I think just about the only relationship where they do communicate well is Declan and Jordan

I’m glad that y’all agree that Niall having the first memory to be forgotten be Declan. When I read that I was like what a jerk. I was so shocked that Declan understood his side. I get that his life was complicated but I was still mad at that choice. I became even more mad when Declan wasn’t mad. I took most of that story as understanding more of his situation and how it was complicated but I still didn’t consider him to be redeemed in my book

Yeah 100% agree, Declan really would have needed to be mad at Niall for so many reasons, including the ones we understood and got information about in this book. Instead of immediately forgiving just because he understood Niall had loved him.

@@obviouslyqueer Exactly I can understand Declan coming more to peace with the actions that were made bc he understood more of the situation. He should’ve still been mad to an extent with that. It didn’t make sense to he that he would completely forgive him. I get not being too focused on that and yo try to move on. I feel like he should’ve been more mad that the first thing his dad wanted to forget was his only biological child that wasn’t a dream or forest creature

wow i found myself smiling and nodding throughout this whole video because you echoed so many of my own thoughts about the book and the character arcs. i did not have too high hopes because i knew maggie was just completely done with this world (and i don’t really blame her) so i was willing to be forgiving but yeah.. so many things could have been better but ultimately i’m happy with the story and i’m glad it has an ending and i hope she can move on to different projects that make her more happy

Thank you so much for the comment! Always love when people agreeee with me!
I tried not to set my expectations to high, but when reading it I understood that I did have... maybe not high but specific expectations. But like you said, overall I'm happy with the trilogy and I mean getting a trilogy at all after the Raven Cycle was such a gift. I know Maggie's next novel is her first adult novel and I'm so excited!

I’ve been a silent viewer of your videos since getting into TRC earlier this year but I had to comment on this one because it felt sooo nice. It was like I was sitting around with friends, discussing my favorite book series. No one I know offline has read it and while I absolutely love my little section of tumblr mutuals who I can connect with, there’s something that hits different about watching two friends speak aloud and have a whole 45 minute discussion about things.
The part about Mor and The New Fenian moving into the Barns made me laugh so hard because YES THAT SHIT WAS SO CRAZY what was maggie thinking? I was ranting to my mom (who indulges my ramblings despite not knowing all the ins and outs of the series) about how Mor - a sociopath - was given more of a redemption arc than Kavinsky, a queer, abused teenager. Wild.
I agree so much with the criticisms you presented here. The way I look at this series is what MIGHT happen in the future. It changes day by day whether I accept it as canon or not, lol. Maggie’s writing was great as always like you said, but there were just a lot of missed opportunities. The epilogue felt so… Wattpad fanfiction-esque.
I also loved the appreciation you both had for the pynch breakups. I think I’m in the minority that think pynch shouldn’t have been endgame - I LOVE the pairing, I love their little summer at the Barns before Adam leaves for college, I just think it would have made so much sense for their characters and narratively for things to have properly ended after that.
Also to end off this looong rambling comment, I knew Stief had burned her TRC journals (rip:/ ) but i had never seen the video of her destroying a copy of Greywaren… her relationship with the series is so interesting and I simultaneously love being in the dark to preserve my own feelings while also wanting to know why, exactly, she is so ready to move on from a series that so many of us could continue to live in for years and years.
Thank you both for these videos! I appreciate any and all people who think so critically about the series and analyze it this much. I have a feeling I’ll be returning to this video loads whenever I need a little trc friend pick me up.

Ah! This comment brought me so much joy! Thank you a lot, really. From both me and Jojjo.
First things first! Who are you on Tumblr? If you wanna say ofc, otherwise you can stay a silent observer 🙏
Other things I have to mention:
It DID feel like a Wattpad fanfiction hahaha well put.
And I appreciate so much you vocally are a pynch breakup truther. I also would've been supportive if that would have been the end. Young Adult lack in emotional, important relationships that end. That you meet your life partner at age 17 and succeed in growing together and in a healthy way is ... extremely rare in reality but the standard in YA. I would have loved to see Maggie portray that and I think she would have done it well with pynch. It would have been a natural ending more in touch with "realism". But I think the living separate lives is a good middle ground between that ya-fantasy romance and realism.
Again, thank you so much for your support and encouragement!
