    First of all, THANK YOU for still being active, replying to comments, and posting new content to ancient intercoms. My Nutone 3003 radio ON/OFF button (very left, square button) is sometimes getting stuck on the on (pressed in) state, and pressing it again does not always retract and turn it back off. Would I be able to pry that button off similarly to this video with a flat screwdriver? Also do you have any tips for me to restore the button to its normal state?

      Hi John: You're Welcome - The On / Off Switch on your IM3003 (really not so ancient) is unique compared to the other switches, because it's a "latching" switch. When you press it down (on) it stays down - when you press it again it pops back out (off). These switches do wear and sometimes they will not hold down or want to pop back out. General Cleaning with DeOxit D5 will solve the problems with most stubborn switches . You can spray the D5 onto the body of the switch (some times they have a little hole on the top of the switch body) and work the switch On and Off many times. It cleaning doesn't solve the issue, the switch will need to be replaced - Also, DO NOT pry the chrome button off - this will damage the internal part of the plunger - Chris

    Excellent video. I just spent a few hours today cleaning all 12 of my intercom remote speakers. They work like new again!

      Quick question .... How long does a typical deoxit cleaning last? Just repeat the treatment if controls get noisy again?

      Hi Jim: I would expect the cleaning to last for 2-3 years, The stations that get more use will likely last longer than the stations that never get used - seems weird that way - but that's how it usually goes - Chris

    My radio volume knob is making noise . On low volume the sound is very high and high volume the sound is low. Plus disturbing crackling sounds are there. Pnasonic RF 2400 transisistor Radio

      Hi Rajesh: It sounds like the Volume Control is broken and it would need to be replaced. Since the street price for your Radio is about $25.00 - it is not economically feasible to repair it, unless you can do it yourself - Chris

    on two of my remote units the end call does not turn the sound back on after you hit the inside/patio talk button. you have to wait about 17 seconds before the sound comes back on. These units have been untouched for the last 20 years and probably all 23. Will cleaming the end call button help this symptom?
    It appears my cleaning the garage unit seems to have stopped any volume control , I know it worked before as I tested it prior and it had a little noise at 1/3 level Also the privacy button stops the sound and the inside/patio talk as well as the door talk button do nothing and the sound keeps playing on this unit and the entire system.

      at Chris's suggestion I moved my bad units that had an end call /n/o sound returns issue on the inside/patio talk to the room where the unit works and they work there so it is not an issue with my room units. so a wire or main unit issue.

      Hi elkski Utah: It is most likely a wiring issue between the Remote Station and the IM4006 - Here's a link to our Video about troubleshooting wiring problems: ruclips.net/video/aYHthKFeNDg/видео.html

    Can you clean the switches on the master unit in the same way?

    • @northsideservicecompany3567
      @northsideservicecompany3567  4 года назад

      Hi jjhoganm: Yes - However Great Care must be taken when removing the chrome buttons from the switches - You Can Not pull the buttons off from the front - this can (and often will) pull the stem of the switch out, breaking the switch. The best thing to do is - spray just a little (really, just a little) onto the tops of the switch assembly. It will find its way into the switch - Chris

    Can the switches be cleaned without taking out the circuit board?
    In other words, remove the switch covers only? If so, would it be recommended to remove the faceplate from the unit first?

      Hi DD: The only reason that I removed the switch board was to give everyone a better look at how to clean the switches. You can certainly just remove the button caps and volume control knob to perform the cleaning. When I do this at customers homes, I don;t remove the speaker station form the wall, I just clean it in place - Chris
