    I played Lufia: The Legend Returns on the 3DS Virtual Console. I was in the mood for an old-school JRPG at the time - saw this, gave it a try and it ended up being my 2nd most played game on the 3DS. Solid and underrated GBC game. 👍

    • @aleckermit
      @aleckermit 2 месяца назад +2

      Same with me until recently. I had gone on an NES kick for a while and it left me feeling a little disappointed honestly with how a few of the games really clicked with me. Then I started exploring the Game Boy Color Library and it's crazy how much more I enjoy these 8-bit games on average period. The NES was kind of in this awkward phase of gaming where we were still moving away from arcade play style so many of the games just don't hold up well because they're trying to focus on high score or intense difficulty where is by the time the Game Boy Color came out gaming had modernized.

      Cannon fodder is very compromised from the OG and not top 20 material.

    • @caocaokungfu
      @caocaokungfu 2 месяца назад

      @@FoxbatStargazer That's your opinion, but here are my rebuttals:
      1. Despite the opening song having been brutally butchered by the programmer (the raw version of the music exists within the ROM), the opening is the smoothest FMV you'll EVER see on GBC or even on GBA
      2. The AI is smarter, and will more actively try to ambush and hide (blending with the background), which ramps up the challenge.
      3. Enemy radar in the pause screen. Helps hunt "THAT ONE ENEMY that keeps hiding".
      4. The controls were well adjusted for the GBC, moving and shooting feels nice. Sure, nothing beats playing with a mouse on the SNES, Genesis, Amiga, or PC, but they did well with what they had.

    The CGB period was pretty short, but we got some nice games during that time. Bionic Commando - Elite Forces, Bomberman Max, Donald Duck - Quack Attack, Grandia - Parallel Trippers, Wario Land 3, Rayman 2, Ganbare Goemon - Seikuushi Dynamites Arawaru, Gold and Glory, Metamode, Tomb Raider, SMT - Devil Children Shiro, Warlocked...
    Personally, I have an easier time finding pleasant audiovisuals on the GBC than the GBA.

    Hi there. I'm sorry for not seeing this earlier. I'm one of those guys who asked why MGS wasn't on that GB best games videos. Haha. I just saw a notification of your most recent video and came running to check if you posted the GBC exclusive video.
    It's so good to see the effort you put in these videos and I'm loving to learn about games I haven't paied attention before and your explanations really go a long way. I'll be checking them out for sure.
    Were it not for MGS, another title I'd have mentioned is Resident Evil Gaiden. What a truly remarkable game. It's a genre of its own. You don't even need to like RE games to like this. It's so engaging and unique. Just like MGS. You don't need to like MGS gamest to apreciate it on GBC. And a side note, here in Brazil, most collectors hate RE Gaiden. They considere it lame, boring and whatnot and they blame steep price on the low count of copies ever made. I on the other hand think the price is fair. It's one hell of a game IMO. I had a copy. It felt gooooood to hold it in my hands. I sold them all eventually because it was a lot of capital just sitting still and I decided to liquidate it and buy an Everdrive X7. Don't hate me. Haha.

    I recently played through all of the mainline Metal Gear games in story order, rather than release order. Rather than doing that, I would recommend playing them in release order starting with Metal Gear Solid: Integral on PSX. It's an absolute classic for a reason and still one of the greatest games of all time.
    IMO the original Metal Gear for MSX/NES doesn't hold up that well. Metal Gear 2 for MSX is actually pretty good, but only worth playing if you're highly invested in the series already.

    About Metal Gear Solid: I am old school and my opinions might not be in line with the majority but I recommend to have a look at Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake(MSX or a port) first and then play Metal Gear Solid(PSX). MGS alone is an impressive game that holds up well but when you have the context and see where it comes from and how it developed, it is twice as fascinating! MGS2 is inferior to MGS in my opinion. They added more features to the moveset but it also gets much more complicated. Bosses and dialogues are not as memorable as before. I loved the beginning on the ship but disliked the later oil rig. MGS3 is pretty cool but quite long and also has confusing controls, at least the Xbox compilation, so I dropped it. Never played 4 but 5 is a title I can highly recommend

    The games from the list... are very good, but... my definition for the word "exclusive", it's a lot different...
    As you said, Denki Block is on GBA too... plus there is another version for PSP... so, it is not exclusive for the GBC, you can find it for other systems.
    Crystalis, is more or less the same NES game.
    And you said too, that the Donkey Kong Country is a port of the SNES game, so, you have it on GBC, GBA and SNES...
    Dragon Quest/Warrior III... well... NES, GBC ... it could be improved, but it is basically the same game... and even if it was in japanese (so, we, or at least me, could not play it), it was ported and improved to the SNES too (different post game from the GBC port)... anyway, there are fan translatiosn to various languages... and... I'm waiting for the new HD 2D remake... but, well, it was not exclusive either.
    Shante was "ported" to Switch, Playstation 4/5... so... (even than more than a port, it seems to be emulated with a "nice frontend" over it).
    All of them are really really good, but... they are not "exclusive" games for the GBC (exclusive, is when you have to play it on a GBC, or emulate them)
    The other ones, are in fact exclusive, at least, as far as I know.
    Regards, an keep doing nice videos.

      Exclusive, as in not compatible with the original Game Boy, as I mentioned in the intro. Not exclusive to the console. This was a follow on from my last episode which was Game Boy Colour games that were cross compatible with the original DMG (black carts). Didn't know how else to word it..
