Chevy Chase actually broke his pinky finger while punching Santa Claus. Out of the pain and frustration from that, he resorts to kicking and clubbing the decorations after that. Have you seen It's a Wonderful Life? I think the bit about the newel post on the stairway was inspired by the same issue in that movie. A minor thing in both movies. Clark's solution of just chainsawing the thing off still tickles me. But my favorite moment is the zoom-in on Clark's dad's face as he yells "SQUIRREL!!" 🤣🤣

Every Christmas season I watch every new version of A Christmas Carol I can find. If I can't find a new version then I watch the numerous versions I have on dvd. I used to record every version I found on VHS and then transferred them to dvd when I got a combo VHS/DVD recorder. I could put a recorded vhs tape in one side and a blank DVD in the other and it would record from vhs to the dvd. Ellen's parents are awful. They're so negative. Did the video freeze at the end but not the sound for everyone else?
