The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul

The other thing to realize that Anakin points out in the second movie is the idea that the Sith are selfish while the Jedi are supposed to be selfless, which is why he has such confliction within him. He wants to help everyone else but also wants to have a family and protect them, which is really the Dilemma of all mankind

And he tells Qui-Gon in the first episode, that he doesn’t want to bee a problem. Unfortunately, he was “the” problem in the end, because he wasn’t really Jedi material, without a master like Qui-Gon. OB1 was too young. It was too soon for him to have Ani as his padawan.

2:30 - They're saying "Droidekas", which are an upgraded version of their battle droids.
9:40 - Darth Maul is the apprentice of the hooded guy. He is NOT the Supreme Chancellor. He is, however, a Sith Lord called Darth Sidious.
10:05 - Yes, Jar Jar is a Gungan. They all speak in a child-like manner.
13:30 - Minor spoiler: George Lucas said, "Jar Jar is the key to all of this." I will say that there was a huge backlash against Jar Jar when this movie came out. I didn't really mind the character, but some people called the portrayal as "demeaning and racist", "annoying as Hell", and a lot of other things.
14:19 - He was referring to "off world" communications that could lead the Trade Federation to them, not local communications that don't have the range to be detected off world.
15:27 - Obi-Wan is back on the ship, guarding the Queen.
16:35 - She's saying there was no sex involved with her becoming pregnant. This triggers something in Qui-Gon who thinks he could have been conceived by The Force itself. There's more to that, but "spoilers".

Right upfront, the first time you see Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor take their hoods off and turn around. That conversation they're having.... is one of the most important conversations in the entire series, and it's not obvious as to why.
This small exchange is the key to this entire ideological issue -- it's part of Yoda's character arc.
Because Yoda... was wrong. And he pays for it the rest of his life.
    In Episode I -
"Don't center on your anxieties, Obi-Wan. Keep your concentration here, and now, where it belongs."
"But Master Yoda said I should be MINDFUL OF THE FUTURE."
"But not at the expense of the moment. Be mindful of the Living Force, young Padawan."
    In Episode V -
"This one... a long time have I watched. All his life, as he... looked away. To the FUTURE. To the horizon. Never his mind on where he was! Or what he was doing! Adventure? Excitement? A Jedi craves NOT these things! You are reckless!"
"Yeah, so was I, if you remember!"
    "No. He's too old."
And then Yoda starts getting cold feet because Anakin was TEN when he started training, and Luke is clearly pushing TWENTY-FIVE, and Yoda has to be coaxed back to this plan that they've had since they found out Padme was pregnant with twins.
Yoda fucked up. And he knows it. And it's hard for him to admit it. But he does.
It might be difficult to notice because the scene is Yoda's death, but even in Episode VI... he's coming to peace with the fact that leaving Dagobah and leaving his training was... probably for the best. He learned something from Vader that Yoda could never teach him. Purpose. Destiny. Motivation. Responsibility. He made it personal for Luke, and not just a story about what a bunch of old dead guys think.
That's why Luke's growth between Episode V and Episode VI is so, so fascinating to me.
Luke wanted so badly to be his father... Until he met him.
Then he decides to SAVE him.
Where everybody else just... Trained themselves to let go of everything they feared to lose.... As Yoda tells Anakin to do in Episode III.

It's admittedly a bit frustrating that this wasn't explained better, and it takes a bit of hindsight to really get down to it. I mean, that's after reading the novelization of Episode 3, and more in realizing that the novel thinks Future Luke is right. Mr L Boyd isn't there yet, but this is what Episode VIII is about.
The whole point of Episode I is that the children are celebrating the good guys winning, and the adults are seeing that something is going HORRIBLY wrong.

It's crazy to me why people can't understand the benefit of this order. The only explanation is that Star Wars has become a semi-religion and people have lost the ability to be open-minded. Knowing Anakin's story before Return of the Jedi increases the tension as to weather or not Anakin will turn back, or if Luke will follow in his fathers footsteps. Not knowing that Vader becomes good again increases the tension during Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith to see this good character and wonder how he turns into the most evil man in the universe. Also, seeing Palpatine's rise to power makes him much more an imposing figure when he is introduced as a prominent character in Return of the Jedi. The Luke/Leia twist is transferred to the end of Revenge of the Sith where it works better. The change to Hayden Chistensen in Jedi actually works if you see the other movies first. Return of the Jedi is the conclusion of the whole series, and it's just better storytelling to have the conclusion at the end. Machete order strictly better.

Sure I think maybe he needs to go into them with some context ahead of time, not about the story but maybe more about how they came about, such as Disney buying the property from Lucas and so then they have free reign to really do what they want with the franchise. Many of the people working on the movies from stagehands to grips to props to audio to directors and actors and all in between, were huge Star Wars fans, with good reason. There was a desire to get back to that feeling of a Star Wars universe that felt real, with ships that were dirty and just not as sleek as we see in the prequels, with more practical effects when possible. Not getting into the story but just know that to say it left a fanbase divided is an understatement.
For the record, I enjoyed the sequels, fully recognizing many of their flaws, but still enjoying them anyway. I've never been hyper-critical of movies to begin with. If I walk out of a movie with the thought of "That was a good time", then yes indeed I'll tell people I liked the movie.

In the world of the story, the prequel era Republic-led galaxy was at the tail end of a renaissance period that was peaceful and prosperous and appreciated craft and aesthetics. After Palpatine took over he ravages the galaxy's resources and made everything hyper-industrial and cheap working merely as a utility void of art and culture like the Empire itself. Things got damaged and destroyed during the civil war and didn't get maintained or invested in hence the disparity. In real life, George Lucas got excited about the technology available to him in the late '90s post-Jurassic Park VFX and took advantage of CGI. Not as much as people bash him for as there were actually a ton of practical miniatures, matte paintings, and in-camera special effects in this movie, apparently more than the original trilogy, just with added computer effects.

So, it is implied that with such a technique, that he is the one that created life within Anakin's mom, birthing Anakin. Jar-Jar served a primary purpose of attracting young children to enjoy the franchise with their grandparents and parents. George Lucas knew that he was going to have the over-25 set come to the film, but he wanted the toy market, too.
Jar-Jar’s secondary purpose was plot. He was the key to getting allies in episode I, he was the key gullible person as a substitute Senator to be granting emergency powers to the Emperor in Episode II.
Jar Jar is also representation for naive people everywhere-those who cannot see the big picture around them and “just want to help.” Young children are naive, but so are some adults.

Yes, Anakin’s birth was entirely a product of the Force. Immaculate conception. Anakin is essentially Star Wars Jesus, in a roundabout way. Jesus if he was corruptible, if he had the wrong guidance as a child. To keep it biblical, think of if Jesus had no earthly father, and at a young age was adopted by Pharisees. Taught only a rigid one sided view of things. Not allowed to love. Then you get a cosmically significant and powerful being who becomes unhinged when tempted or hurt.

Virgin births happened all throughout ancient mythology, and George Lucas was building off of that motif.
As a side note, when a body vanishes, such as with Jesus or Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Yoda, in the ancient world, it meant that that person had been deified. The term generally associated with this phenomenon in ancient mythology is *apotheosis* which can be defined as evolution to the status of a god.

Anakins dad is.... immaculate conception by the force. Lore wise the force is semi-sentient and has a will. Even though its not a being, its just a thing that is everywhere.
Best not to question it, because it leads to more confusing question like why would the force get her pregnant with a child who had some issues? One that was suppose to bring balance to the force. Granted Anakin indeed balanced it by wiping Jedi out so there were not many left, thus semi-living the playing field. Is the force evil then?!? This was one of the many issues these prequels started to have lore wise.
Now.... picture the force creating magic baby juice and inserting into Anakins mom while she sleeps. Your welcome for the image. lol. I mean I know it was probably some "Force created a sperm in one of the mothers egg" kinda things I imagine, just is creepier my way.

Concerning Jar Jar ...yeah. He is a very popular character among children, and a very unpopular character among adults. He had little to do with they story but was given a lot of screen time. George Lucas made a crap-load of money from merchandising after Return of the Jedi, especially Children's toys. So, if he could make Phantom Menace appealing to children (like the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi) he could get a lot of money from the production of toys. There is a lot going on here that has more to do with demographics than the story. I have heard a theory that Jar Jar Binks in a Sith lord, however, lol.
The purpose of this movie, with respect to the story, is showing how all the main characters got to where they were. It provides background for the Jedi, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, and Palpatine. Honestly, I think that the concept that Anakin was conceived by the medicloriens is more of a Sci-Fi idea than a Jesus impersonation. Further proof is that there is lore that Darth Plagus made that happen (there is a lot of Star Wars lore lore that was removed from canon with the Disney takeover). It also showed some of the background for The Hutts, which you seemed confused about after Return of the Jedi.
This does remind me of a Robot Chicken episode that always makes me laugh:
"Darth Vader: 'I am your Father!'
    Luke: 'That's impossible!'
Darth Vader: 'And Leia is you sister!'
    Luke: 'That's improbable?'
Darth Vader: 'And I built C3PO!"
    Luke: 'That's very unlikely.' "

the Grand Army of the Republic in Episode 2 as Padme's Representative while she's in hiding on Naboo with Anakin.
Also there's a theory out there that Jar Jar was originally intended to be Palpatine's master as a kind of mirror to Yoda in episodes 5 & 6 but that Licas changed the plan due to the negative fan reaction to the character. It suggests that he presents himself as an imbecile to keep his true identity a secret. It also speculates that he uses something similar to Drunken Boxing in fights to take out enemies while still maintaining an inept appearance. Maybe look for a Darth Jar Jar theory video to react to.

    Droideka/droidekas.
Anakin's mother never had sex before conceiving him. The Force caused her body to generate the child. (Mind you, the Force isn't God; therefore, Anakin was never a "Jesus.")
Jar Jar Binks is in the film for A) the kids watching the movie, & B) comic relief. Detractors criticized the pod race for only existing to sell Star Wars video games...missing the point. The point was made repeatedly in the original trilogy what a great pilot Anakin was! The race demonstrates the skill is innate, not learned.
The Sand People shooting at the pod racers is akin to Native Americans ambushing settlers trespassing on *their* land! The pod race is on Sand People land,, without their consent!
The Chancellor is not manipulating anything in this film -- Senator Palpatine is!!!
Anakin really is too old to be trained. Padawans form their first emotionall bonds with the Jedi who raise & train them. They were *found as infants!!!* Therefore, no attachment to their biological parents or family! A Jedi's "family" are the Jedi.
Please stop calling alien people "beings"!!! If a lifeform has language, culture, customs, tools & makes their own tools, builds shelters, etc, THAT IS A PERSON!!! That person can look like an insect, a crustacean, a fish, a wolf, a whale, or any other species on Earth, but if they fit the criteria, THEY ARE PEOPLE!
By the way, Jar Jar is an atypical member of his species. He's a comedic idiot, clumsy, impulsive.
As a Trekkie, is Cdr Worf & the Klingons "beings" 👎🏻 or people 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
I'm an honorary Klingon, by the way. Have you heard of Star Trek fan clubs & conventions? I was a member of a Klingon fan club called KAG, for Klingon Assault Group, for a year or so.
If you went to such a convention, would you go as yourself or as a character? If so, a specific character (like Worf or Benjamin Sisko), or merely as a member of Starfleet? Which era uniform would you reproduce?

No Jar Jar was never meant to be a sith. That's just a meme.

In terms of the few things "needed" from Episode 1, for new time Star Wars viewers, its helpful to know where Anakin came from, its helpful to see Palpatine setting up his chess-board from the very beginning there, its helpful to see Anakin and Padme meeting for sure (though personally if I were to make this movie, Anakin would have been older, make the relationship that much more believable). I guess in a way its nice to see that Obi-wan had a Master of his own at this time but it doesn't really add much. It introduces you to this concept of "midichlorians", something that I still hate the idea of but oh well. And no, Jar-Jar Binks is not necessary. His character is really the comic relief, and a way to give Queen Amidala an army on the outside of the city, but that could have been handled in a much different way had the story not involve the Gungans or Jar-Jar at all.
I agree that there's not much to take away from this movie, and that usually people who know the story can definitely skip it on re-watches, the "machete" order. But for new viewers, unless someone specifically tells you the few key points like the few I mentioned above, many people would go from Episode 5 into Episode 2 very confused.

When palpatine tells anakin the story of darth plagueis (palpatine's master) he mentiones that plagueis figured out a way to "create life" using the force, and that palpatine learned everything from him before killing him in his sleep. So its kind of implied, although not confirmed, that palpatine created anakin. And yes he was born of a virgin.

Palpatine never created Anakin. Awakin was created by the Force as a result of Palagues and Palpatines bringing the Force.out of Balance.

      Palpatine to Anakin:
"Darth Plagueis... was a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians... to create... life."
And all we know about Anakin's conception is that he was created by midi-chlorians. Why, exactly, is never confirmed. You can interpret that however you like.

@Olivian Popescu in the Palagues novel Anakin was a response to Palagues trying to manipulate the midi chlorians. I know that is no longer cannon. If I spend some time I can find something from Lucas.

@Efstathio Kapetsonis That actually makes sense, he tried to manipulate the midichlorians but instead the force gave him a big middle finger. I haven't read any of the novels but I should have assumed the palpatine is always lying 😅

@Olivian Popescu the only thing Palpatine could manipulate was Anakin!
