The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition is not for everyone.

  • MotoMan drives the heavily updated for 2024 ‪@BMW‬ X5 M Competition. It may look a bit different in places and still has a similar output from its 4.4 Twin Turbo V8, however the ‪@BMWM‬ X5 M is a hybrid, but not in the traditional sense. There is an electric motor that adds 147 pounds of torque and along with other suspension & structural changes, MotoMan learns the ‪@BMWUSA‬ X5 M Competition for 2024 is a vastly more raw & capable performance car - even though it does not look like one.

    Hi BMW salesperson here! There won’t be a non comp version of the X5M. Most of our customers bought the Comp for style, “more horsepower” and bragging rights. There will be very few people who will want a more dialed down version and very few people who will actually put this car to the limits. If you want a more dialed down version you can have the X5 M60i.

    Honestly, the X5M (pre-refresh) rides quite well by M standards. The thing people complain about is ride in M cars but my answer is that they are M cars. I had a RS6 that had a great ride, probably one of the best, but didn't feel hugely different than a base A6 which is why I sold it. Personally I prefer the ride difference between M cars and those BMWs that are not M. The great things is that cars and life are about the subjectives of preference, taste and choice

    • @The_Stanman
      @The_Stanman Год назад +4

      Good suspensions offer a great ride-handling balance, something BMW and M used to excel at. It's a recent M trend to go overly stiff bc people think stiff = sporty. Frustratingly, BMW knows how to make a good suspension - the M2 and M5 CS models have a more compliant ride than Comps. Some compliance improves handling by maintaining composure and contact patch over rough roads.
      I agree that Audi RS6 is too soft. But a Cayenne Turbo GT is universally considered to handle and drive better than X5M (reflected in lap times) AND is more comfortable.
      Fortunately BMW does seem to be backing off the trend some - the M5 and X3M both got softer setups as part of their LCIs.

    • @42dunbar
      @42dunbar 11 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the Macan S has just about the perfect ride/handling balance for a sporty crossover or SUV. I find the ride in even an M340i too stiff for the street and the M2 Competition I drove had the worst ride of any stock street legal car I’ve ever driven. I can’t imagine what an M tuned BMW SUV rides like. The base X5 on steel springs rides so well too so I know BMW is capable of dialing in a suspension right.

    The removal of all of the buttons (down to the radar cruise distance controls on the wheel!!!)makes the 2023 seem like a great value. The sweet spot is the 2020-2023 M50i. If you need more power, you need something other than an SUV. With adaptive suspension it also rides like a Rolls. Having said that, front end restyle works

    He keeps mentioning a basic M. BMW did away with the basic M for the M60. The M60 has the exact same engine detuned. It’s more luxury mixed with power where the M comp is that rawness he explained in the video. The price difference also is reflected where it’s 30-40k less built out. He did a great review, but it’s clear he didn’t study the new lineup to understand that.

    BMW already dropped the non competition X5M. It's not coming back.
    Also ventilated rear seating is not available. Door panels do not include the M color stitching.
    M Compound brakes are standard on all full "M" vehicles. The extra charge is for the calipers in either black or red. Blue is standard.
    I've driven the 2024 X5M and could not tell the difference against the pre LCI X5M. Maybe, just maybe a tiny bit more torque noticed in the part throttle low speed range.
    But as always, a nice review anyway.

    Not the most pro-SUV guy in the world here but this looks like like a real machine indeed. Nowadays with electrification we get more and more power and that can only be a good thing but only if is well engineered. Having had the experience with some hybrid & phev cars, if is not well blended together can be quite a turn off for somebody like me. Still, BMW is almost at the top of the game in my opinion when it comes to engineering at this moment. And all of this takes me to an interesting thought.... i need a GT3. Go wonder.

    The Audi Q8 competes with the BMW X6, so it's not much of a comparison. I've driven a friend's Q8 so it's definitely a more comfortable Audi. Also the Q8RS should be more suitable for comparison. The BMW X5M competition is a sharper and harder tuned vehicle, where driving characteristics and practicality definitely dominate. I had a CLK55 years ago - had only 370 HP, but that V8 made the car, the experience, especially with the top open. It wasn’t as fast as this SL, but it sure felt like it - regardless, it was awesome at 30 MPH. Oh, and it had great 6 piston front and 4 piston rear Brembo’s that stopped it on a dime!😉

    FKKKK!!!!! Appealing to a broader group of people. PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS. KEEP THIS EXACTLY AS IS. This is the best car I’ve ever driven in my life and I’m spoiled I’ve had them all. If someone doesn’t “GET” or understand this car. THEN THEY DONT BELONG WITH
    BMW. Send the idiots down the road to mercedes or porche. FYI there’s a reason Tom Cruise chose BMW for the last Mission Impossible. There’s also a clip on RUclips floating around showing his disappointment when visiting a Mercedes race track. He looked like he was slowly painfully dyeing inside.

    This car looks marvelous in this urban green and the black panels. Absolutely brilliant vehicle. Great video yet again b@Motomantv.

    These things are 160k up here in Canada..... as an X5M owner, I'd never buy this thing at these prices.

    I prefer either pure ice or pure electric. Why? lighter and sportier

    $5000 for a clear coat option of what the Canadian Army paints their trucks, no thank you, also you are going to forever explain to everyone for the length of the lease why you chose that colour. The only greens that are somewhat worthy are BRG or Grabber Green, to me green is slightly better than brown.
