i like how the gameplay is shown whilst keeping you and box art in there too.the effort is appreciated :)
These videos always cost me money. Sigh.
Not bad you only cost me $28.36 this time. Game & Watch and Solar Striker.
Gives me something to select on my everdrive.
The games are getting really expensive all of a sudden
@@Thebossstage1 yeah, retro gaming is the new in thing, in part because of channels like this.
Costs nothing if you’re okay with non physical
Wario Blast, Yoshi's Cookie, Donkey Kong 94, Mega Man 4 (the music is pure gold), Rolan's Curse 2 and The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2
Recently acquired an Analogue Pocket myself so I'm reliving my childhood/GB collection with backlight and no screen blur 😅 Gargoyle's Quest was my favourite game back when I was a kid - I did manage to finish it (password saves) but the later levels get pretty brutal. Anyway, love your channel as a helpful guide with getting back into GB/GBC. Thank you :)
Game Boy Gallery in Europe was the first release. Game & Watch Gallery is the sequel (it was even called Game Boy Gallery 2 in Australia).
Think of it like Demon Souls transitioning to Dark Souls, or Soul Blade becoming Soul Calibur.
The mega man v color hack (dx) is just so good...game boy color hacks in recent years have been just brilliant
Only recently found your channel and I love it dude, I remember renting out gargoyles quest and I was devasted when it was time to return it
Great list! I'm glad you listed some more obscure gems like Bubble Ghost and Mole Mania! Ducktales and the Mega Man GameBoy games (except maybe 2) were amazing conversions of the NES games!
The GameBoy actually had a solid library of games. I also love Super Mario Land 2, Contra Operation C, the Adventure Island games, Kirby's Block Ball, Darkwing Duck, the Bonk games, and Link's Awakening.
Gargoyles Quest was one of my favourite gb games
When i got my gameboy i got wave race and metroid 2. Love them both.
Just last night i found your video about best gameboy games from around 4 years ago, and this morning the one you did about 8 or 10 months ago; and now I i see this one just got uploaded?? An absolutely random sequence of events that has culminated in me finding a new channel to subscribe to.
Loved the video!!! Have you ever played Daedalian Opus? It is a fun little puzzle game on the GameBoy. I think you'd enjoy it! Heiankyo Alien as well.
Loved Final Fantasy Legend II!
Parodius! I'm really happy to see that come up. It's such a fun and quirky shooter, although I always get stomped on by the dancing lady who walks like a crab...
Also, great video and great selection. I could watch your videos about Gameboy games all day. Can't wait for a one about Japan exclusives!
Really good content, man. You add a lot of value :)
I love that you mentioned Bubble Ghost, people rarely mention that and I loved it as a kid, I had it on one of those dodgy 150 in one game carts and I adored it
The gameboy guru back at it! 🙏🙌
I will accept the title of “Game Boy Guru!”
Gargoyles quest and Metroid II are classics. But my favorite handheld is the GBA!
Some good choices there and a few Ive not heard of which is cool
I'm definitely playing some Baloon Kid today now. Cheers!
A great list! I got the four FF games as a kid and the one I still need to beat is Legends 2 so I will do that one day!
Batman is amazingly fun. Metroid 2 is perfect just grab a pencil amd paper and start mapping. that's how I always played it, huge fun to do that like back in the day. Solar Striker rules as well. Super Mario land 2 is one of the best and I also love operation C, the contra game plays perfectly like the nes. Great video!
I might actually do that map drawing to get through Metroid 2 one day! Sounds fun!
Happy that RUclips suggested this to me. Love retro content and you got a sub from a fellow content creator!
From one “break” to another, happy creating! 😁 thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy my other videos too :)
@@RetroBreak for sure man!
I have always been a gamer but now im in my 40s , i even love retro gaming more, GBA AND GBC are my favorite, they have my favorite pixel art style and chiptune at its finest
Warioland 1 is my most played game as a kid, I would play it over and over again trying to collect as many coins as possible ,trying to build that glorious castle,it was so fun.
Actually about a year ago I replayed a lot of games in your list ,like kid Dracula ,kid ikarus and gargoyles.
I grew up with Wario Land 2, so it was always weird going back tot he first one and seeing it's more like Mario Land 2 with the world map and levels etc, still awesome though! Always love the Wario games!
Gargoyle's Quest is my favorites! Had that one as a kid, one of the few I actually beat. But it took me years I think :D
But Batman is my absolute favorite and my first (not including Tetris, which came with the GB). I know a lot of people don't like the jump but I think it's an excellent implementation
At first I was like “How could you not unconditionally LOVE Gargoyles Quest” and then realised, oh yeah I’ve only played it on emulator with save states. I’ll have to play it on cart and see how different the experience is
Just need to stock up on lives & get the Essence of the Soulstream (IIRC) that lets you heal mid level.
Pretty sweet list. Some usual suspects but some unique ones😃
I picked up F1 Race recently. I had it as a kid but barely played it because it was too hard. Decades later, I still find it hard.
I'm edging towards building a collection for the Gameboy with videos like this. I had very few games growing up so there's a lot I don't know about.
DeadHeat Scamble, the biggest hidden gem for the Gameboy
Totally agree. This is a great 20 of must haves as I also have nearly all of these with a relatively small collection.
But I’m not sure I have ever seen Solar Striker… How? It does look simple and fun, and that’s the pure essence of GameBoy.
Mole Mania, Gargoyle’s Quest, FF Legend II, Batman 👍🏻👍🏻
my favorite growing up was Lock 'n Chase
Solar Striker is just the right amount of simplicity and difficulty. Nintendo said we need a solid little shmup for our new handheld system and Gunpei Yokoi’s team was like; Say no more 🪄 Keep the OG Gameboy videos coming. They’re my favorites.
I love that Batman game. Nothing says Batman like running around shooting robots and gangsters with a gun
I wonder if it was actually designed as a different game, and they got the Batman IP and changes some sprites towards the end of development? It’s pretty funny
@@RetroBreak haha true.
A great list of games here on this list.
If you enjoy Tetris Attack, check out the home brew game, Fydo’s Magic Tiles, impressively cranked into 32kb.
I played plenty of Bubble Ghost back in my Atari ST days using the mouse, so was interesting to see them convert it to GameBoy using the DPad.
It's on my Everdrive! Been meaning to check it out for a while! Thanks for the reminder :D And I would love to try and Atari version of Bubble Ghost one day!
Any news of D*fused? Been far too long since the last update. Quarter 2 of 2023 you said it would be released. Not far off quarter 2 in 2024. ☹️
@@pjmlfc05 Hi, DFuzed is still being worked on, unfortunately things came to a crawl, when my father was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer (Oct 2021) and then passed away (August 2022). Grief can really mess you up, creatively and in many other ways. On top of the stresses of running out of money, and just trying to survive. Many apologies for not having the game finished by now. I appreciate and thank you for your patience, and I hope I can get the game done sooner than later for you all, myself, and my dead Dad.
@Asobitech thank you for your quick response. I am sorry for the loss of your Father. What I would just say is regardless of the progress of the game please try to do an update every so often. I've had bad experiences where I lost money on a pre-order. Sorry as there is a place for this but I guess it's an reaction when you don't hear anything and get worried that you have lost your money.
Batman with a Gun on the Game Boy! That game rocks I think they were not sure how far they could push the GB & just made Batman shoot a gun! But it is very fun! Don't feel bad about getting far in Gargoyles Quest as I am the same way too! I quote Toy Story all the time when I play that game: Falling with Style! Or in my case, Failing with Style! Ha-Ha! Fun story my 3DS on a flight died, so I pulled out my GB & played Tetris Attack & was able to play exactly one game just as the plane landed it was like perfect timing! Just made that trip extra special!
I played one of the FF Legends games on my OG GameBoy but I don’t remember which one it is, I remember it taking a while to get into but then I got really into it.
FFL3 is great and I highly recommend it (I got FFL 2 and 3 in real time in 91 and 93). It's a more traditional JRPG, with XP and levels, but it still includes monster meat shenanigans, and adds robot parts to the mix.
I beat Gargoyle's Quest annually. I beat it a ton of times on original Gameboy (with no backlight, sitting under a lamp), so I have it absolutely down. It is challenging, but it's not as hard as Super Ghouls n Ghosts; hardest game I've ever beaten.
I've also beaten Metroid 2 3x, but never got the best ending. The 3rd time I was 13 minutes over the 4 hour mark, so had to take the 2nd best ending again. After that I was done!
I had Parodius on a Konami GB Collection black-coloured cartridge i think it was, with Frogger and Quarth maybe
A game that I owned (and still own) that I played alot is Dragon Warrior Monsters.
Back then when Pokemon was new I didnt like them at all compared to DWM, they seemed so simple. :p
DWM still holds up to day in my opinion. A great game!
Its still a great system, the constraints made the developers more creative and that made the gameplay better
Love solar striker....there is a more rare shmup (gun Zas) that is just unbelievably good though
Actually the 5 in 1 is the first game that came out in this series, only in Europe. The other game is actually the second one but since we never got the first one in the US, they called the first one. It was than ported to Europe.
For the vertical shooter, there another one that is Japan only called ZAS. It's actually a technical marvel in terms of graphics because of the multiple layered scrolling background which is normally not possible on the gameboy.
I really want to get ZAS but it’s crazy expensive… it looks awesome and I love the graphical tricks that can only really be seen on original hardware
Have you played amazing tater? Really fun puzzle game
One GB game I never hear anyone talking about that was a big part of my entry into gaming was Bionic Commando... does that ever make anyone's favourites lists?
Parodius was also released in Europa. Source: I live in Europe and owned this game as a kid.
R-type was my first game ever and its the best
Hi bro!!! If you like Tetris Attack you will love Pokemon Puzzle Challenge on gbc
I do! and the N64 version too! :D
Metroid 2 was my favourite game on game boy.
So glad to see Bubble Ghost on there! I made a video about it on my channel I love it so much! I'm lazy about making videos though, so I only made like 5 before I got too lazy to make more.
Maybe one day!
EDIT: I played the DOS port on my Tandy 1000 and... it was pretty rough. I wasn't able to do it lol.
The definitive version of Bubble Ghost is the Apple iigs. Superior graphics and sound
haha, I also had Wave Race as a kid, but I totally hated it 😂 Anyway, Cave Noire might be an interesting game for you if you're looking into Japanese games. I've been hearing good things about it lately :)
Exelente video saludos a todos desde San José del Cabo Baja California Sur México 🇲🇽😁
how's the weather
The internet really is amazing, I could never have imagined that someone from Mexico would know who I was or enjoy what I make! Thanks for watching! :D Cheers from the UK!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue is a fantastic GameBoy game, and worth checking out even if you're not a TMNT fan. It's just a solid action/platformer, almost Metroidvania.
Was gonna mention this, the jp version has a more detailed map.
i love solar striker
Difference with final fantasy legends 3, is that it has a 3 on the end
Excellent video! Need to get on my soapbox about the “black cartridge” games though. These absolutely should be considered simultaneously gb and GBC games…because they are! So games like Pokemon Silver/Gold should appear on best-of lists for both the OG gameboy and the gameboy color.
This being said, some games I personally have in my top 20 (of the 200-odd I’ve played) that are not listed here:
Donkey Kong Land
Monster Max
Mole Mania
Ninja Taro
James Bond 007
ZAS (Japan-exclusive shooter)
Zelda obv
Pokémon Gen 1&2
Pokémon TCG
Donkey Kong 94
Final Fantasy Adventure
Kirby’s Dream Land 2
Wario Land 2
I’m saving all the black cart games for a separate set of “color compatible” videos, so they will have their time in the spotlight soon don’t worry! :D
Whoops you most definitely DID showcase Mole Mania. Apologies for this error!
@@acantilado no worries! Check out my other game boy video too as I covered a bunch more that you listed in that one!
For sure!
Kirby's Dream Land Two is the best video game 🙌 😋💮
Have you seen the Tetris movie?. There´s a game on the ds like the bubble ghost and its a cool game.
The Apple TV movie? Yeah I watched it, was cool! And the DS game you’re think of is Soul Bubbles, it’s great!
people either love or hate the first batman gb game 🤣 its one of my favs
If I see any I like or have already I'll get em for my Gameboy player 😂
Space fever is vertical
But where are Super Mario Land 2, Final Fantasy Adventure and Donkey Kong 94?
In the previous video I mentioned at the end
Ah? Sorry.
No donkey kong land?
Batman doesn't use guns 6:22
Jogo todos no emulador
i used emulator and cheats also i dont completely agree with your list theres a few game i would try but most im not interested
in
Tetris Attack > Tetris
I’m turok fan
Use time stamps plz
Your footage for gameboy gallery is not even from the right game. Thats footage from game and watch gallery.
bill and ted was good
also the GB version of Crash Dummies is alright, better than than the console versions I reckon
In my actual point of view, if it's not fun and enjoyable, it's not a good game. And i didn't.
Very disappointing Gargoyle's Quest, being practically in all top 10s i see... 🤷🏽♂️
Thx for the vídeo ☺️👍🏽
