setting is supposedly a more idealistic moment in republic and Jedi history though so honestly it could be a more recent thing

      @@OhThatRobin Yes. Here is a brief excerpt from "The Jedi Path", which is basically a handguide to being a Jedi. On the subject of recruitment and families who won't give their child up willingly, it has this to say: "Within the Republic, the Jedi Order has the legal authority to take custody of Force-Sensitives, and some Masters have argued that the Force's presence in a child indicates the child's consent to join the Order even before he or she is able to speak."

      The Jedi Order became corrupt after a Jedi Master called Nomi Sunrider died some three thousand years before the movies. From there they just became an opposite mirror to the Sith instead of servants of the light.

    The way I see it with the Jedi sensing fear in Anakin. For one, he's already different because every other Jedi is taken to the temple as babies where they can't remember their life before the Jedi. Not only is he older but he lived as a slave where all he had was his attachments to his mom and friends and lived every day in fear. Because of that and seeing his clouded future, they actually act in fear of him by hesitating to let him train. They rejected Anakin in front of him, and now that he's being trained, he knows a lot of them didn't want him to be. That's hard for a nine year old. I think that impacts his fall to the dark side.
    Also, Anakin is 9 in this and Padme is 14 so only 5 years apart. The next movie takes place 10 years later. The third one takes place 3 years after the second one.
    They refer to the prophecy and Anakin being the chosen one. Some people like to debate if it's him or Luke. But George Lucas says that Anakin absolutely is the Chosen One and completes the prophecy when he kills Palpatine. Dave Filoni, who was the showrunner of Clone Wars made the show with this in mind.
    And the sequels, 7-9, do have some good parts to them that I really enjoy and have amazing actors. The storylines are not good and pretty much counteract a lot of what George Lucas created. He had some ideas for what the sequels should be, and I think we can all agree Lucas has great story ideas even if he can't always execute them well. However, Disney (who he sold Star Wars to and he had no real say in what was being made) was like nah we're going to do something else. They didn't even have an arc for the whole trilogy even though they knew they were making a trilogy. And while the original wasn't planned as a trilogy Lucas still had in his head a lot of backstory and the prequels were all definitely planned to be connected. Instead, they brought in JJ Abrams to direct and was like 'you write a script, do whatever you want.' But he only wrote the script for 7 and only directed 7. They brought in a new director for 8 and was like do what you want. Had some really cool moments but was in no way really connected to 7 and there was a lot people didn't like. They brought back Abrams for 9 to basically fix the trilogy, and that's what a lot of fans were saying too when he came back. 9 was shown to test audiences and absolutely flopped so Disney brought in George Lucas to advise how to fix it. When you watch it you can tell they were trying to clean it up especially at the beginning. I do think you should watch them, because every Star Wars fan has. Cinematically, they're shot wonderfully. They have a lot of awesome moments where you're like whoah. And all of the actors are amazing, but you will see some disconnect from the other 6 movies and from each other. I just wanted to explain so you'd know why they are the way they are. They're not necessarily bad movies, just not good movies.
    Fun fact: The last season of Clone Wars, the only one done with Disney, came out after all the sequels in 2020. It was such a huge success in comparison to the sequels. Dave Filoni who was in charge of the show from the beginning in 2008 was also involved in the Mandalorian. Essentially, he's such a huge Star Wars nerd that knows all the lore and fans love him for it. (He literally got the job for clone wars while working on last airbender while the prequels were coming out and it spread like wild fire he was a fan of star wars. He got a call for an interview for a star wars show and thought it was prank. It wasn't. He met George Lucas and he said it wasn't even an interview they just talked about Star Wars. Filoni left thinking he didn't get the job but didn't care because he net Lucas and yet he got the job basically for being a fan and a good animator and storyteller.) Because he was so good at making sure the show connected 2 and 3 and everything matched up i.e. making sure nothing happened in the show that was supposed to happen in episode 3, they brought him onto Mandalorian to make sure all the stories matched up. Also because the sequels weren't a success and his show was and they wanted the Mandalorian to be big. He did so well on both, he's now essentially in charge of all Star Wars content to make sure the stories are good and there are no major plot conflicts. (A lot of fans also like him because when Disney bought Star Wars they said all star wars content besides the movies made before this is no longer cannon. There's a lot of Star Wars book about after the original and during the original and way before the prequels ever take place. Essentially, a lot of history and lore in the Star Wars universe that Disney invalidated. He's slowly sneaking in things and making them cannon again.) Sorry for all the info.

    I had the exact same reaction watching this in 1999 when it came out seeing all the cool stuff Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan could do as Jedi in their prime. "Man, Luke's training was NOWHERE near complete when he beat the Emperor." These guys studied at the Jedi Temple and had an assigned master for years and years, and Luke just had a few lessons from Obi-Wan on his way to Alderaan and then from Yoda in Dagobah. A few weeks at most. If Luke wasn't ridiculously strong with the Force just like Vader, he'd been the worst Jedi ever.

      Totally agree, in order to fully understand why Anakin became what he became (without spoiling anything) the Clone Wars series is almost mandatory to watch! It starts kind of slow and at times mediocre in the first season and to some degree in the second one, but it will eventually become absolutely fantastic in later seasons! :)
      Also, despite not loved by all Star Wars fans, I would also recommend watching the Rebels series after the Clone Wars series before going to the Mandalorian series, because otherwise there is some more in-depth information lacking to at least one of the Mandalorian characters. In addition, I personally think the Rebels series was pretty decent overall and especially from mid-season 2 onwards got really good.
      And of course, watching the Rogue One movie is also a must, but again considering the release order and certain characters in the movie, I wouldn't watch it before watching the Clone Wars series (and maybe even the Rebels series).
      There is still a whole huge universe of content ahead of you, so I hope you will keep enjoying your journey. :)

      @Classic Western Fan... I agree with the majority of your suggestion, and if he turns out to enjoy this prequel trilogy, he will actually love the Clone Wars/Rebels/The Mandalorian.. as they are all in line with this SW Universe. The Mandalorian is currently where Star Wars is now. There is no 7, 8, 9.

    Yes, Luke was a boss in ROTJ. but he is still very new as a Jedi Knight & have much more to learn. One can say that when it comes to the Force you are never fully learned. And the Jedi of the Prequels shows us the Jedi at the height of their power, the many more powers & skills they master that Luke has not even begun to learn yet, or barely so, when ROTJ ends. But I've always loved that, it shows that Luke has just gotten started & will be even better.

    Lucas wrote 4,5, and 6 first. he had the background but it wasn't complete. The studio didn't really think the movie would work so they gave Lucas a small budget and he picked a New Hope to start because he felt it was the best story to stand alone. Once New Hope became a block buster then 5, 6 came out. There was no intention to make 1,2 or 3 until the fans pushed for it. Unfortunately, the fans did not like 1,2... they enjoy 3 to a point. But since the 7,8,9 came out the fans started to appreciate 1,2 and 3 much much more.

    You're asking about what turns Anakin into Darth Vader and of course we see it in the movies some of the events, but The Clone Wars tv series really fills in A LOT of story (and also sets up Rebels and The Mandalorian and also has a spin off called The Bad Batch). It would be cool if you did reactions to the the clone wars show too, not many reactors do. You don't need to watch it to finish the movies, but I highly recommend it when you're done. It's really all the stuff that happens during the timeline of e2&e3 that leads up to e4 but that they don't show in the movies.

    I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I believe George Lucus wrote the whole story 1-6 in the 70's but knew that the movie technology wasn't at a place where the first three would be given justice (no CG etc.) so he made the plan to make 4-6 and in 20 years return to do 1-3. I remember watching Return of the Jedi when I was 5 years old and my parents telling me I would have to wait 20 years for another Star Wars movie, let me say the wait was excruciating but worth it. 😊

    According to Star Wars the novel princess Leia Organa is the daughter of King Organa of Alderaan. If Leia was princess Leia because she had royal blood in her then Luke should have been addressed as "Prince Luke" but he never ever ever ever ever is referred to as Prince Luke. Leia is only princess Leia because she was raised as royalty on Alderaan.

    "Always in motion is the future." I feel that if Yoda didn't have such a bad attitude about Anakin and just helped out, things could have been different. 36:48 He literally FEARS grave danger in Ani's training after knowing that FEAR is the path to the Dark Side. Anakin had to fight the Council and the Dark Side all by himself.

    Simple explanation why the movies were released when they were: in charge of scheduling Yoda was. But in seriousness George Lucas didn't have the prequels fully thought out before he made 4,5, and 6. While he was making them he felt like they were more of a middle story but at the time didn't know how to write Anakin's story. Also he didn't know Star Wars was gonna be such a big thing, originally "A New Hope" was just called "Star Wars" with no number.

    These movies were not released in the order of 123, 456, etc. because they never expected to make more than one film. They thought the movie would be a flop. It was a passion project for George Lucas. So he chose the part of the story that he thought would make the best stand-alone film and that he could physically make with the technology available at the time. That happened to be episode 4. After Episode 4 was a massive success, it made sense to finish the story with a middle and final act, hence the trilogy.
    All of this prequel trilogy stuff is just fleshed out backstory from the original trilogy.

    One of Sam Jackson's demands in order to be in the movie was that he get a purple lightsaber, he's equal parts Dark Side and Light Side. Now there are 8 different colours along with the classic green, blue and red.
    The Mandalorian Empire has the black one and Force users without a Master and don't serve the Jedi or Sith use white or orange ones. There are yellow ones but they're rare, a Jedi would get the title Jedi Sentinel rather than Jedi Knight or Jedi Master, a yellow crystal is for only the most powerful Force users and we don't get to see a Jedi with a yellow lightsaber until Rise of Skywalker.

    • @ll7868
      @ll7868 2 года назад

      A wee bit more info on lightsabers;
      Jedi Knights are the military branch of the Jedi, they use blue lightsabers. Jedi Masters are the diplomats who advise & work alongside politicians and use green lightsabers. Masters will only train 1 Jedi Apprentice in the field at a time. A Jedi who balances Dark & Light evenly uses purple. A Jedi Sentinel outranks the Knights and Masters, they represent the "religious" side of the Force, kinda like their Pope, there's generally only one or two alive at any time.
      A Sith Lord is basically an evil Sentinel and there can be only one, they have a single Apprentice although many apprentices have secretly trained their own Padawans including Darth. There's nothing more satisfying to a Sith Lord than to die at the hands of their Apprentice, it means they taught them well, it's the order of things. All Sith use red lightsabers, it's done through a process called Bleeding or channeling hate & rage, any lightsaber colour they use will turn red over time.

    I believe the reason George Lucas told the story of Luke first because the story of Anakin was too dark for the time and he wanted to tell an optimistic story first. Also Anakin is 8 and Padame is 14.
