My optimal infield would include characters like Noki or The Magikoopas or the Kritters or Petey Piranha, King Boo only works in the infield same with the Magikoopas and Kritters, but the Outfield would be characters like Yoshi, the Bros, or Bowser Jr. and of course Birdo.
My optimal infield would be fire bro on 3rd base, with Hammer Bro on 2nd base, Petey on the bottom left spot, Luigi as catcher, DK as pitcher, and Funky Kong at first base! My optimal outfield would be King K Rool in the center, Red Kritter on the left, and Kritter on the right!
Honorable mentions to diddy kong and dixie kong. Both are really speedy and can snag home runs without the use of a buddy jump. But also have chemistry with each other and tiny kong, making an awesome back field trio. And to tiny kong as well. For having a good enough speed stat. But also able to stop a home run and throwing the ball with pretty solid speed.
Yeah, I totally agree that Birdo is amazing in the outfield! Suction Catch is just incredible and has helped me many times! Birdo's chemistry seems overall good but all over the place. I mean, Birdo having good chemistry with Yoshi and Shy Guy makes sense. I just wonder why she has good chemistry with Daisy, but not Peach (Super Mario 2 logic?) And she randomly has bad chemistry with Wario, Waluigi, Tiny Kong and Blooper? You'd think she would have bad chemistry with like Mario, Luigi or Toad. It just seems pretty random like some of the chemistry in the game.
I think shy guy deserves a spot on the list at 9 or 10. Their dive is slightly bigger than Daisy and their birdo chemistry makes them decent outfielders
I think Yoshi > Birdo > Yoshi is a pretty crap outfield for a number of reasons. Three extended dives means no regular dive (Daisy Star Swing is basically guaranteed to land), you're forced to try and find two more link-outs for Yoshi who has a notoriously weak chem tree, and unless you took regular Yoshi, all three characters have pretty bad bats. I'd much prefer something like Birdo > Yoshi > Mii or even Birdo > Yoshi > Mario just for the better chemistry, but truth be told I don't really like Birdo in OF. I'm guessing we're pretending Miis don't exist, but they deserve at least an honourable mention. You can plug and play them in any position and they're guaranteed to have a chem throw with whoever you need. You get Anti-Peach utility and their speed stat is above average. Certainly better than Noki, who isn't even that fast with Ball Dash all things considered.

I usually go with a monty mole and shy guys in the outfield, they just have something the others dont for me
I feel like Bowser is one of the best fielders purely because of how fast he can throw the ball and his good chemistry.
I'd consider him the best first basemen just purely on his chemistry with the bros

Yoshi is definitely a spectacular outfielder, as well as Birdo. Heck, even Mario is good even without a super dive.
